Im the most comfortable being very average at many things.

Over the past couple years I have had countless jobs. Either they would bore me or give me extreme anxiety. It wasn't great but I never went without a job either. Nevertheless it was exhausting. After almost flunking out of high-school, and multiple failed attempts at college, I was so lost as to what im supposed to do with my life.

It was a struggle of what I felt I was expected to do, like going to college. Growing up, it was taught to us that you either you go to college or you will be stuck working at McDonald's.

What I truly wanted to do. I didn't know what exactly but I knew that I wanted to work with my hands in a creative way. ( we will come back to this.)

And finally, what I realistically needed to do to survive. If that ment jumping from job to job as long as I could keep a roof over my head I was ok.

Few months ago I lost my job at Walmart. I had surgery and apparently doctors notes are not an excuse for an absence. (Its a long story but at the end of the day im glad it happened). I found a job working at a local restaurant. Ive been there for the past 2 months or so now. Ive always loved the kitchen environment but ive always had bad experiences. Ive mostly worked in chain restaurants, but this place was legit fine dining. TOTALLY DIFFERENT EXPERIENCE! I got hired for prep work, but they quickly started to teach me other stations. It was because of this ive started to feel I found the perfect place for me. Working all over this kitchen. Being the ultimate set of extra hands.

Being very average at many things.

For a long time I thought you needed to be really good at one or a few things to be successful. This place showed my thats not true. Its a great feeling.

I just landed my first fine dining job. What is a piece of advice you have for someone thats moving up from chain restaurants?

I just got the call about an hour ago that I got the job that ive been wanting for the past year. Im on wet bar. To be honest its not the station I wanted but im in the door.

Im coming from working retail for the past few years but ive worked at places like applebees and outback with the best being a catering company. While im super excited and confident, there is still this feeling of the unknown. I finally get to work in a "real" kitchen lol.

Sorry for the ramble im just excited. Thank you all for any help.

What are some silly things that remind you of childhood?

I know these straws arnt anything special but every time I see one I instantly think of the 7-11 by my childhood home, and summer slurpies.

Im in desperate need of a new mattress but im moving soon and won't be taking it with me, any suggestions in the meantime?

For a little context, right now I live in a small studio apartment and have a twin sized bed that is laying on the floor because the frame broke. It's been like that for a couple months now. Its so flat that its very hard to get a good night's sleep. I'll be moving to a much bigger apartment with a roommate in february and will be given a full sized as a gift. But in the meantime, I need some sort of solution. Mattress toppers are almost as expensive as a new mattress lol.

Also the full is ready and waiting but it won't fit in my current place.

Im looking for suggestions for a safe, yet competitive fitness goal.

Like the title says im looking for something to work toward. Since the new year I have been keeping up with my resolution for the most part. I definitely feel a big difference compared to this time last year. I have made progress and thats all I care about. However, im losing motivation. I still work out but I can tell im not giving 100%. Then it clicked, I need a goal. Not just wieght, mental clarity, or overall health milestones. I need competition, rivalry. Silly or serious doesn't matter lol. I just dont know what I should do given health concerns. I used to do marital arts up till I was diagnosed in high-school, and friends have suggested liftingMost I ever do now is run. I miss that competitive part of it all, but I still want to be cautious. Haven't had a siezure in a couple years, stable enough to drive. I work a physical job so all in all this is the best shape ive been in since before I was diagnosed haha.

So, I want that feeling back.

I know health and fitness questions are asked on here all the time. For good reason though this community is great. Sorry for being a bit long winded.

Thank you. Much love.

The idea of sponsored housing that provides everything.

I know this is a wierd subject for this sub, but hear me out. Im surprised that a system of government housing that provides an apartment, all utilities, food, transportation, internet, and phone. Nothing nice but you have it. Paid for by an automatic deduction from your pay. Its dystopian sure, and im not surprised in a good way, just given what's been going on in this world ya know. However alot of people could use that level of security. Yes im aware of section 8 and food stamps and rent vouchers, I was raised on that system. What im saying an all in one government takes a percentage of pay or whatever and your set. Problem is I see it turning into just a government funded labor storage.

I live in the US. Im assuming other countries have options similar to this without the ultimately dark outcome.

Hope for the best. Plan for the worst.
