ASK: I'm (33F) taking my 75(f) year old next door neighbor for her very FIRST pedicure. What can I do to make her afternoon unforgettable.

I was flabbergasted when she told me she'd never had one before. I'll be taking her to Bonjour Nails in Green Lake next week. Planning to call them and ask them to make it extra special - I'm getting her the top option that includes a glass of wine (which she'll love lol). I will also be picking her up from her volunteer gig - so ride is covered.

I thought about bringing her to Retreat after for coffee & dessert or bringing her flowers and a coffee before. Or I could find a salon who could do a lil cut & styling or a blowout type situation - basically just make her feel pampered and pretty. Or all of the above. :)

I will add that this saint of a woman is VERY active and able. She is a dog walker for I think 4 dogs most days, walks 20 blocks twice a day to volunteer as a crossing guard, volunteers at a food bank and women's clinic - she's a retired nurse, almost all of the major concert halls/venues around town. You can also find her at protests, especially for women's rights, dating back to her teens. She truly is an icon for women all over. The first time I saw her after we bought our house she was in her yard gardening in a tie dye George Floyd tee shirt. I was like 'hell yeah I'm going to like this neighbor'

I view her as somewhat of a pseudo grandma - I lost both of mine when I was 14. We've lived next to her for 6 years, I rent her garage and know her whole family. She is widowed now but my husband and I spent the whole week prior to his (death with dignity) death with her husband & her (and got to listen to so many cool stories from back in the day). We text a lot, go gardening shopping together, etc. So she's special to us is what I'm saying.

Do you have any other ideas of things I could do or places I could take her, free or paid? Preferably north Seattle.

Thank you!

What color rug should I get? Bed frame in 2nd photo…rug cannot be cream or white

Was planning on doing darkish orange/terracotta OR mustard yellow velvet curtains

There will be a dark rust colored oversized chair on the right side corner and the bed will be on the left.

Thank you!!

How should I decorate the toilet area in my already very vibrant bathroom? Also the shower will not be red 💚

The toilet sits directly behind the wallpaper wall with the vanity. The dresser will have a piece of white marble on top with two white ribbed vessel sinks. This is all unrelated I just wanna set the vibe for you.

The angled wall behind the toilet starts at maybe 5-5.5ft high. Should I add paneling? A built in shelf type thing?

I don’t have anymore wallpaper.

Also shower will be the green tile I included. The shower is currently red with a waterproofing layer.

Also what color rugs? I’d love to avoid white rugs.

Thank you!!

Looking for reddit that can provide me with educational information about kidney stone surgery.

Hi, this is an unusual request.

I had kidney stone surgery under general anesthesia last Friday (17th). In 2017 I was raped while I was unconscious, and not knowing what happened to my body during surgery has been hard for me. It has left me feeling a mix of emotions and fears.

I’m looking for any educational videos or resources medical students use that show how a kidney stone procedure is set up, how the patient is positioned, who is present, etcetera.

Not looking for anything graphic or unethical, just trying to understand what actually happens. Thank you.

Day +159 and feeling like she did pre-diagnosis!

Wanted to give an update on my mom (63) with MDS. She did end up in the hospital in May with a brain bleed but they were able to stop it. She will likely have to go to a specialist at Mayo to figure out what caused the brain bleed. But other than those few days in the hospital, she’s been doing relatively well!

She is riding her Harley, going on 10+ mile (e) bike rides, finally officially retired after 39 years of being a CNS/RN. She wears her mask anytime she goes out-like going for walks, watching my niece’s softball games where she’s in her own camping chair, etc. I feel like she’s finally loving life again.

She is down to once every other week for a check in with her dr.

Sending everyone in this sub healing vibes, strength and all the hugs. ❤️

Surrogacy not an option, feeling weirdly sad

I have never wanted children growing up. I’m now 33 and have been married 3 years (been with husband 7 years). We’re homeowners, have traveled all over.

we talked about this on the first date because I didn’t want to date someone that wanted kids. My husband was on board.

As we’ve gotten older and all of our friends are popping out kids, naturally we’ve revisited this subject a few times.

We’ve talked about fostering or adopting but recently I’ve been looking into surrogacy and feel like that could be an option. I have bipolar and will not go off my meds in order to be pregnant.

I’m feeling weirdly sad about it because I still don’t know how I even feel about having kids. We could technically afford it but it is obviously a huge chunk of money. I know my husband would be absolutely amazing as a dad.

Update: sorry I wasn’t clear - sad about that route not being an option because to me that is the best option. We’d still be able to have our own child.

Scared of doing veneer on a dining table with leaves

I started refinishing this table and have it fully sanded down. The photo is not the current condition.

I have a full roll (4x8) of cherry veneer but the table has leaves in it and I don’t know which order to do the steps nor do I know which tools to use.

I really want to finish this table and would appreciate any advice! If anyone in the Seattle area is interested in helping me, I would be so so appreciate.

What color quartz countertop would look best in this laundry room?

The washer is a forest green color and the cabinet color is called moonshine - the best way I can describe it is a creamy white with a green undertone to it.

Adding a photo of the sink we got as well!

QUESTION: would a wood shelf on the left side of the cabinets that connects at the bottom of the cabinets and connects to the window? I would put a plant there. The shelf would not stick out further from the back wall than the cabinets.

Which wallpaper should I choose for my bedroom?

Also included a photo of our bed frame and a mockup of what the room looks like. I think I want the wainscoting and rest of the walls/ceiling to be a deep dark teal color. Thoughts?

Photo 1: Orange florals or photo 2: blue birds?

Pitty tripawd climbing onto a bag of clean clothes to use it as a bed 🤦🏼‍♀️

Check out her little nub still moving as if she was using the leg.

She had her leg amputated on Feb 23, developed a major hematoma that ruptured and required a second surgery. She basically has cost the same as a new car but at least she’s cancer free!

A couple weeks after her second surgery healed she seemed weird and had a hard belly. She had over 1400ml of fluid drained from her pericardial sac and abdomen over the course of three days and two nights at the emergency hospital. She was checked again and she has minimal fluid present in the sac so she is doing much better!

She may be pricey but she is the biggest love and best dog I’ve ever had. So much love to give 🤍

Day +114 in the nuero ICU with brain bleed

My mom had her BMT on Feb 4 and is currently +114. She had been doing great, going for walks, riding her bicycle 10+ miles at a time. She was down to just two or three days a week at the clinic.

Since her last bone marrow biopsy (maybe a month ago) she’s had headaches everyday. This week it got so bad and she was puking so she ended up going to ER. There is a CSF leak somewhere in her brain. They have done multiple MRIs and CT scans and they show nothing. They are doing another thoracic CT scan.

Has anyone experienced anything like this?

She had a relatively ‘easy’ transplant compared to what I’ve read on here and she said this is so much worse than anything this far.

Any help is appreciated. On a happier note, she’s up to 83% donor blood!

Had all wisdom teeth pulled 4/22 but my jaw is still in immense pain - Is it possible that a muscle was torn?

Hi! I got all four wisdom teeth pulled on 4/22. I was diagnosed with TMJ when I was maybe 12 and am 33 now. Back when I was diagnosed I wore a mouth retainer that realigned my jaw for several years and went to regular OT & PT. I did the exercises and used the tools (tennis balls in socks under the neck). By the time I entered high school I didn’t have any issues and since have only had a few times where I ‘needed’ to massage my jaw muscles.

When I got my wisdom teeth pulled I mentioned to the surgeon that I had TMJ and was worried about having my mouth open that long because I had recently went to the reg dentist and it hurt after a few minutes. They assured me I would be fine. Immediately after the surgery I was obviously swollen all over but had a distinct area that felt like it had a squishy contained bump that both hurts continuously while doing nothing, and then is exaggerated pain when I move my mouth/jaw in anyway. It feels like my jaw keeps sliding off to the left which also causes a sharp shooting pain. I’ve had headaches nearly daily in/with the same location and have been taking more ibuprofen than I would like. Lastly, it might just be the location but at times it almost feels like my inner ear hurts like an ear infection. I do smoke and since the surgery (I stopped for awhile after) it hurts to move my jaw in the way you do to hold up a joint. It is so incredibly sensitive to touch and sleeping on that side of my head (ugh side sleeper) hurts.

Is this the TMJ acting up? I can’t do the massages I learned back in the day because it is so sensitive, heck I can’t even touch it. Is it possible to tear a muscle in your jaw like you can tear your ACL? The bump is still there but noticeably smaller. I thought with it getting smaller that the pain would subside but it’s honestly as bad or worse than the day of surgery. Probably worse because of how often the sharp sudden pain happens.

I actually got an appointment today to see the surgeon tomorrow but I am not sure if I should be looking for a different specialist?

Any help would be appreciated. I am so sick of being in constant pain.
