Meds after DBS

My 54yo husband had DBS a month ago. He is doing well and back at work. He is still trying to settle on a new medication schedule. His doctor keeps telling him he should only decrease by 30% maybe up to 50%. However, he feels best with no medication or a low dose sinimet 3x a day (he was maxed on crexont prior). We go in Friday for his final programming and I am wondering if anyone has had a doctor push back on taking less meds. She claims there are risks of depression but, if he takes more he gets major dyskenisia. Anyone have advice?

Safeway deliveries

For the past year or more I have had safeway deliver groceries. It is really hard for me to shop in person and this has been life saving. The last 3 orders I have had missing items. Today I was missing almost $50 worth of items. I have requested a refund but I am still very angry. Is there anything more I can do?

Do you have Western Health Advantage? Please help

I am about to switch health plans unfortunately. I am well established with Sutter with several specialists at UCSF and Stanford.

Western Health Advantage is about $500 a month cheaper and looks to have similar coverage. I am wondering about finding a primary care doctor - is it difficult? How has the level of care been for you? What happens when you need a specialist? Anyone have complex medical needs and how is this for you? Providence Hospital? It is okay too, right?

Any help or advice is greatly appreciated.

Trading for something else

Hello all. I have a 2023 limited with 50k miles. I don't love this car. I live in the mountains and my old Volvo and husband's Elantra are much nicer to drive. The Subaru infotainment system is garbage and I am on myn3rd set of tires (which is insane). What I do like is getting in and out (because I am old and it isn't a struggle), the gas mileage has been great, and basics like adaptive cruise control.

Has anyone found anything they would trade for?

Just found HR's reasons why we are supporting WFH

Here are some reasons cited by HR in a training i just ran into. I think we need to remind ourselves and everyone on this sub since the Governor seems to be gaslighting us so effectively.

  1. Flexibility- increased work-life balance

  2. More efficient

  3. Higher productivity

  4. Increased collaboration

  5. Burnout mitigation

  6. Environmental impacts

10 days after DBS

Hello! I have posted a few times recently. Thanks for being so supportive. My husband had DBS surgery 10 days ago- Medtronic Percept RC. It was at UCSF and had like the best surgeon. We feel very lucky to be close enough to UCSF.

He is doing great. We go tomorrow to have sutures removed and ALSO for his first programming. I will of course ask his neurologist who he is seeing, but very curious why everything I read says they don't program for 3-4 weeks but they are doing it at 11 days. Anyone else have their first programming so quickly?

Meetings during RTO are way less productive

I am sitting in a meeting with about 25 internal staff. Those who are teleworking are ALL multitasking. Those in office are either wiggling around or staring blankly at the walls. Huge waste of time.

Day 4 after DBS

Hello community. My 54yo husband had full install of medtronic RC at UCSF 4 days ago. I changed bandages yesterday and things are looking good. He has only been on Tylenol since day 2. First 2 days he slept. Yesterday was a little rough feeling "pressure" not pain so much. Yesterday evening he was feeling better and up watching TV. He couldn't fall asleep and stayed up until 3am. Today he says pressure is back and he seems kind of just out of it a little. He ate a bit and we talked for a while. He smiled (when I asked) and has been walking to the bathroom. I don't expect a smooth and quick recovery, but reading some posts made me want to check in. Does this all sound consistent with your recovery experiences? Thanks for being here

Leaders who hate remote work are narcissistic

From the article:

  • Our research illuminates why some leaders oppose virtual work arrangements.
  • We find that narcissistic leaders (executives, middle managers, supervisors) tend to resist remote work.
  • Narcissistic leaders resist remote work because it interferes with their motivations for power and status.

So if there is a company that refuses remote work options, that's a sign that leadership is narcissistic (self-centered and entitled).

How do you find pet sitters besides Rover?

I have a great pet sitter but Rover suspended her because ONE dude is an idiot. She just started using their app too! She will always be my go to person, as she has been for a couple of years, but I need backups for when she isn't available. I am not using Rover after hearing and seeing her story (they need a union like Uber). Where else do you all find pet sitters?

Question for my IBS friends

Today I am scheduled to go from .5 to 1. I am a mixed type but lean towards C. However, as of this morning I am D. Do you time your shots based on IBS related symptoms or do you just go for it?

Newsom can't run for POTUS as a progressive with RTO

Just what the title says. RTO supports the idea that he is a corporate shill, not a progressive. This will hurt his chances at higher office. The tide is turning on corporate Dems. For so many logical and not self serving reasons he needs to re-evaluate his positions in his last 6 months in office.

Help with dental needs

My daughter just turned 20. She was diagnosed with Autism, OCD, and a host of chronic illnesses. She had a horrible experience at age 5 with an oral surgery. Since then she has had severe medical anxiety and NO NEEDLES ALLOWED. We cannot draw blood or get her dental work done. She had 7 oral surgeries under general anesthesia but no one will help her as an adult. I have taken her to over a dozen dentists and oral surgeons. I've had my dentist call around to try and find help with no luck. I have called teaching hospitals. I found ONE doctor in San Francisco who would do the work but he is cash only and it would be a minimum of 25k, which I do not have.

Her teeth are literally crumbling and breaking and plus a wisdom tooth is half grown in. I am desperate. Has anyone, ever, dealt with this?

Why 4 days a week?

If this is truly for collaboration why does it have to be 4 days a week? That literally makes no sense. Newsom's arguments make NO sense. I hope to God we win in court or all walk out. I am appalled at the way we are treated. RTO canceling AWWS, this is all unnecessary and very Trump coded

Please vote!

Pick your poison, but don't ignore your civic duty.

Personally, I am not a single issue voter. I encourage everyone to think broadly when choosing. That said, remember that Becerra supports RTO, Steyer is supportive of telework, and Hilton wants to start a Cal Doge program. Yes there are other choices, but personally, I consider them a wasted opportunity at this point.

Bottom line, vote like your job, compensation, and country depend on it.

Can I handle a new job?

I feel like my brain and body are almost incapable of remembering anything much less getting through a day without a nap. My boss said something (minor) but it made me angry nonetheless. I have had a pretty cushy job for the past couple of years, but now I am ready for something new. I found the job I want and started my application today. However, just trying to remember and organize my experience feels overwhelming. This is mid/upper level management position for an established but complex program. I just turned 60, no health issues and no hormone replacement (my doctor advised against it). Am I crazy to think I can do this?

Has anyone here had DBS at UCSF? We don't live close by and wondering what hotel to stay that is close to the hospital, plus any other UCSF specific info that would be helpful. Thanks
