Would a caster be easier for kids?

I’m tired of untangling.. I’m not sure how they end up getting the line tangled all over their rod and reel, but they always somehow manage to. I don’t mind fixing it but whenever you’re in 90 degree weather, it can get tedious.

I personally prefer spinning but I was thinking maybe the button for casting might be easier than flipping the bail (after setting the tension for them obviously)

Thoughts?

Edit: I’m referencing a baitcaster, not the ones made for kids

Rod/Reel Upgrade Advice

Hi there,

As i’m progressing in my early fishing career, my tackle box is filling and I’m starting to feel the need for an upgrade.

My 6’6 Daiwa samurai has done me well and I have it paired with a reel I took off of my Father’s Day gift (Pulsino combo/amazon special) since it was much better made/larger.

Ive been starting to strictly fish bass with the exception of panfish when I need a confidence boost or when the kiddo or lady comes along. I’ve noticed with the larger bass that the rod could use more umph.

Would you recommend going with a rod only upgrade? I was thinking a medium power 7’

Or getting another rod/reel combo?

I’ve been looking at a few options at Dick’s and Cabela’s and I’d like to stay in the ~$75 range to hopefully get a decent upgrade. Any recommendations here?

Is my hook setting the issue?

Newbie here.

Ive caught dozens of panfish but recently, I’ve been on mission to catch my first decent sized bass. I’ve probably had 2-3 times where I’ve felt the fish on the hook but in the process of reeling it in, i lose em. The one I had yesterday felt huge and I lost it. It’s still hurting me today.

Watching IG videos, I’ve noticed some of these guys have violent hook sets, which is nothing like mine.

When I feel the hook on the fish, am I quickly pulling the rod (vertically), then holding the rod in that position as I’m reeling in as fast as possible?

I’m using a wacky rig if that helps.

I think my kid caught their first bass before me

I’m devastated.

Been fishing for hours trying to catch that first bass while the kiddo was playing. I gave up for the day but they wanted a few casts before we headed home.

3 casts later, they start reeling something up and I was so psyched when I saw what it was. Unbelievable..

I get it now.. Fishing isn’t about catching the fish

Fishing newbie here - went out for the first time yesterday and while I can’t tell you the amount of lures I lost, sticks, weeds, and snags I caught, (and fish I didn’t catch), but I was really caught off guard with how serene, peaceful, and beautiful it is out there by the water.

I was raw dogging it yesterday with only a rod, pliers, and a few other lures but next time, I’ll make sure I bring a couple drinks, way more lures, and bug spray. I’m super stoked to go again today, but even if I don’t catch anything, it seemed like that’s the cherry on top anyways

TLDR for Day 1 Fishing

Outside of RDR2, I have never been fishing and no one has ever taught me. So gearing up for my midlife crisis, I’ve been really wanting to get into fishing.

After a handful of insightful posts and YouTube videos, I think I’ve gotten an overall grasp on how to proceed but I’m just tired of the fluff and commentary of a lot of the videos. I’m looking for a condensed, almost bullet point steps, of what I need/want on my first day out. Here’s what I got:

Fishing license

Cheap 7’ Fishing rod + reel (looks like fast action is the best all-around; noticed a few options on Amazon and marketplace)

Lures. I’ve noticed there to be a ton of endless options and varieties; is my best bet here to go with a $10-$15 lure box from Amazon?

Pliers

Net?

And once I’m onsite, is it as easy as attaching the lure to the line then casting out?

Feather Location + Guitar Notes?

Im sure everyone is all caught up on the current timeline: we have the web locations, positions of the feather, and NW guitar. I was hoping someone with more knowledge on music or morse could help me out.

The clues are on telegraph poles which was a very popular way to send messages in the 1800s using morse code - probably american morse at the time.

On the roof of the upright guitar, we have seen 2 birds on the tiles. I suspect that these are used for the next clue: one tile is larger than the other and these would represent a dot and dash in Morse.

Is the music pointing us in the right direction?

Additionally, each web has 6 sections, similar to the 6 strings on a guitar. Using the feather locations on the web as reference, I’m getting the notes -

Black: A | G | B | A or D | A or D
Red: B | B | G

However the odd thing with 2 of the black feathers is they’re placed on the lines of the web, not necessarily in a section itself. Also, we have the different colored red ones as well.

Are the feathers placed on the lines representing different notes? Are the red feathers representing flat or sharp notes?

Some scales have 3 flat/sharp notes such as the B flat scale or A major scale and almost matches the notes given (B flat - C - D - E flat - F - G - A - B flat) or (A - B - C# - D - E - F# - G# - A) . Maybe we’re supposed to shoot the feathers in the correct scale order to unlock the next part of the clue or shoot the feathers that aren’t part of the scale. Finally, all the scales will have 8 notes for any major or minor scale.

(Does shooting any guitar in-game make a sound?)

I’m currently on a work trip and I unfortunately can’t verify. Maybe someone could chime in with additional info I missed or tell me how this could be stupid

100% completion without using a horse

With all the discussion on the best horse, I’m going to attempt a run with no horse at all.

Curious, has anyone tried it? Obviously, some missions require it but outside of that
