How I made an autoscroller that DOESN'T suck.

Basically

  1. Challenge

  2. Keeping it short with checkpoints

  3. Giving some control to the player

How can I find my game's target audience?

I'm making a 2D platformer (yes, I know it's an oversaturated genre) with a focus on bright colors, charm, secrets, and light RPG elements. I want to create a bright and cheerful experience filled with soul, in a genre filled with plenty of dark and depressing games, with muted colors. I truly believe I have a target audience out there, but I'm struggling to reach it. I post videos to Reddit and devlogs to YouTube, but they don't gain much attention at all. Does anyone have any advice to reach my target audience?

My game's visuals have always felt incomplete or off, but I can't figure out why.

As a new player, I'm very happy I gave this game a chance.

I'm about a month into the game, currently on Inazuma, AR40, and I gotta say I'm really loving it. I'll be honest I only started because my crush plays the game (stupid reason I know). I initially was hesitant to play due to all the negativity surrounding the game and how everyone seems to think the other hoyo games are better (I'm a star rail player of 2 years), but I'm REALLY happy I gave the game a chance because I'm honestly falling in love with it, and having more fun than I was with Star Rail.

The story has been quite simple but I'm honestly loving the simplicity and I'm finding it quite easy to understand. I do prefer the early story of HSR but I'm very excited to see Fontaine and Sumeru since it's usually what I see pointed towards as the game's peak in the story. So far, my favorite characters are Zhongli and Childe. I'd love to catch up to Snezhnaya within a few patches.

I have yet to gain a limited 5*, due to me losing my 50/50 pulling for Sandrone, but I'm not struggling to get through the story or with exploration at all, and I really appreciate that. My current team is Noelle, Ororon, Xiangling, and Bennett.

THE MUSIC OH MY GOD THE MUSIC IT'S SO AMAZING.

The world is absolutely beautiful, especially Natlan, so I'm super excited to get there. I absolutely adore Natlan visually 😭.

My most wanted characters are Mualani and Furina.

Long story short, I'm very happy I picked up the game, and I'm happy I formed my own opinion instead of letting opinions on the Internet decide for me.

If anyone has any tips or advice or anything at all, feel free to let me know!

Wish of the Princess one year later

This is my first ever complete digital drawing, so I'm pretty proud! Wanted to draw one of my favorite moments in all of gaming.

Been working on my game's visuals this week, does it still look like a "mobile game cash grab?"

I need advice on polishing/gaining interest in my game.

I know it's a simple concept, and a platformer is in a very saturated market, but I feel like I'm reaching the point in quality where maybe people might start taking an interest if my game is cheap and provides a decent amount of content.

Squirrel Season Teaser - Very early in development, but I wanted to show off my passion project!

Critique my level design for Squirrel Season's 1-3. Any suggestions? Balancing? Would you play something like this?
