Do you prefer the Donner Cut or the Theatrical Cut of Superman II?

And give your reasons, too. When I was first looking into the movies, I always got the impression that the Donner Cut was the superior version. Later, I noticed that a good amount of people still prefer the Theatrical Cut. The biggest point of contention I notice with people is the ending of either respective film.

Would you rather have the Rock's DCEU or the current DCU?

The Rock's DCEU would seemingly be Black Adam-centered, probably with a movie where he'd fight (and maybe defeat) Cavil's Superman. We'd get that Batgirl movie with Michael Keaton, and we'd likely see the Sasha Calle Supergirl return.

I hate circlejerk subs that lost the plot

To put into context I do not hate all circlejerk subs like most do on reddit now, Marvelcomiccirclejerk and DCcomicirclejerk are still fantastic but the ones I have listed have lost the fucking plot.

Gamingcirclejerk is the most infamous now, originally started as a parody of /r/gaming they have unironically turned into the very Gamers they claim to hate. The UI of the entire place is out of date too since they now love Hideo Kojima, and even defend Steam outright unironically now when the original idea was you make fun of kojima fanboys and steam fanboys. Now the same karma farmers who werent banned by the literal authoritarian mods karma farm faux progressive gaming memes all day.

Whenever you call them out they go "ERM ITS A CIRCLEJERK??? LET US POST THE SAME TWITTER CHUDS WE CLAIM TO HATE BECAUSE"

There have been rumors that GCJ was taken over by tankie mods who barely care for the place but it as nothing but propaganda for their goals.

Anime/starwars circlejerk people who have been so brainrotted by a culture war they go into a tizzy over anything. Animecirclejerk is mostly shounen discourse over the same 3 shows, and Star Wars circlejerk will call you a chud for even expressing a mild distaste of the sequels

To me this subs all say they arent fans but in reality they are some of the most embarrassing fanboys to ever exist at this point and only retreat to these subs and use progressive shields to defend their god awful attitudes

I actually met Star Wars Theory

I saw Star Wars Theory at a grocery store in Los Angeles yesterday. I told him how cool it was to meet him in person, but I didn’t want to be a douche and bother him and ask him for photos or anything.

He said, “Oh, like you’re doing now?”

I was taken aback, and all I could say was “Huh?” but he kept cutting me off and going “huh? huh? huh?” and closing his hand shut in front of my face. I walked away and continued with my shopping, and I heard him chuckle as I walked off. When I came to pay for my stuff up front I saw him trying to walk out the doors with like fifteen Milky Ways in his hands without paying.

The girl at the counter was very nice about it and professional, and was like “Sir, you need to pay for those first.” At first he kept pretending to be tired and not hear her, but eventually turned back around and brought them to the counter.

When she took one of the bars and started scanning it multiple times, he stopped her and told her to scan them each individually “to prevent any electrical infetterence,” and then turned around and winked at me. I don’t even think that’s a word. After she scanned each bar and put them in a bag and started to say the price, he kept interrupting her by yawning really loudly.

On the basis, that Episode VIII The Last Jedi acts as a commentary on the cosmos being a tough love means of truth, does the sensual & sexual charisma of the film's visual direction function so as to exonerate this cynicism if only on literary criticism grounds & not exactly philosophical grounds?

What a great ending to the saga. I hope this marks the end of the Star Wars film cycle for good.

We are shutting down the subreddit

Hi, over at the mod team we feel that everybody’s humor has become very cinematic. Because of that we think that it’s time for a break.

Thanks, from the r/okbuddycinephile mod team.

I made my own Biblical Canon / Order

I always found the order of books presented in the Bible to be rather odd, so I decided to make my own order of books that I think provides the best reading experience. I tried putting them in a sort of "chronological" order, having some of the oldest books come first, as well as books dealing with older events coming near the beginning as as well.

Hebrew Bible:

Torah:

  • Genesis
  • Exodus
  • Leviticus
  • Numbers
  • Deuteronomy

There's not really much wrong with the first five books of Moses, so I decided to keep it as it was.

History:

  • Joshua
  • Judges
  • Samuel [1-2]
  • Kings [1-2]

For these four / six subsequent books, I decided to follow the Jewish ordering by not having Ruth appear in-between Judges and Samuel, especially since Ruth was written much later than books it was surrounded by (in the Christian canon).

Prophets:

  • Isaiah
  • Amos
  • Hosea
  • Micah
  • Jeremiah
    • Lamentations
  • Obadiah
  • Nahum
  • Habbakuk
  • Zephaniah
  • Ezekiel
  • Haggai
  • Zechariah
  • Joel
  • Jonah
  • Malachi

For the Prophets, I tried my best to fit them into chronological order from when they were written / took place. The first four prophetic books, Isaiah, Amos, Hosea, and Micah occur at around the same time that Israel fell to Assyria. I placed the "major" prophet, Isaiah, before the next three "minor" prophets. And I also know that Isaiah could be split into three different books that deal with different time periods, but I feel its best to just keep the Book of Isaiah in one piece.

The next five prophetic books, Jeremiah (+ Lamentations), Obadiah, Nahum, Habbakuk, and Zephaniah occur at around the same time that the Babylonian Exile took place. Like before, Jeremiah, the "major" prophet, precedes the "minor" prophets.

The remaining prophetic books, Ezekiel, Haggai, Zechariah, Joel, Jonah, and Malachi occur during the Persian Period, with Ezekiel being the "major" prophet. Though I believe Jonah technically places itself prior to the Babylonian Exile, it was still likely written during the Persian Period so I kept it there.

Writings:

  • Job
  • Ruth
  • Esther
  • Daniel (w/ additions)
  • Chronicles [1-2]
  • Ezra-Nehemiah

Many of these books were written within the same hundred-year time span, so I decided to rearrange them in a semi-chronological order. I decided to keep Daniel's additions since they're just fun and harmless tales (plus the >!Habbakuk !<cameo is nice). Esther, I feel, benefits more without the additions since I always liked its light-hearted tone and its lack of a mention of God. While I prefer the Jewish decision to have Chronicles be read after all of the Prophetic Books (as a sort of recap of Israel's history) I still decided to take inspiration from the Christians and put Ezra-Nehemiah after Chronicles since I feel it flows better as a continuation of sorts.

Apocrypha:

  • Enoch
  • Jubilees
  • Tobit
  • Judith (?)
  • Prayer of Manasseh
  • Baruch
  • Esdras [1-2]
  • Maccabees [1-4]

Like with the Writings, many of these books were written within the same hundred-year time span, so I also rearranged them in a semi-chronological order. Enoch is a pretty fun book (or books?), so it's here. Jubilees can serve as a recap of Genesis and Exodus. I haven't found a concrete answer on when Judith is supposed to take place, so it is where it is. I paired 1 and 2 Esdras together for consistency, same with 1, 2, 3, and 4 Maccabees.

Poetry & Wisdom:

  • Psalms
  • Proverbs
  • Ecclesiastes
  • Song of Songs
  • Wisdom of Solomon
  • Sirach

I put most of the Poetry and Wisdom texts at the end, as I personally prefer to read them separately from a full reading of the Bible.

New Testament:

Gospels:

  • Mark
  • Matthew
  • Luke-Acts
  • Thomas
  • John

I tried my best to put the Gospels in the order in which they were written, which is why Mark precedes Matthew. It's always annoyed me how we have John in-between Luke and Acts (since Luke and Acts are written by the same author) so I paired Luke and Acts together. The Gospel of Thomas is our earliest non-canonical Gospel, drawing much of its material from the Synoptics, which is why I placed it after all of the Synoptics. Lastly, we have John.

Pauline Epistles:

  • 1 Thessalonians
  • Philippians
  • Philemon
  • Galations
  • Corinthians [1-2]
  • Romans

These are the "undisputed seven" letters of Paul, arranged in the order in which they were probably written.

Pusedo-Pauline Epistles:

  • Colossians
  • Ephesians
  • Timothy [1-2]
  • Titus
  • 2 Thessalonians

Epistles that may or may not have been written by Paul. I didn't feel the need to excise them entirely due to the impact they've had. 2 Thessalonians closes out the Psuedo-Pauline Epistles, just as 1 Thessalonians opens the Pauline Epistles.

General Epistles:

  • Hebrews
  • James
  • Peter [1-2]
  • John [1-3]
  • Jude

Not much to say here, other than that the Enoch reference in Jude makes a little more sense, having seemingly read Enoch before this.

Revelation:

  • Revelation

And to cap off, we have the Revelation of John, the grand finale to the entire Bible (at least if you read the New Testament).

I just put this together for fun. If you guys have any reading order that you have or prefer, please let me know. I'd like to hear them.

Is it time we give them another shot?

Now guys hear me out.

JJ seems to be aware of the criticism he received for his movies and some of it wasn't even his fault because of the time constraints forced upon him by Disney. And Rian is just kind of good, really. He probably wouldn't be working with legacy characters much so the fanbase shouldn't hate him too hard again.

Let me know what you guys think!

The Sequels Make Me Sad

Near unlimited potential, several galaxies worth of creativity within the Star Wars universe, Rey, Finn, Poe, Hux, Ben, all could’ve been unbelievably phenomenal characters with such great actors behind them, zero blame to them, they did fantastic with what they were given, the dynamic between Kylo Ren and Hux was completely wasted, unlike Tarkin and Vader which felt like two titans of fear, one side the cruel bureaucracy of the Empire in Tarkin, and the other side it’s raw power in Vader, whereas Hux and Kylo felt like children both vying for the attention of the same parent, Hux could’ve been an unreal character from how he was introduced in the Force Awakens, yet he was reduced to a joke and then…a Spy…the man who ordered the evisceration of Billions…was a Spy for the good guys.

They wanted to make money so badly that they completely disregarded a formulated plan for the Sequel Trilogy, leaving it jumbled and near senseless, there are ofc aspects that are enjoyable but the majority is just ‘what the fuck am I watching?’ The Prequels had there fair share of problems ofc, but every second of them is still enjoyable to me, yes even the Anakin/Padme romance in AOTC, I love everything about Star Wars and it just feels like the last appearance of the Original Trio was completely wasted, I think they shouldn’t have gone forward but backwards, the gold mine they’d have with an Old Republic Era Trilogy but they just wanted to milk the Skywalker name.

I know this is probably a dead topic, I don’t come on this sub much, but man it just makes me so sad, so much talent and creativity wasted because of greed and carelessness, Andor gives me hope, and Mando and Grogu was fun, not every Star Wars movie has to fit into the Trilogy or some big plot, sometimes it’s okay for a Movie to just be an adventure, though I do understand peoples criticism of it being just a long Mando Episode, I don’t have big hopes for that Ryan Gosling Star Wars movie that I have a feeling will be cancelled.

Star Wars needs passion, any art does, without it, it isn’t art, it’s a product.

Sorry for the long rant, thanks to whoever read through this whole thing, I think maybe I just miss how I felt when I first went to see the Force Awakens, fuck those were happy times, now everything’s grim, maybe I just grew up but I just miss it

What is the most impressive edit you've seen?

I'm talking in terms of added effects, compositing, sound design, etc.

It doesn't have to be the best, the most impressive

What if Marcia Lucas got assassinated by a Star Wars fan that truely despises her toxicity instead passed away by metastatic cancer?

I was wondering about what are your thoughts if there was an alternated history showed instead of Marcia Lucas passed away by metastatic cancer. What if she got assassinated by a Star Wars fan that supported all the Star Wars movies and couldn't stand her running her mouth and spew toxicity talking bad about George Lucas and the rest of the movies like the sniper took out her life for example. How do you think if this alternated history would be like if she did get assassinated in this scenario since this era was considered to be Assassination Culture happens to most individuals like Brian Thompson, Charlie Kirk, Melissa Hortman, etc. had lost their lives by assassins for example.?
