Limited to video games?

I wanted to ask if there are any dads out there that are into other types of gaming besides video games! I LOVE playing board games with friends, card games like Magic the Gathering, and I even dabble a bit on Warhammer (both the 40k and the Age of Sigmar versions).

How do you game?

Sell me on the Kruelboyz, please!

I've got the chance to grab the Harbinger box from my local store for 80 bucks. A: is that even a good deal? And B: I am interested in the look of the Kruelboyz but have no idea how they play or what kind of value I'll find in that box. I'd love to have the full spearhead, so I also wanted to know if there was a box that had the Spearhead in it with the Stormcast models too?

Thanks!

I just wanted to say...

I'm so glad this subreddit exists. I truly hope it pops off and starts generating a lot of buzz around the game. I know it'll probably be a little less active until the books are released, but I'd love to see a day when we get art of oc's, storylines, stories about game nights, and more. Fingers crossed. I'll see you out among the stars!

Combat Patrol in Progress

Just wanted to show off my recent paint on a Doomstalker. My whole army has the red plates with gold trim. I'm working on the Overlord now and I'll be done :) just wanted to share, see what folks think. All of the green has Vallejo Fluo Green in it, Al it glows under UV Light.

Deathrattle Books?

Are there any lore books on the Deathrattle? Not like... A rulebook that comes in a miniatures box that also had lore... I am wondering if there are any novels about or from the perspective of the Deathrattle.

Thanks!

Question before assembling my Deathrattle Tomb Host

I recently got the Deathrattle Tomb Host Spearhead as my introduction to AoS officially. I'm VERY excited, but I don't want to get too ahead of myself. Here's my question:

Should I paint any parts of the minis before assembling them? So far, I've cut the Wight King out and already it seems like I might want to get parts of his shield and cloak before assembling completely.

Any advice is appreciated!

Neon Odyssey Crossover

I just wanted to chime in and express my excitement for the Starlight Brigade and Neon Odyssey Crossover we get. I've seen TWRP 2x in Nashville, once with NSP as well. That song is why. It was my first experience with Dan and TWRP, so to see it coming to life in the Neon Odyssey d&d expansion is an amazing opportunity.

Just wanted to say I'm pumped. Are you going to play Neon Odyssey? If so, what kind of game or character do you want to play? I'm a DM, so I'll be running a Mech campaign like Gundam Wing and then I'll also run a Bounty Hunter campaign like Cowboy Bebop lol.

Spreading the Good Word of the Secret Achievement

Hi! Hello! I'm your friendly neighborhood MIGHTY ORC SAMURAI Guy :)

In the first year of the game's release, I thought the only thing missing was the ability for me to make my Orcs into might samurai warriors. I was persistent, and I commented about how awesome it would be to have my Orcs be MIGHTY SAMURAI for MONTHS. Well, the developers listened and produced the Oathsworn culture.

I want to thank them not just for adding this cool culture a few years ago, but to remind everyone that there is a SECRET ACHIEVEMENT called "Fan Favorite."

How do you get this achievement? By winning with a 100% good aligned Oathsworn Orc leader, that's how :)

I will forever feel honored to be represented in the game, even in this tiny way. The devs for this game are AMAZING, and they deserve every good thing that comes their way. I've commented about this before in other places and on a different reddit account (got hacked, boo), but I like to come in and remind folks that there's an awesome achievement out there just waiting for you to try and win with the honor of the Mighty Orc Samurai!

I got invited to play my first game. Help me learn to play.

I'm a long-time admirer of the game, and I've painted some stuff here and there. I've been invited to play with a new friend and their group. They play on Saturdays, usually combat patrol. What video do I watch, what book do I read, what article do I look up to help me learn to play this game as quickly and efficiently as possible. Do I need to know all the rules to the base game as well as the combat patrol rules? If so, please direct me to the same media that will assist in that as well.

I've got a fully painted Tyranid combat patrol (the one that came in the starter box), and I've got the warriors painted out of a Necron combat patrol. I've got everything but the librarian for the space marine combat patrol. All unpainted on those. Which of these three is best to start with?

Frodo and Sam, Bracket 3: Hobbit typal with a flare for the beauty of the Lord of the Rings. I've custom printed the cards I've swapped out to upgrade the deck to have in-universe art for the Lord of the Rings. This is my favorite deck to play for a casual, enjoyable experience.

Terra, Magical Adept, low bracket 4: summon typal. Can pop off, but really just has such a cool vibe.

The Destined Warrior, Bracket 3: this deck is goofy, lol. It's party themed for the commander... But it's also dungeon themed. So the whole idea is that the party is advancing through the dungeons together. Very fun and flavorful deck.

Ganax, Astral Hunter and Folk Hero, bracket 3: play dragons, make treasures... Use treasures to make dragons to make treasures to make dragons to make treasures to make....

Betor, Ancestor's Voice, Bracket 3: breathe in, breathe out. This deck is strong, fun, and effective.

Davros, Dalek Creator, bracket 2: this deck is just fun to play because you're constantly twirling your mustaches, real or imagined, and asking "mwhahaha would you like to make a villainous choice?"

Imotekh The Stormlord, bracket 3: filter everything through the yard to make an army of nameless skelly bois.

We don't usually run nonland tutors or infinite combos in our decks, but otherwise we build them for fun and to win.

I don't have a monowhite commander, and I can't find one I think is interesting. That's where you come in.

I like a fun, thematic deck. One that doesn't have to be built to destroy, but to "do the thing." Whatever that thing is. I don't wanna durdle, but I want my thing to be consistent.

Talk me into building YOUR mono-white commander suggestion :)

So I've got a desk built into a wall in my home office. The desk covers the bottom like 1/5 of the window in the room, making a window unit AC a hard sell unless it's got a very slim profile inside the house. I wanted to ask for suggestions on how I can cool the room without sawing into my desk. The room is 12x8 with a very small closet attached. It has a very good ceiling fan, but it can only do so much when it hits 82f in the room because I've got a computer and a monitor running.
