How are you all dealing with the “it’s selfish to bring a child into this world” line of thinking?

A reel popped up in my feed the other day, my cousin has liked a reel that was a woman saying “I love my babies so much that I chose not to bring them into this garbage world” or something along those lines. These sorts of things always hit me hard. I get it. And my husband and I spent a long time going back and forth about having a child before we decided to go for it. But every time I see an argument like this it sends me spiraling because the world is just so fucked up, and we have a small family. I cry thinking about what world my son might be dealing with, potentially by himself. Anyone else struggle with this? :(

Toddler parents, how are you staying consistent?!

My son is 2.5 and very busy, does not sit still for a minute. I love him and this time period especially is super fun and hilarious and cute. He’s potty trained and speaks in full sentences now so it feels like we have a whole kid these days. With all that said I feel like I have a few good days out of the month where I can balance taking care of myself, feel like a super mom and feel very harmonious with my husband. The rest of the time I just feel exhausted and like I’m just surviving and on autopilot. I’d like to do better but some days feel like wading through mud.

The past 2 weeks I got into a fairly good workout routine and was on good track with healthy eating, then I had a few “terrible two” type days with my little one and a long day at work, and it derailed all the progress I had made.

I don’t know what the point of this post is, just experiencing all the ebbs and flows of parenthood and trying to hold on. Anyone have answers to this?

One of our first pictures together. This year marks 13 years together and we still feel the same way about each other 💕

Newly potty trained 2.4 year old - dry overnight?

My son is 2.4 years old and we are day 5 of potty training. He has taken to it very well and would call him potty trained at this point. We are doing pull ups for nap and bedtime, and I noticed for both his nap yesterday and after sleep last night he has been dry. I got him on the potty right away and he had a big pee. I am thrilled with that but also a little concerned? Is this normal?

Starting potty training- anyone just go straight to undies?

My 2.5 year old son is definitely ready, he’s been telling us when he poops and we’ve been slowly exposing him to the potty for a few months now. In the past few weeks he’s been peeing and pooping on the potty. Now I have the next 5 days off so we decided to fully transition. I was going to go the pants less method but honestly we have a big old house from 1914 and despite how tidy we keep it, it always feels like it can be cleaned more. I’ve been a bit paranoid about him being nude and infection risk, so we are opting to just try going right to underwear. It’s day 2 and he’s had 4 accidents on each day so far. Is that fairly normal? Are the underwear hindering his progress? Any success stories with just a transition to underwear?

Considering joining the GLP-1 train but I’m feeling conflicted

Hi all, 39 yr old working mom of a 2.5 year old boy that is very busy. I work 30 hrs/week as a nurse and have not yet bounced back yet the way I thought I could. I have an autoimmune disease and I feel I alternate regularly between being exhausted to completely burnt out to the small bursts of energy I have getting the regular chores done. I am about 10 lbs up from my initial postpartum lowest weight, and 20-25lbs over my baseline prior to pregnancy. I try to work out and then I hit a wall with work, or we have a night of wakeups that throws me off. I feel bloated and often look toward emotional eating at work because the job is stressful. On good days I aim for 10-15k steps or workouts out home. We love hikes and I enjoy eating healthy foods. I just feel like the weight won’t budge and I am considering a glp, but am fairly wary of the whole craze generally, I’m looking for insights from others who are on them or just opinions/resources generally for me to consider. I ran it by my rheumatologist who I trust very much and she really had nothing negative to say, despite there being concerns about muscle wasting/GI issues etc. which are my biggest concerns. This was a bit of a ramble but I appreciate the input!

So very overwhelmed by my sons pickiness

I’ve posted in here semi-regularly. My son is 2.3 years old and has been picky since a year. He eats about 20-25 foods with most of them being carbs, but we went on vacation recently and have since experienced a regression. We also suspect he may be getting some molars, but in any case, his main foods right now are pb&j, pancakes, waffles, yogurt, chicken nuggets, pouches and bananas. He used to eat some other fruit but that’s totally gone out the window. I’ve tried many different approaches: no pressure, one safe food, 2 safe foods etc.

Tonight we grilled- we made grilled chicken, zucchini, corn and potatoes. He asked for corn. I offered all of the above and a pouch and he only ate the pouch. He then started to cry when we began to talk about eating other foods or trying the corn he had previously said he wanted to try and then excused himself from the kitchen - “I’m all done I want to go play” he then had a full on MELTDOWN when we tried to get him to sit with us so we could finish eating, my husband and I ended up taking turns in the other room with him so we could eat.

I am just so overwhelmed with the stress he feels around food and I feel like I never know what to do. Does anyone have a similar experience?

Tired moms, how are you putting together creative food options for your picky toddlers?

My 2.5 year old son will only eat about 25 things, with most of those things being variations of carbs. I hate to admit it but I go through bouts of laziness where the only things I offer along with his safe foods are fruits or frozen veggies he won’t eat. Tonight for instance we made kale pasta, so I offered some of that alongside green grapes (will only eat red, sometimes) and box Mac & cheese. I feel like I’m failing with food so often, but it feels like whether or not I make an effort makes no difference, he still doesn’t really budge outside of his routine foods. When he was younger I felt more inspired to do a lot of the baby led weaning broccoli bites, muffins etc. I am having fun and he’s incredible but I am so exhausted all the time and hate wasting my energy and food. How are you guys being creative with your offerings?

Visiting another country from the US, it’s insane how differently families are treated

Didn’t quite know where to post this but wanted to share my experience.

My husband and I are visiting Montreal with our 2 year old from New England. We have only been here 2 days, but I’ve already had so many amazing experiences with locals that have been very kind and inclusive to our son. Just today ~ 3 very unique interactions with shop owners that acknowledged my son as a person and not an annoyance, both times we rode the train, people got up for us so we could sit, and various courteous gestures by random people on the street because we have our son with us. I can honestly say I’ve never experienced this in the US. It feels so much more community oriented here that it makes me simultaneously sad and want to move out of this dumb country.

Grouper Show in Kingston, NY

I know this isn’t very likely, but any leads on getting tickets to the Grouper show at the Old Dutch Church? It’s frankly one of my dreams to see her live and I don’t get out much, was really looking forward to the opportunity to see her but work and life got in the way of me tracking when tickets would be released. I am so bummed. Thanks!

2.3 year old, no end in sight to the pickiness

My little guy has been picky since 12 months. At this point I thought he’d maybe start being more receptive to actual meals but it’s still the same rotation of things despite us regularly exposing him to other options. I just feel defeated at times and like I’m a bad mom, especially on the nights when lm spent and don’t actually put in much effort.

Foods he’ll eat reliably: yogurt, banana, strawberries, pancakes/waffles, eggs, toast, pb&j, muffins, snack food, normal toddler food like Mac & cheese, chicken nuggets, pizza, frozen sweet potato bites.

Food he’ll sometimes eat: regular crockpot/grilled chicken, pasta, peaches/apples, oatmeal, tomato soup/grilled cheese

He will not touch vegetables, most other fruits, fish/beef/sausage, rice, any sort of constructed meal or pastas with sauce beyond cheese

We always give safe foods alongside new things, and I’ve recently cut down to just one safe food with meals unless he’s had a really poor day of eating. I just am feeling defeated and needed to vent.
