What counts as a valid attendance issue these days?

I have a minor medical thing next week and need to reschedule a routine provider interview. Are they generally relaxed if you give them a few days notice or do they demand an official medical certificate just to move a timeslot by twenty four hours

How are we supposed to afford rent when the maximum rent assistance rate is so low?

The extra twenty or thirty bucks they chip in for rent assistance does absolutely nothing when the average cost of a room in a sharehouse has gone up by a hundred dollars a week over the last two years. I am spending over seventy percent of my total payment just keeping a roof over my head

You do not have to sign the voluntary privacy consent forms, no matter what they tell you

Just a heads-up for anyone new to the system: providers will hand you a stack of paperwork at your first meeting and imply your payments will be cut if you do not sign everything. The form that allows them to contact employers on your behalf is completely voluntary. If you refuse to sign it, they cannot legally penalise you under the targeted compliance framework

Need help with what i can do

I was on job seeker for one year and i got put on to see a job provider which found me an apprenticeship in support work. I am not studying but not full time as i go into tafe twice a month for a year and my hours are only 15 hours a week. My hours can vary based on shifts available. Some weeks i might get more. Every fortnight i still have to do my reporting and might get paid depending on how much i earnt during the period.

The issue i am facing now is my job provider is now threatening to cancel my payment if i don’t reach 30 hours consistently unless i find another job or they find me a second job on top of what i am currently doing.

I really enjoy my job and have been doing it for only two months and i would hate to leave. It would have been a waste of my time and i wouldn’t complete my cert 3 in individual support. Finding a second job won’t really work as It will clash a lot with my current role and if anything i would maybe get one day free which still won’t be worth it.

Anyway i have an appointment tomorrow to discuss my options.

Do not want Job Provider to know where I work

Hi,

Despite having a Job Provider, I found a job on my own.

I do not want my Job Provider to find out where I work.

Should I withdraw from the Job Provider's voluntary Privacy Policy? Will this prevent my Job Provider from seeing my reports on Workforce Australia?

Is there anything else I can do? Should I call the National Customer Service Line and request that I am moved back to self managed?

My JSP is a bully, laughs at me, made no effort to help me find suitable work, and regularly ignored my emails unless I cc’d the Government.

Thanks

Would IEA(Inclusive Employment Australia) be of much help?

Hello

Was wondering if any one had any ideas?

My experience of Job Service Providers and Disability Employment Services in the past not been great but was wonder if IEA(Inclusive Employment Australia) which replaced DES program might be any better?

Some Barriers for me getting work are
*Complex Family Violence issues
*Lack of references from past jobs years ago as lost contact
*FND causing up to 20 Seizures a day
*PTSD affecting concentration and memory

Seizures greatly limit jobs can do including unable do driving & machinery roles. Even office based jobs found employers are not willing to take someone on who has so many seizures.

For the PTSD and constant seizures I have muscles always feeling sore and tense thus makes physical demanding role hard.

As for above issues have linked into services for support but treatment wise nothing reduced the impact of the ptsd or the seizures so these conditions are considered lifelong and permanent.

No Communication With Provider

Hey guys, recently been put with a provider and had my initial in person appointment set for last week, however i was offered a job trial on the day of this appointment and couldn’t attend.

Sent multiple emails and have tried to call my provider to discuss re booking this appointment with no success.

I am now on day 4 of my ‘you have 5 days to communicate with us otherwise your payment will go on hold’ and am starting to stress. **And yes i am aware that after 20 or so days you will be back payed and able to report again however i cant afford to wait that long.

Any suggestions would be appreciated thanks!

AtWork - I found my own job

I start a temp job soon that I found for myself.

IEA the disability one.

I want to make sure they don’t get any bonuses or incentives to claim that THEY got me the job.

What do I withhold so that they don’t get any benefit from it? Payslips? Contract?

They’ve been so unhelpful in many ways so I don’t want them getting anything out of it.

Thanks.

Strange Thing happened to another jobseeker at my appointment

Had an appointment on Tuesday and there was a guy in front of me who said he just became self employed, the job provider told him about next steps and to send the provider payslips weekly. They were very stern with him and he said he would. When he left all the staff were celebrating and congradulating the job provider so just wondering, Do job providers get my money if you can show you are self employed?

Do Centrelink workers contact you on weekends?

I have a question. I was contacted by a services Australia worker some weekend ago just to let me know my medical certificate was coded. At first I thought it was a scam (of course it wasn't). I was wondering if it common of Centrelink workers to contact you on weekends? Because I thought it's only on weekdays.

Thank you for the help!

Anything I should know after first appointment at job provider?

Hey guys , I hope this post is okay, I am posting on my alternate account as I don't want to put my personal and main reddit account out there in this sub incase someone may know me.

I am on JOB SEEKER and today I went to my first appointment at MatchWorks. After sitting down and hearing what the person working there had to say I had some thoughts of putting it here to see if there is anything I should know about that this person may have intentionally or not intentionally avoided to mention.

I would love to know if there is.

Thank you for your time.

"Employability Skills Training" course is making me feel like I'm back in primary school

I'm in my mid 20's. I've been on JobSeeker self managed online since December, was previously on AuStudy. Got told I have to do a course, fine, picked one I can do online because with the price of petrol it'd cost me half my payment just to drive in to the nearest course provider, and at least if it's online I can get some housework done while I'm listening to the trainer/on breaks.

A lot of the content of this course could actually be useful to me. Resume and Cover Letter assistance, interview skills and practice, information about industries I hadn't previously considered. I have worked the same retail job for 5 years, worked single-day contracts for the AEC, and done temp gigs behind the bar at the local footy club, but I don't have a lot of experience with interviews and it's great to get a second opinion on my resumes etc.

But half the course is spent with the trainer having to re-explain basic concepts like how to open the online learning modules or just how to actually answer the questions in sentences. Half the answers people give in the Teams chat aren't even legible sentences, let alone actually answering the trainer's questions. And this isn't a matter of English language skills, these shoddy answers are coming from people who have spoken on camera in the Teams chat and they obviously are able to speak and understand an English conversation.

I feel like I'm wasting my time waiting for people to figure out the basic stuff, just like back in primary school when I was borrowing novels from the upper years library while the class was stuck waiting for little Timmy on the next table to learn to spell "cat".

I know one of the listed courses on WorkForce is English skills for people who have English as a second/additional language, but are there supports for people whose first language is English but they also need to improve their writing or comprehension skills? If they do exist, do they advertise these well enough to get people who need them actually using them?

If anything, I need assistance with social skills and interview skills. I have Autism and these are both difficult for me. Are there courses/supports available for me to work on those specific skills?

Sorry for the half rant half question, I'm very frustrated that I feel like I'm actually trying to make use of the system and the system is failing us.

Wtf is with APM here

So yesterday I get this message

“Hi XXXX, our records show you may not have met an obligation. Contact us on 1800276932 to discuss why you missed an obligation and any steps you need to take. Your JobSeeker Payment will go on hold in 5 business days if you don't meet your obligation or talk to us. Check your Workforce Australia inbox for more information.”

I sent an email to the APM consultant a day prior to an appointment as it was double booked at different times. I also requested to reschedule clearly stating the times I was available. I then had to resend the email because the consultants email wasn’t ‘active’ or in other words their turnover rate engaged. I then resent the email to the one quoted in the automated ‘this address isn’t active’ email. On the day of the appointment I called twice because I hadn’t heard back, no answer on the phone. Then I get the above text message, left another voice mail because I find it ironic that all I’m trying to do is communicate to these people. Sure enough I try to ring back this morning, again no answer.

Do I literally have to storm in there just for someone to acknowledge me or something? Good thing I have a paper trail for this nonsense.

[Vent] Employment consultant is getting on my nerves

Basically as said above, but I want to vent to people here (delete if not allowed!)

I'm so tired of the sarcastic tone my consultant uses with me. Not sure if he speaks to me that way in particular because I bite back (sometimes can be fun for me), but it's so frustrating. I'm studying a cert 3 through my provider, and he claims I'm behind, even though I spoke to the school directly, and they said I'm right on track. After I explain that to him he says, "hey you're not in trouble - this isn't a principle-student telling off" and I'm like, I know that, it's you treating it that way.

He always contradicts himself, I think just so whatever I say is the wrong thing. One minute he's saying don't apply for jobs I don't want, after I've said that any job would be good right now. The next he's saying any job I can get is the best thing, once I've narrowed my search........!!!!

Can't wait to be done with this stupid system.

Provider contacting me from different numbers 7 months later...

I wish I can share the pictures but currently still receiving text messages and phone calls from Atwork regarding my place of work and my pay slips. Latest being 2 minutes ago.

As of today, I've had 4 phone calls and 3 texts asking for ABN and payslip. I haven't been on Centrelink for 7 months now and they are still going. I've blocked their number previously, filed a complaint and it stopped for a few months. It picked up again this week. Everyday 5 or 6 calls then followed by texts.

job consultant being dismissive

I've been with Atwork since November last year. I graduated with a Bachelors in International Studies. I've been diagnosed with bipolar and have social anxiety. I work as a kitchen hand. I completed a career quiz, and my job consultant suggested that I apply for business and logistics traineeships. I've only had 3 interviews so far, and they were all rejections. When I said that I couldn't understand the job requirements he told me to volunteer in an office. He said that I have a job, so I shouldn't be in a rush to find a new job. He laughed at me and said I'm overthinking in interviews. I feel alone, and feel like my job consultant is being dismissive.

Is there any pattern to what providers approve, or does it feel completely random?

I’m doing a paramedicine degree and recently asked my provider for help covering a $200 clinical placement uniform. I was told it “wasn’t a priority”, which surprised me given it’s a required cost for my course. At the same time, I saw someone else in the waiting room get approved for a $500 work boots voucher for a job they hadn’t even started yet, which made me wonder how these decisions are actually being made. Has anyone here actually managed to get funding approved recently, and if so, what made the difference?

What’s the go-to response when your consultant asks what you’ve been doing all day?

I’m doing full-time uni at the moment and still get asked this in appointments like studying somehow doesn’t take up half your life already

Do we have to do the activities listed under 'Your Tasks' in the Workforce App?

Currently not in the mandatory activity phase but my consultant keeps putting up stuff for me to do, I already do job searches, attend all appointments but he says I need to look busy, so he put me up for a First Aid course for one day and for some kind of work expo where employers will be 'hiring', he put that one on my tasks, so I assume I must go and put it in the app that I attended, now I really don't want to go but I was wondering what happens if I don't go or just put attended in the app but without going there, will they cut me off?, just wondering what is really compulsory and what isn't, thanks in advance.

Are Workforce Australia activities mandatory?

Looks I had to enrol into an Employability Skills Training program. Is there anyway to get out of it since its likely going to be a waste of time?
