Moved to a new place and fully expected the Arborist to tell me this tree needs to go - surprised to find out that it’s just sick and being eaten alive by tiny bugs:

I asked a reputable company to send a cert arborist to my home in Missouri:

I asked about the dead branches and how to best prune the tree. He told me that he recommends exposing the trunk and cutting everything up 10ft and removing all dead branches thicker than an 1 inch - $1100

I asked about the roots and if it would be a good idea to create an area around the tree trunk with no grass - he said it would not matter for this tree due to its age.

I asked about stability and he told me that the tree trunk is healed and the tree is stable for now.

He told me that the tree has insects eating it (scale) and it needs treatment - see last photo for the white bugs he pointed out - he said these only eat maples and my other trees would not be impacted.

He provided two ways to treat the tree:

Systemic Insecticide Treatment: $280
Liquid Humate Application: $265

He also recommends coming in the fall for this service
