Is working as a Transport Officer (NEPT) actually helping or hindering state service re-applications?

Currently waiting out recruitment pools for state emergency services. In the meantime, I’m looking at applying for Non-Emergency Patient Transport (PTO / ATA) roles with private providers just to stay working in healthcare, keep my hands on equipment, and pay the bills

How many points are you guys getting for short online training modules?

Trying to hit my 100 points for the month under the Points Based Activation System (PBAS). My job search target is set to 40 points (4 jobs), so I need another 60 points.

I’m doing some free micro-credentials and short online safety courses. Does anyone know how many points Workforce Australia usually allocates for these?

Do rural paramedics get broader experience than metro crews?

I've been wondering about the differences between rural and metro work. Obviously the call mix and resources can be very different, but does working rurally genuinely give you more exposure to a wider range of presentations and procedures?

Vet Student Loans vs upfront payment plan options

Looking at enrolling in a Diploma level course that exceeds the state subsidy threshold, so out-of-pocket costs are around 4000 dollars. For those who used VET Student Loans, is the loan fee added on top, or are you better off setting up an instalment payment plan directly with the campus each term?

How much has the shift toward electronic medical records actually changed the day to day experience of clinical coding in Australia and has the quality of the documentation improved in a way that makes the job easier or just created different problems?

process. The reality of what coders are actually working with seems to vary enormously between facilities and between systems in a way that the enthusiasm around digital health implementation didn't always anticipate. Would love to know how people here think the transition has actually played out in practice - whether the documentation they're coding from is genuinely better than what paper records produced or whether the problems have just changed shape rather than actually diminishing.

How are graduate paramedics coping with the decision to relocate to regional or rural stations?

I just received an offer for a graduate position, but it requires moving six hours away from my family and support network to a rural branch. I am excited to finally start my career, but the reality of setting up a life in a small community is hitting me hard. For those who made the move regional for your grad year, did you end up staying or transferring back to the metropolitan area as soon as possible?

Thinking about making the move down from Sydney

For anyone who made the move or has been here long term, what are the things you wish you knew before packing up? How is the reality of the rental market right now, and is getting around without a car as straightforward as people make out if you live a bit further out?

Current state of domestic business class catering on trans-continental runs

Hopped an early morning trans-continental flight expecting a proper hot breakfast, only to get served a rather uninspiring tray that felt a step down from what used to be standard. For the cash or points premium they charge, the food consistency feels like a massive lucky dip lately. Are you noticing a decline in the onboard meal experience on domestic sectors?

Finding the balance between following guidelines and clinical judgment

In university everything is very black and white with clinical practice guidelines but on road the patients rarely present like the textbook. I am struggling a bit with knowing when to strictly adhere to the flowcharts and when to use a bit of common sense when a patient sits right in the grey area.

Moving state after registration

Thinking about making the move from Queensland down to Victoria later this year. For anyone who has done the interstate jump recently, how painful was the transition process? I know AHPRA registration carries across, but I'm mostly wondering about the workplace induction side of things and any differences in protocols or systems. Was it fairly straightforward, or were there any surprises?

What do you find yourself actively avoiding in your personal life due to job trauma?

For the senior crews on here, does this intense hypervigilance eventually level out over time, or do you just permanently view the entire world as a giant hazard mapping exercise?

Is anyone working a secondary casual job to supplement their income or is that a recipe for burnout?

The cost of living is getting ridiculous and my base rate isn't stretching as far as it used to. Thinking of picking up some casual shifts doing events or industrial first aid on my four days off. Does anyone do this or do you find that you desperately need those days off just to stay sane?

Is anyone else completely burnt out by the housing market situation?

Absolute rant post. Being a transient paramedic in this country is becoming completely soul-crushing. The service expects you to pack up and move to a regional or rural station at a moment's notice with zero assistance, and then you are thrown at the mercy of property managers who treat you like garbage. I have heard of multiple grads couch surfing or literally sleeping out of their cars because rentals simply do not exist. How are we supposed to fix the retention crisis if we can't even secure a roof over our heads?

Can you return an item if you accidentally threw away the cardboard box?

I bought one of the digital air fryers last week but the box it came in was massive so I flattened it and put it straight in the recycling bin. The machine is working fine but the fan makes a really loud rattling noise. Will customer service still accept a return with just the digital receipt and the unit itself?

How honest should I be in my daily placement reflection logs?

Our uni requires a detailed reflection after every single shift but I am worried about sounding incompetent if I write down what actually went wrong. Do the clinical educators understand that we are supposed to make mistakes or will documenting a bad radio handover or a missed cannulation tank my final grade?

How long does it usually take for a change of provider request to process?

I put in a formal request to transfer to a different office down the road because my current consultant is incredibly rude and unprofessional. The customer service line said it would be assessed within a few days but I have another mandatory appointment with my current provider coming up this Friday. Do I still have to attend if the transfer is pending?

Why do family members always try to navigate from the front seat?

If we are transporting a patient and a relative tags along in the front cabin they instantly turn into a human satellite navigation system. They keep telling you shortcuts through back alleys and shouting about speed bumps that you have already seen from a mile away

Even after the worst shifts with ramped hospitals, terrible management decisions, and abusive patients, there is still nothing quite like the feeling of genuinely making a difference when someone is having the absolute worst day of their life
