hello everyone i just installed void and niri with it it take me along time to set it up with help of deepseek but if i rebooted my pc i have to use all of these commands all over again

to make niri work is there any other way

hello everyone
i downloaded the void iso and tried with dd and ventoy
every time i pick void and it loads before bash start it give me this error
config failed hub doesn't have any ports (err -19)
what should i do now to fix this

Edit: fixed it by choosing the third option then installing from the internet with the latest version 6.18

I'll be installing Void Linux in the next few days (I'm migrating from Arch).

On Arch, we have the AUR, which gives us access to almost any package imaginable. With Void, there are only about 2 to 5 specific packages I need that aren't in the official repositories, so I'm trying to figure out the best workaround.

I've seen people suggest xbps-src, but I really don't want to build from source. Compiling large applications like a web browser takes way too much time and system resources.

I also considered Flatpak since it's easy to use, but I'm not a fan of how it downloads a ton of bundled dependencies and runs the app in an isolated sandbox.

The last option I thought of was using the Nix package manager. Since it works outside of NixOS, I could use it to install the specific apps I need, such as:

• Brave (brave-origin)
• Waterfox
• Faugus Launcher (this is the most important one for me!)

The Nix repository is massive. My plan is to use the official Void repositories for all my core system packages and strictly use Nixpkgs for these few extra, unrelated applications.

What do you think? Is using Nix alongside Void a good approach for this, or is there a better option I should consider?

I'm on Arch right now but I'm looking to try another distro that has a similar minimalist feel. I don't mind a steep learning curve, which led me to discover Chimera Linux (not ChimeraOS) and Void.

Both look incredibly interesting, but I'm torn on which one to choose. I'm primarily a gamer, so I'd really appreciate hearing your thoughts and experiences with either distro for gaming.

Just to give you some context on my setup: I'm running a full AMD system and I use the Limine bootloader.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

i have been using linux for 2 years now i tried
mint,fedora,bazzit,nobara,nixos,cachyos,endvouros,pikaos and arch
but didn't find any distro to fit me 100% more than arch
i really liked nixos and wanted to use it but some guy said all of it pkgs in one github repo and if it go down all the system will go with it so i returned back to arch now
i found my home in the WM and it's niri
but for a distro i want a rolling release and have the latest pkgs with the least ram usage is there something like that out there or just stick to arch

i have been using arch linux for long time now i love the rolling release so i decided to try artix instead of void
so what init system should i try i heard openRC and dinit is so good
and i want to know what will change in my daily use
i use niri
waybar
swaybg
mako
and yazi as my file manager
i also game on my pc so will i face any problem
and does chaotic-aur work on artix as well
i have full amd system so i should be good i think
can evryone recommend what should i do to figure out how to handle init systems

I just bought an RX 9060 XT 16GB, and I’m looking to replace my 1080p MSI MAG 255F with a 1440p monitor.

These are the options available in my market. Which one would you recommend?

4. Lenovo Legion R27qe Gen 2

My main use will be story-driven games, movies, and anime, so image quality is more important to me than competitive gaming performance.

I know there are two VA and two IPS options here. If the VA monitor has low enough ghosting that it doesn't noticeably affect story games, I think I could live with it, especially if the better contrast makes movies and dark scenes look better.

Unfortunately, I can't afford a Mini-LED or OLED monitor, so these are basically my only options.

Which one would you choose, and why?

when i try to open nixpkgs site it just loads with nothing happening
if i used vpn it opens normally could this effect installing pkgs cause i want to try nixos

I've been using Arch Linux with Niri for quite a while, along with the SCX_LAVD scheduler, and my gaming performance was great.

I wanted to squeeze out a bit more FPS, so I decided to switch to CachyOS (KDE edition). I installed it manually with:

• 4 GB EFI/boot partition
• The rest of the drive is formatted as Btrfs

After the installation, I:

• Installed the gaming packages.
• Enabled VRAM management.
• Added amd_pstate=active to the kernel parameters.
• Disabled UMIP.
• Enabled the 12 GB VRAM setting in the configuration.

However, my gaming performance became noticeably worse.

I tested it in Pragmata. On my previous Arch setup, I had a very stable 60 FPS. On CachyOS, the game stutters much more, and the frame rate frequently drops into the 40–50 FPS range.

Did I configure something incorrectly, or is there something in CachyOS that I should check? I'd appreciate any suggestions on what might be causing the performance regression.
