Is doing a Master of Computer Science in Australia actually useful, or is it purely a visa vehicle?

Looking at enrolling in a Master of CS at UniMelb or Monash. Half the people I talk to say a Master's degree gives you zero advantage over a Bachelor's in technical interviews and is 90% international students using it for post-study work visas. Does having a Master's actually help you pass resume screens at top-tier Aussie tech firms, or is relevant work experience/projects all that matters?

Youth Allowance (Student) independence criteria - is the 18-month work history rule strictly enforced?

Trying to qualify for Youth Allowance as an independent student because my parents earn just over the income test threshold, but they don't support me financially at all. I worked part-time during my gap year and earned around $28k, but it was spread across 14 months instead of 18. Is there any leeway with the regional student concessions, or will they reject the independence claim automatically?

Recommendation for a solid Pilates or yoga studio for complete beginners?

I have been wanting to start reformer Pilates or beginner yoga to fix my desk-worker posture, but a lot of the boutique studios look pretty intimidating from the outside. Can anyone recommend a welcoming, low-pressure studio around Geelong CBD, Newtown, or Pakington Street where instructors actually take the time to help you with form?

Regretting picking Methods over General Math

I picked Methods at the end of Year 10 because everyone told me it "opens up way more uni courses" and that scaling would save my study score. Fast forward to now and I am spending 70% of my total study time just trying to get a passing grade on probability and calculus SACs while my English and Psychology suffer. Meanwhile my mates in General Math are cruising with 90s. If your course does not strictly require Methods as a prerequisite, do not let people convince you to take it just for scaling

Merging on the Geelong Ring Road seems to be getting worse

I drive along the Ring Road pretty regularly, and it seems like every second trip someone tries to merge onto the freeway at 70 km/h instead of matching the traffic speed. Is it just me noticing this more lately, or has merging always been a bit of a struggle around the Fyansford and Hamlyn Heights on-ramps?

I’m trying to find some local live music this weekend. Do you have any favourite venues?

I’m looking to get out and catch some live tunes this weekend, but I feel like I’m stuck in a loop of going to the same two spots. I’ve hit the Barwon Club plenty of times (which is obviously a classic, can't fault it), but I’m keen to mix it up a bit. Is anyone playing anywhere else that’s actually got a decent vibe?

How are you balancing social life and school?

I feel like every time I hang out with friends, I’m secretly feeling guilty about not studying. How do you find a balance that doesn’t leave you feeling like a social hermit?

Do universities actually care about your lower scaled subjects?

Say I completely bomb one of my bottom two subjects but do really well in my primary four. Does the aggregate score just take the ten percent and move on, or do uni courses look closely at individual study scores for your bottom subjects?

What's your favourite day trip that's less than an hour from Geelong?

If you've got a free day and want to keep the drive to under an hour from Geelong, where do you usually head? I'm open to anything really. Coastal towns, bushwalks, good food, wineries, scenic drives or just places that are nice to wander around for a few hours

Who matches up on lachie neale this thursday night?

With the lions coming to town for a massive top four clash we have to find a way to stop neale dominating the clearances. Do we put a hard tag on him with someone like tanner bruhn or do we just trust our system at gmhba stadium and back our midfielders to win their own ball?

Where are the fellow Blues expats watching the game tonight?

Just trying to find a solid venue for Game 2 tonight where Origin won't be relegated to a tiny, muted screen behind the bar. Being a Blues fan in Geelong can be a pretty lonely experience and I want to avoid getting blank stares from a room full of AFL fans while wearing my jersey. Where are the best pubs or sports bars around town that are guaranteed to have the main projector running with full audio commentary loud?

Is anyone else absolutely drowning in physics unit 3 right now?

I feel like I understand the concepts in class but the second I open an exam style question about gravitational fields it looks like a foreign language. How are we meant to memorise all these specific variations for the cheat sheet?

What is the best versatile sneaker that isn't a plain white leather minimalist shoe?

The clean white sneaker trend is fine, but I want something with a bit more texture or a different silhouette for casual weekend wear. What are we wearing right now that looks clean but has a bit of personality?

Are we allowed to wear plain black sneakers instead of the official safety shoes?

The boots they issued me are giving me massive heel blisters during long standing shifts at the service desk. Has anyone successfully convinced their store manager to let them wear standard black running shoes as long as they are completely leather?
