When the last Sikh Maharaja of Punjab, Maharaja Duleep Singh, was exiled from Lahore to England by the British, he was detained for one night at Bassian Kothi, near Raikot in the Ludhiana district of Punjab. That night, on 31 December 1849, became the last night of Maharaja Duleep Singh in Punjab.
