Is it normal for people to steal project/idea in the corporate world?

Currently an intern at a BPO company, and we are developing a AI agent, our supervisor tod us to not spill any info about the project itself because People would steal it and build it themselves, he called it "office politics" is this normal?

Thoughts on running Hermes on a VPS?
