Excellent ‘average’ yoga class

Sometimes a class stands out for a unique approach, maybe for: targeting a part of the body really well, a great playlist, it can challenge you, learn a new skill, or many other possible reasons.

Other times you just want something simple that you don’t want to think about, and just gets you moving and ultimately feeling better.

This recent class by Jessica was definitely the latter. I had just finished a run and was barely motivated to stretch but knew I needed to. I didn’t want to browse through the library and thankfully this was near the top and saw in the description there was some focus on legs. Anyone who has even done about 5 yoga classes will probably be familiar with all the poses, so it’s very accessible. But beginner or experienced, I think almost anyone will enjoy this class. Perhaps slightly more lower body dominant which makes it good for runners, cyclists and the like, but still good total body.

If you’re looking for a fairly quick yoga class that doesn’t demand much but leaves you feeling far better than when you started, this is a great one.

What fitness trend do you wish would AF+ incorporate?

I know that ‘trend’ can denote associations with being a gimmick and often age poorly over time; however, sometimes something enters popular use as a trend, but proves to have staying power. In the early 90s for example, espresso based drinks were virtually a new thing for most in North America, but is now ubiquitous.

As it relates to fitness, is there a trend you’d like to see added to AF+? I’ll throw one of mine in the comments.

Husband joining hyrox mixed doubles with coworker (without telling me)

My husband of 14 years will be joining hyrox mixed doubles with his coworker in 3 months. He told me he was signing up but did not tell me he was signing up with his friend. He is very physically fit and so is his friend. I on the other hand love fitness but due to demands of motherhood (we have 3 kids ages 10,5, and 2) have not been exercising on a regular basis.

My issue is why he has not at the least told me that he was signing up with his coworker. I felt jealous and resentful for him taking on this new challenge with someone else when he knew that I would love to do it with him given enough time and encouragement. He is a great father to our kids, and i know 100% he is not cheating but i just feel that he has no regards for my feelings. I brought this up to him on many occasions but he refused to back out because he doesn't want to disappoint her after he committed to joining.

Am i being irrational? I am becoming very depressed lately, have contemplated leaving work (we work in the same place) because i feel like people will be talking behind our backs. I feel like a loser for my husband not choosing me. Am i over reacting?

I feel like hyrox is really just half of the issue. I felt a lot of resentment with him starting another hobby while im on the sidelines drowning with all the responsibilities of motherhood. We have since reconciled, we went out on dates a couple of times but i feel like its just a band aid and consolation prize for me agreeing for them to do it.

When has a workout being purged ever really disappointed you?

Seeing the other post about treadmill recommendations reminded me of this class which I posted about previously

https://www.reddit.com/r/AppleFitnessPlus/s/4rpn2Mfahf

The music and instructor vibes were great in this class, but it made it really irreplaceable since there’s no other class formatted like it. It’s really a massive loss if you ever wanted a long run in mostly steady state.

Another one that comes to mind was a class with Josh I posted about at the time which was 10/10 for music and Josh’s energy. It also put the harder work earlier in the workout which was completely unique. It was probably going to be an all time great if not the fact it was purged within a few weeks.

Anyone else experience the loss of a class that you feel was irreplaceable?

ISO Super Breathable Men’s XL Cap

Most running caps seem to be one size and those are nowhere close to fitting me. Even when adjustable, it sits way too high on my head. I see that Lululemon does offer two sizes with one being L/XL, but I have my doubts.

For context, I wear the size 7 7/8 for profit New Era baseball hats. As the title says, I also would like a very breathable cap. Any recommendations?

Gregg practically MIA for 30 minute upper body the last couple years

I know he took a leave during this period, but I still feel it’s a weird imbalance having him leading only two 30 minute upper body workouts in two years.

I know I can be ultra specific, but I don’t enjoy stacking classes and I only ever do 30 minute lower and upper body when it’s strength classes.

It’s probably just dumb luck since he’s still very active, but I’ve definitely been missing getting new upper body workouts with him.

Easily One Of My Favourite Strength Workouts, and The Most I’ve Ever Seen a Backup Trainer Into the Music

I’m pretty sure I posted this one awhile ago, but it really is one the best strength workouts. I love workouts with repeating sets of the same lift before moving on.

But the music is also so good. I love that they went with a sub genre of Trance music. With that in mind, Bakari is REALLY feeling playlist throughout. I’ve repeated this workout several times and each time I catch another moment where he gets into it. You can tell it’s taking him back to some previous moment.

One good reason of many to make this one your next upper body workout.

Runna and Strava Annual Membership Discount Unavailable When Already Subscribed To Strava?

I started my annual membership with Strava less than a month ago. Barely a week later a two week Runna promo came up so I tried it and would now like to add it.

They offer a pretty good rate for a combined annual membership. I was looking to see if I could update my subscription to combine the two, but I’m not seeing anything. On the browser there’s even a link, but once I click, there’s nothing there.

I get that there’s already been a one-time payment for the annual Strava subscription, but are there really no options to have any sort of value to add the Runna subscription? Could be anything: pro rating the annual subscription, discounting the monthly subscription, or something else.

If not, I feel that’s very poor service for subscribers. It’s all owned by Strava and it’s very much in their ability to do so. But if I’m missing something, let me know.

Three weeks into using Runna: it’s been great, but is it any different from generating a running plan from any AI app and simply programming it into a watch?

I received a two week free Runna trial. I’m on week three, so paying for at least a month. I feel the programs and tempos have been quite accurate in finding the sweet spot for being challenging but doable. I’ve also loved having the audio pace alerts which is not a feature I’ve used before.

And this is more a reflection of my ignorance until now, but I didn’t know Apple Watch has had pace alerts (including audio) built into the workout app. And though I had never programmed a workout before, I wasn’t surprised you can create your own segments.

So it brings me back to the question in the title: can I effectively get the Runna experience simply by providing my 10 km time, goals and availability in an AI app, and then create those runs in the Apple workout app? It’s nice that Runna takes care of this and integrates it, but it also doesn’t seem very arduous either. But perhaps I’m overlooking something.

Unrelated question, but: does Runna adjust your workouts if your performance changes over time?

Worth Going On A Day Like Today?

Rain forecasted throughout the day, but we’d been planning on attending today for a while. I’m wondering if small crowds (and lines) offset dealing with the weather. Are the rides still enjoyable when it’s raining?

Classes with Easter Eggs

There’s countless classes where the theme is stated, but have you ever seen a class where there’s a theme or even unspoken reference in some part of the class?

I can see at times that AF+ will ensure to include Canadian music artists, including less known ones, probably in mostly for their Canadian users, but also to not ruffle feathers with Canadian content laws.

Jenn and Kyle have a few classes with stated Canadian playlists, but this workout playlist with Molly had both Glenn Lewis and Jacksoul. On top of the fact both Kyle and Jenn were the backup trainers in it. It seemed like a subtle nod to Canadian content without outright stating it. Jacksoul especially stood out since I don’t think they broke out outside of Canada at all. Really good class and overall playlist too btw.

Canadian content aside, has anyone else ever seen an Easter egg in another class?

Great lower body workout with Jenn with advanced core move in the middle

I hope I’m not reposting a workout I’ve shared previously because I have repeated this one a few times now.

There aren’t many available, but I enjoy lower body workouts with just one heavy dumbbell since I like goblet squats and lunges. I also enjoy the other lifts like curtsy lunges with one heavy dumbbell since it challenges your balance and alignment.

I don’t often look for strength classes with core moves, but this one had one of the most challenging holds I’ve done in AF+. I was basically a side plank but with the lower leg off the ground rather than the top, which for me, is much harder. I think it was for Scott too as he looked so red in a couple shots I thought his face was about to explode (as I’m sure mine was too).

Fun playlist too.
