[Too Much?] New Titan Edge ₹3.5L - 40mm x 5.7mm mechanical watch

India made an ultra-thin in-house mechanical watch. Why is nobody talking about it?

40mm titanium case and bracelet, 5.7mm thick, hand-wound in-house mechanical movement, rotating disc display.

Too expensive? priced right? when is it going on sale? will they offer discounts on it? Who normally buys these expensive ones from Titan?

🔴 Looking for the best possible Red Dial HMT 🔴

Not specific to any particular model. Just the dial feels need to alive. Can be refinished/painted. Just not looking for a boring red kohinoor sunburst red dial.

[Opinion Needed] Naoya Hida: Where does it sit among serious independents?

Would love to hear from anyone who has handled one, owns one, or seriously considered one. What is the real story with Naoya Hida?

The moonphase, the perpetual calendar and some of the newer engraved dial pieces look genuinely beautiful to me. Vintage proportions, engraved dials, good design language, etc. The whole watch feels thoughtful.

I also get the criticism. It is not really a movement-first independent like Journe, MB&F, Kari, Rexhep, etc. It also does not feel like a normal microbrand. Maybe it’s more a Japanese design / craft object than a movement proposition.

Also there is very little owner feedback out there. I have had Chrono24 alerts set for over a year and barely anything comes up. Could be because production is tiny, owners do not flip, collectors are screened well, or demand is smaller than it looks.

The Zenith double-signed piece is interesting, but I am more curious about the normal Naoya Hida pieces, especially the 3B moonphase and 6A perpetual.

For people who have handled them in person, what does not come through in photos?

For people who passed, what stopped you?

Been going down the red dial rabbit hole lately. What are your favorite red dial watches?

Would be great to categorize choices in three buckets so it helps others:
Budget pick, under $1,000
Enthusiast pick, $1,000 to $5,000
No-budget / grail pick

Posting a few examples I like. Would love to see what you guys like.

Help picking a proper watch for a teenager that isn’t Casio / Timex / Seiko 5

Trying to think through a watch gift for a teenage boy around 16.

I don’t want to do the usual Casio / Timex / Seiko 5 answer. Nothing wrong with those, but I want this to feel a little more considered. At the same time, I’m also not trying to give a teenager an Omega, Tudor, Rolex, etc. Not looking for a “luxury gift,” just a proper watch that feels special and can actually be worn.

Also not really looking for microbrand rabbit holes. More interested in established brands / watches that a teenager might realistically enjoy and not just something adult watch nerds think is cool.

Some watches I’ve been thinking about:

- Seiko Alpinist / Mini Turtle type options
- Hamilton Khaki Field Mechanical 36 / 38
- Hamilton Pilot Pioneer Mechanical
- Sinn 556
- Nomos Club Campus 36
- Hanhart Preventor HD12
- maybe something pilot / field watch style like Archimedes Pilot 36

Question is: what do teenage kids actually wear and enjoy outside of Apple Watch, G-Shock, and basic Seiko 5?

I don’t want to project my own collector taste onto him and pick something that sounds good on paper but just sits in a drawer. Would rather hear from people who have gifted watches to teenagers, received one around that age, or remember what actually felt cool then.

What would you recommend?

Brother, 55, using CPAP only 2 to 3 hrs/night. Memory and brain fog getting worse. Anyone seen this improve with better CPAP use?

Trying to help my older brother prepare for a neurology appointment.

He is 55. Over the last year, and more noticeably the last 2 months, he has had worsening memory issues: forgetting names, struggling to connect paragraphs while reading, going blank seconds after reading/speaking, and sometimes struggling with familiar faces/names.

He has sleep apnea and was prescribed CPAP, but he usually keeps it on only 2 to 3 hours, then sleeps the rest of the night without it. Total sleep is around 5 to 6 hours. He wakes twice nightly to urinate.

Just trying to understand from people with sleep issues:

* Did brain fog/memory improve after full-night CPAP use?

* How long did it take?

* What helped you stop removing the mask after a few hours?

* Any specific data we should ask his sleep doctor to review? AHI, leaks, pressure, etc.

He is seeing doctors, but I want to help him ask better questions.

Helping my 55-year-old brother: poor sleep, CPAP only part of night, worsening memory. What sleep changes helped you most?

Trying to help my older brother prepare for a neurology appointment.

Not asking for a diagnosis.

For those who had poor sleep plus brain fog/memory issues, what made the biggest difference?

More total sleep?

Full-night CPAP?

Earlier bedtime?

Mask changes?

Treating nocturia?

Sleep routine changes?

Can 5 to 6 hours of broken sleep cause serious memory/brain fog issues? Helping my older brother.

My older brother is 55 and has been dealing with worsening memory/brain fog.
His sleep is consistently poor: about 5 to 6 hours total, wakes twice to urinate, and uses CPAP for sleep apnea only 2 to 3 hours before removing it.

Memory symptoms have worsened over the past year, especially the last 2 months: forgetting names, blanking after reading/speaking, trouble connecting paragraphs, and difficulty with familiar faces/names.

For people with chronic insomnia or fragmented sleep:

Did your memory/reading comprehension get this bad?

Did it improve after fixing sleep?

What actually helped you extend sleep or stop waking up so much?

[Curious] Naoya Hida - from an FPJ Alumni - are they just riding on the indie coattails?

Would love to hear from anyone who has handled one, owns one, or seriously considered one. What’s the real story?

Been going down the Naoya Hida rabbit hole recently and I’m trying to understand why the brand is not talked about.

The moonphase, the perpetual calendar, and some of the newer engraved dial pieces look genuinely beautiful to me. Vintage proportions, hand engraved dials, restrained design language, low production, etc. It feels very thoughtful.

But there seems to be very little owner feedback out there. I’ve had Chrono24 alerts set for over a year and nothing ever comes up. I saw maybe one listing for a day or two and that’s about it. Maybe their low resale visibility is because production is tiny, collectors are screened well, owners just don’t flip, or demand is actually smaller than it looks. They have produced less than 500 pieces since 2019 including special edition releases.

The Zenith double-signed piece and past Revolution collaboration do give the brand some extra credibility in my mind, but I’m still trying to place it. Is Naoya Hida above the usual Japanese micro/indie conversation? Closer to something like Hajime Asaoka? Or is it more of a beautifully photographed niche brand with limited real-world traction?

I’m not treating The Armoury retail relationship or Armoury’s special edition pieces as some huge prestige stamp. I’ve had mixed experiences with retail through them before.

[Question] Watch for a Teenager - Recommendations/Personal Experience

Question: For a teenage boy around 16, outside of Apple Watch, G-Shock, Timex, and basic Seiko 5, what do teenagers actually enjoy wearing? I don’t want to project adult collector taste onto a kid but also something that he appreciates/uses during high school and also as he gets older. I’m trying to avoid the usual Casio / Timex / Seiko 5 recommendation, but also not looking at Omega, Tudor, Rolex, etc.

Basically: something nicer than the obvious starter watches, but not something ridiculous or flashy for a teenager.

A few I’ve been thinking about:
Seiko Alpinist / Mini Turtle type options
Hamilton KFM 36 / 38
Hamilton KFA 38 Black Titanium
Nomos Club Campus 36
Archimede Pilot 36
Sinn 556 rs
Sinn U50 - blacked out version
Hanhart Preventor D12

Would love to hear personal experience. What worked, what didn’t, and what kind of watches younger guys actually connected with?

u/Bison1807 — 13 days ago

Is Ming just Movado for microbrand guys with better cameras?

This is probably a dumb take and I’m ready to be corrected, but I genuinely don’t get Ming yet.

Everytime I see one, the photos are stupidly good. The lighting, the lume shots, the floating marker thing, etc. They photograph the watch like some object from a luxury car interior.

But then when I step back and look at the actual design language, Movado and Ming visually both hit that same “minimal graphic dial with lots of negative space” part of my brain.

What am I missing?

Is we place it against other indie brands, not in terms of money, more in terms of what the brand is really about:

NOMOS feels more Bauhaus/design + proper movement credibility.

Baltic feels like vintage-inspired charm and approachable design.

anOrdain feels more actual dial craft, especially enamel.

Kurono feels more like graphic Japanese design.

Christopher Ward feels more mechanical novelty/value focused.

Naoya Hida is about engraved dials, vintage proportion and hand craft.

Movado is the obvious minimalist design object comparison, even if the watch nerd world treats it very differently.

Where does Ming actually sit? Are they just a photography-driven hype brand?

I’m not trying to hate on it. I just feel like I either haven’t seen the right one in person or I’m missing the thing that makes people really love them.

Spring Drive is just a better marketed Quartz watch

Spring Drive and U.F.A. are not mechanical watch innovations. They are quartz watch innovations where instead of using a battery or solar, they are powered by a mechanical mainspring. Meaning, they added extra gears and components and make it sound like a mechanical watch.

There is no mechanical escapement, which is actually what makes a mechanical watch. The actual challenge that matters in a mechanical watch is how the escapement, balance, and hairspring control the release of power from the mainspring to measure seconds, minutes, and hours accurately. Spring Drive replaces those with a quartz oscillator, a software programmed chip, and EM brake regulating the glide wheel.

The escapement, balance, hairspring: none of this exists in a quartz watch, aka Spring Drive and the upgraded software and chip design Spring Drive - U.F.A.
Spring Drive keeps the least interesting part of any mechanical watch - gears and mainsprings. Then replaces the brain of the mechanical watch, the actual thing that matters, with a quartz chip and an embedded software program.

Citizen’s Caliber 0100 is a far better quartz innovation than Spring Drive. Citizen achieves ±1 second per year versus U.F.A. at ±20 seconds per year.
A deadbeat seconds complication in a mechanical watch is far better and more challenging innovation than the gliding seconds hand of a quartz watch.

On the finishing side, Grand Seiko is mostly online mythology and macro photography. The Birch looks like a white dial watch from 2ft on your wrist. “Zaratsu” polishing, people act like other $5k to $10k watches do not finish their cases or hour markers well. They all do it at that price range. Others actually have far better bracelets, lugs, and tapering.
