A quote on love from A Man Called Ove by Fredrik Backman

“Loving someone is like moving into a house,” Sonja used to say. “At first you fall in love with all the new things amazed every morning that all this belongs to you, as if fearing that someone would suddenly come rushing in through the door to explain that a terrible mistake had been made, you weren’t actually supposed to live in a wonderful place like this. Then over the years the walls become weathered, the wood splinters here and there, and you start to love that house not so much because of all its perfection, but rather for its imperfections. You get to know all the nooks and crannies. How to avoid getting the key caught in the lock when it’s cold outside. Which of the floorboards flex slightly when one steps on them or exactly how to open the wardrobe doors without them creaking. These are the little secrets that make it your home.”

I absolutely love this passage for this book. It sums up love for me.

Weird dms from men

Hey my fellow nail paglus,

Thus is a question for those members who regularly post their manicure photos on the sub for discussions, etc.

I've recently started sharing my photos too, and every time I make a post on this sub, I get atleast 3 to 5 guys dming me to be 'friends'.

Does this happen to you guys too?

I mean if you liked the nails, can you just comment the compliment on the post and not send a dm??

I feel any female dominated sub like that for nails, makeup or skincare there are men creeping about looking to find their next 'friend'. And honestly it's exhausting, why can't we just have a space for people truly interested in these topics without having to worry about creeps?

And let's be real dming someone that theor nails are pretty and let's be friends or the lipstick you're wearing is amazing and the lip shape is so good, on an anonymous platform is creepy. Point blank.

Is there anyway the moderators for the sub can tale action?

Let me know of your experiences too.

Helpful guide to a simple skincare routine

Hey ladies and gents of this sub,

26 year old female here with oily combination skin with a little scarring, acne and little pigmentation.
I love skincare. Not in love to have tons of products, but love my skincare time and my personal time to turn on some music or show and chillax!

I've been into skincare since I was 16.

I've do follow a lot of influencers and dermatologists on Instagram and have followed their recommendations. Tried the 10 step Korean skincare routine and all the fads and expensive products. And through all this what I have learnt is that all the influencers are going to call every single product a holy grail product and have you feed into this massive consumerism into an over saturated market. Sometimes I feel like even the dermats on the gram are just pushing for certain products, in clinic treatments and starting their own brands.

Over the years I've tried a few products that I love and now just stick to those. I may buy the one odd product which is highly recommended, but only after the product I am currently using is finished.
I've realised that I am a skincare enthusiast and not an influencer that I need every single product from every single line and brand and its going to change my life.

Sharing a simple routine and a few tips that work for me. I am an oily combination skin girly with acne, acne scarring and little pigmentation, living in hot, humid Mumbai, working a job that has me standing on site in the peak heat.

Day routine

  1. Face wash
  2. Toner
  3. Serum
  4. Sunscreen (which doubles as my moisturiser) (oily skin people, people living in hot and humid climates need to moisturise smartly, using a moisturiser and sunscreen usually has people sweating their face out in minutes)

Night routine

  1. Face wash
  2. Toner
  3. Serum
  4. Eye cream
  5. Tretinoin
  6. Face oil
  7. Moisturiser

Some tips that help me maintain my skin:

  1. Drinking water. Loads of it. I have realised that the days I drink water intentionally (1 glass every 60-90 mins) my skin seems brighter and my lips are hydrated even after my lip balm has been wiped out.

  2. Tretinoin. This product is meant for a little mature skin. This product peels the top layer of the skin. This is the only product which has worked for me to reduce my scarring and pits on my face. (any teenagers reading this, babe, please don't touch this product till you're 25, use only if a dermat asks you to)

  3. Using a sheet mask once a week is more than enough.

  4. A mud mask once or twice a week is perfect.

  5. Oily skin needs hydration too!!! Maybe not heavy lotions and creams, but nice light hydrating toners, serums and gel moisturisers and sunscreens.

  6. I do use besan and milk mask once in a while.

  7. Days when I have worn a lot of make up and my skin just feel heavy, I just use a moisturiser at night. Let my skin relax a bit.

  8. Double cleanse!!! This is so important.

  9. Miceller water is not a replacement for facewash. Facewash has to be used after miceller water.

This was a long post!!

If you've reached till the end of this post, thank you so much and please do share your skincare tips, recommendations and learnings in the comments.

Hope this helps!!

Ghar Soaps Organic Wax Power Review

Hey ladies and gents of this sub,

I'm a hairy girl who spends around Rs. 3000 a month on waxing (full hands, full legs, underarms and full bikini wax)

A friend recommended this product to me a while back. I bought it just in case of an emergency if I need to attend an event and I'm in the middle of my wax cycle.

I finally used the product today. The product has 100 grams.

I used the whole box and it covered my full legs, just the triangle of my bikini area, my stomach and chest. I had around two months of proper growth.

I have attached a photo of the directions.

  1. The smell. It's has a strong pungent smell that really lingers. My parents were so nauseous when they entered my room.

  2. Full legs, the triangle area of my bikini, stomach, and chest, took around 1 hour to apply, dry off, wash it off and bathe, and clean up my room and bathroom.

  3. Some hair were not removed from the root, and they were just broken off in the middle of the shaft. So you're left with shorter hair.

  4. How shaving or waxing removes all the hair. It's not the case with this product. There are a few patches left.

  5. Thicker hair like the bikini area doesn't come off from the root. It breaks it the hair in the middle of the shalft.

  6. The directions say to mix the product with water till it becomes flowly. Ideal having it in a paste like consistency helps more with getting the hair out. Maybe flowy consistency works for a less hairy person, but coming from a human bear, paste is a better consistency to work with.

  7. My skin doesn't feel as smooth as it does usually after waxing.

  8. I would not use this product again. I'll be sticking to waxing. In a pinch or an emergency shaving is better.

  9. Also the clean up! What a hassle. The smell is so bad. The whole time I was thinking, yeh kya jhanjhat pal rakha hai maine. Easier to just be naked in front of my parlour didi and let her just rip all my hair out.

I have seen this new product Kekka foam thingy, I might buy it and try it out and post the review.

If you have thin hair and are fine with pungent smells, maybe in a pinch, personally I'm not buying this product ever again.

Do recommend your best hair removal methods.

Hope it helps!!

I love these gel nails I got done for my friend's wedding in November. The pearl ends are so nice. The pearls lasted for 1 month and the nails lasted for 2 months.
