Who here didn’t like Pretty Girls by Karin Slaughter by liked other books of hers?

I know this book is mentioned a lot, and I know it’s one of those books where you either love it or hate it. It was a DNF for me. I’ve also heard that it’s her most graphic book. For me, those parts dragged and I got bored. There were a few other parts that I felt that way about.

I’m wondering if maybe I just chose the wrong book? Curious on how many here who didn’t like that one liked others of hers.

Those who used to think 40 hours wasn’t excessive, when did your mindset change?

Did anything specific cause it to change?

As someone who used to think 40 hours wasn’t a big deal, I think that changed in the last few years. I think it happened over time, as I realized it doesn’t leave us with that much time to enjoy our lives.

My Neb glaring at at me impatiently as I got ready for work

Every morning before I leave, we have playtime. Apparently I wasn’t moving fast enough, because he was glaring at me as if I had already decided I wouldn’t have time lol

Anyone else here feel stuck with a job?

I have decent perks with my job, but I’ve been unhappy for quite some time. However, I hear the job market sucks and when I look I don’t see as many jobs for what I’m looking for. Wondering if anyone else can relate. I’ve been considering quitting without a backup (yes, I have the means), but the way the job market is looking, combined with the good things about my job, is making me nervous. At this point, I have far more bad days than good days at my job though.

Anyone else have a Neb who loves something but doesn’t use it as intended?

My Neb loves his cat scratcher camper, but never scratches it or anything. He only ever sits on top of it, but he LOVES it lol. He’s on it all the time. He has other scratchers he uses, but never this one.

Who here has read the Zodiac Academy series?

I’ve heard mixed things on it and I’m considering giving it a try. What did you like about it? If you didn’t like it, why?

Do you guys feel like Mississippi is underrated?

I’ve only been to Oxford so far, so I know I haven’t seen much of it. I’ve only seen a tiny portion, but I enjoyed it. I’ve looked into other areas, and I feel like the state might be slept on a bit. Obviously the food is great too! I’m sure it all depends on where you go, just like any other state, but it seems like there are some pretty cool areas. Do you guys have any favorite cities or towns in Mississippi?

Who else here has a voice that doesn’t always carry?

And what do you do? Do you keep trying to get the other person’s attention or is there a point where you give up? Not asking for advice or anything, just curious.

Personally, if it’s not important and I try one more time and speak up but they still don’t hear me, I give up. Maybe I’m not speaking up as much as I think I am when this happens lol. This doesn’t happen to me as often as it used to though.

I don’t understand how they can be so impatient about being physical

Unless you’ve known the person for awhile, you still barely know each other 3 dates in. If people want to move at a quicker pace, whatever. But they aren’t entitled to the other person moving at a pace they aren’t comfortable with.

I had to distance myself from my mom recently. Last year I told her I’m no longer religious because I was tired of pretending. Recently I’ve gone through a bit of a hard time, and she texted me “maybe it’s time you give God another chance”.

She’s also subtly brought up religion in other ways. For example, this year I got into reading and she mentioned a book club the church has. I asked if she was thinking of joining and she said no. So I’m thinking she was trying to use that to push it on me.

Because of this, I’ve stopped talking to her for a bit. Has anyone else dealt with something similar? I’m feeling very frustrated and down about it. My mom and I have always been close, but this has put a major strain on our relationship.

I’m tired of working a job that’s in office every day, but I don’t know where to start if I were to look externally. There aren’t a whole lot of remote positions available where I work. What do you do for work?

Do you give them a little buffer? Do you follow up?

For me, I’ll follow up but it can be a bit frustrating if you don’t hear back when you say you’ll hear back. What timeline do you *really* expect when you’re told something like this?
