[Landlord US-NYC] Service animal

Hi, I'm a property manager for a queens apartment and we have a huge backyard. So we rented to a person with a dog once and they destroyed the backyard so we vowed to never rent to people with dogs again. I could rent out the space to a dog person for 3500K but I lowered the price to people without dogs for $3200. Today someone contacted me and when I asked if they had pets they said no but then after I made an appointment to show they said they had a service dog. Like, what? Now I'm on the hook. It sucks because I can get much more money for this space for a regular dog but now it feels like they are trying to trick me. What do I do? I know I can't say "No Service Dogs!" legally. Do I just not contact them again? Anybody know what to do?

Gap coming to Atlantic Center

Gap, the good one, not crappy gap factory, is coming to Atlantic center where Guitar Center used to be. I'm pretty happy because they closed all the ones in lower manhattan and Brooklyn and turned them into gap factories. I was so sad the one in Bensonhurst turned into a Gap Factory. You had to travel all the way to flatiron for a real Gap.

If anyone wants to be a general manager:

Curb cut scam?

Has anyone else noticed the recent construction on curb cuts throughout Sunset Park? I've been seeing crews tear up perfectly functional sidewalks that were installed less than three years ago, only to replace them with what appear to be identical designs. It’s frustrating to see resources spent on areas that were in good condition while other sidewalks in the neighborhood remain in poor shape. Does anyone know if there’s a specific project or initiative behind this, or does it seem like a questionable use of capital funding to you all? Shady. Might be a contractor scam like they did when they constructed PS 896.

Time Capsule into 2005 Williamsburg

Another look into the ancient texts of Wburg lore. This from the grandmasters of new wave hipsterdome in the internet 2.0 age: MGMT. Video was from Wythe and 6th Street in 2005. 2 decades have passed. Somebody born then is now graduating college. You could go into Williamburg and just throw any impromptu concert in a abandoned factory in those days and run around in cardboard tanks in the streets. You can still do that today but it was more legendary back then.

Greenpoint in 2014

Kimbra from "Somebody you used to know" made a cool disco song on Noble and I think Lorimer. Too bad it didn't take off. Sounds like Kylie Minogue.

Time Capsule into 2013 Williamsburg Summer

Man time flies. I remember this area like it was yesterday. Williamsburg was already half gentrified. Hard to believe it's been 13 years.

In February 2014, Kiesza released the video for "Hideaway" through the indie label Lokal Legend.[29] The video itself was filmed on July 9, 2013.[30] Idolator considered it unique for having a single shot through the entire video (like Janet Jackson's music video for "When I Think of You" among others), as Kiesza walked and danced through the streets of Williamsburg, Brooklyn (Kent Ave & North 12th St).[29] John Gentile of Rolling Stone called the style "impressive".[31] Kiesza reported to Rolling Stone that she had a big problem making the video, partly because she broke a rib just before filming, and "couldn't move for an entire month afterward."

More moped balaclava guys in black incidents

So these guys have been going down to Bush Terminal and constantly popping wheelies and doing dangerous stunts on the jetty, especially drag racing and also in the parking lot and are a nuisance.

Then one of them dies a couple of days ago: https://www.nydailynews.com/2026/07/01/teen-riding-on-back-of-moped-dies-in-crash-on-brooklyn-jetty/

"The latest victim was on a ZNEN moped when the 17-year-old boy operating it lost control on a jetty in Bush Terminal Park near First Ave. and 47th St. in Sunset Park about 9:30 p.m. Tuesday"

Then there was another shooting by these guys on 3rd avenue and 51st Street last month:

This is in addition to the knife robbery nearby CityMD:

Then they've been going to nearby neighborhoods like Dyker Heights and fighting and another person lost his life:

https://nypost.com/2026/06/28/us-news/fatally-stabbed-nyc-man-idd-as-manuel-estanislao-chox-choc/

"A 30-year-old was stabbed in the gut and a 21-year-old was stabbed in the chest during a battle inside Dyker Beach Park in Dyker Heights just before 2 p.m., according to police.

The fight was between warring Mexican gangs, police sources said.

The young man fatally stabbed in a gang-related attack near million-dollar Brooklyn homes Saturday was a “quiet kid’’ watching a local soccer game when violent menaces on mopeds rolled up, witnesses said.

Police on Sunday identified the fatal Dyker Heights victim as Manuel Estanislao Chox Choc, 21, from neighboring Bath Beach — and took a 16-year-old with suspected ties to a notorious Mexican gang into custody for his murder.

Law-enforcement sources said they believe that the stabbing was carried out by members of the Los Niños Malos gang, a Mexican street gang whose name means “Bad Boys” in Spanish.

The gang is well-known for terrorizing Brooklyn, having strongholds in Sunset Park and Bed-Stuy, sources said.

Moped-riding scofflaws have been a consistent problem in the area, terrorizing Dyker Beach Park, residents told The Post.

“These idiots always come through here in their mopeds,” Moeller said. “The guy in the Parks Department chased them out of here the other day.”

Miguel Cocom, 31, said he’s had some close encounters with the thugs while spending time in the park.

“They come around here wearing ski masks,” Cocom said. “There’s always a group of about five in mopeds. They drive reckless.”"

You don't need a TV to know when Mexico scores

Seriously, Like I'm just trying to enjoy my book and it's pandemonium in the streets. Pretty charming.

Leon held my son before me

The story of Leon Rose and the Brunsons is truly surreal. When Jalen Brunson was born in 1996, his father, Rick, was playing professional basketball in Australia. Due to travel constraints, Rick was unable to make it back to the States for two months, so his close friend and longtime agent, Leon Rose, stepped in to support Rick's wife, Sandra, at the hospital.

Leon was actually the one who page-messaged Rick to break the news that Jalen had arrived safely. It is honestly mind-blowing to think that the man who held newborn Jalen in that hospital room would go on to become the GM of the Knicks and eventually build a championship-contending team around that same child. The narrative arc of their relationship—from a hospital delivery room to a Finals MVP vision—is nothing short of poetic.

ALysa nominated for ESPYS

They did her dirty because they didn't put her in with female athletes and will be in the "breakthrough athlete" category. She would have ran away with the female athlete one but now she has to face Fernando Mendoza. I still think she takes it but it's kind of crazy she's not in the female category.

Asian American guy gets 100 year in prison for doing DSA antifa stuff

Benjamin Song, the Marine reservist who was convicted of opening fire during the July 4 demonstration outside the Prairieland Detention Center near Dallas, was sentenced to 100 years in prison, the maximum punishment.

Is this asian masculinity taken to the Nth degree? or is this the opposite and white adjacentism trying to curry favor? Would you consider him a boba liberal? This is like one battle after another movie but with a even sadder and dumber ending. Hope this guy at least got some for his troubles, but I doubt it. 100 years! Geez!

shooting video at the Puerto Rican Day Parade

Another black clad balaclava wearing guy shooting people in Sunset and Mitaynes and Aviles not doing anything. This is like the 9th time in 6 months for these types of incidents and those are the only ones reported. The dude was head to toe black with hood and hat in 90 degree weather. C'mon!
