Everyone is ridiculously attractive in Not Fade Away

Hair, makeup, and wardrobe are 10/10 in this episode. Especially Mercedes McNab.

Low effort post, sorry.

Cordelia's commercial aired in Romania

This is from Angel:The Curse. Published in 2005. It's not that great tbh. But I thought this was a fun tidbit.

This moment didn't really land

I think it was supposed to be awkward in a funny way. But it's just awkward in an uncomfortable way. You don't really need three masturbation puns. The chemistry between the actors is not there either.

I do think by the time they get to the party the episode has improved.

S11 thoughts (best season!)

I've reread s11 probably 4 or 5 times. It's byfar my favorite comic book season.

Quick summary: San Francisco is attacked by a dragon and there is widespread destruction. The government rounds up supernaturals in the area and puts them in a concentration camp- Buffy, Willow and Spike included. Buffy and Willow ultimately agree to have their power siphoned in exchange for being released. Spike stays behind. With the help of Riley and Sam, they infiltrate the government's operation and get their power back. The prisoners are freed. The Scoobies go on the run from the government. They figure out the dragon attack was an inside job by Willow's boss, Johanna Wise. She summoned the dragon in order to absorb it's power. Johanna is defeated and dragon returns to his domain.

I like so much about this season. Everyone starts out in a good place, it's good to see everyone happy for once. Buffy and Spike are together and work in supernatural consulting. Dawn is happy and successful at Berkeley. Willow is consulting for the government and running a coven of witches. Xander spent the last couple of years recovering from PTSD, he seems to be working and doing fine. Giles is still in an adolescent's body, but he's developing his magical abilities. And Faith is proving to be one of the most well-adjusted characters.

The story is great. The comics would have been so much more popular if they were all like this season.

The one negative note I have is that Buffy is still a grappling with watching her friends move forward with their lives while she is still doing the same she has since she was 15. She's really been dealing with this off and on since season 6 of the show. And it will continue to be an issue in season 12. I think I would have rather seen her content for a little while.

Season 12 thoughts

Possibly very unpopular opinion: getting a chance to prevent Fray's dystopian 23rd century world was a good ending for the Buffyverse.

Giles had a renewed sense of purpose. Angel, Buffy, Spike and Faith got to fight an army of demons. Willow finally has a way to work towards improving the future. She's spent years knowing she'd ultimately be evil again. Illyria/Fred sacrificed her happiness with Angel for an unknown demon dimension. Dawn's portal opening skills were critical. Even Andrew's tech contributed. And when Fray and co get back to their time they see the world has changed for the better.

As a Spuffy shipper I wasn't too upset about the breakup. I think that's really only logical. I'm glad they got a couple of good years together. And that they still have a strong friendship. I wish we knew more about the breakup but that really wasn't the point of the season.

A lot of people can't get past the art. And at some points, I'm right there with you. (Poor Harmony) It's jarring coming from season 11. Fray fans that anticipated this must have been disappointed. I'm not here to defend it.

I still think the story is still strong though. It ends on a hopefully note, with more work still to do.

TLDR: art bad, story ok

I can't find anything to read!

I think I've had my fill of Regency for now. I don't know if it's because I've read so many or because they've changed, but I haven't liked the last few I bought.

I wanted to get back into Western/Pioneer/Gold Rush/Frontier era novels. Those used to be my favorite. I like the fact that those women can be very independent and it can still be somewhat historically accurate. You can have a woman working in a saloon or cafe or maybe she inherited a farm or a she's a schoolteacher or something. Or maybe she shows up in a matrimony correspondence situation. Of course there are plenty of older ones but it doesn't seem like they're writing anything new from that era.

Where are the new Texas Destiny or Silver Lining or A Heart so Wild or Angel Creek or His Crown Jewel? Are people getting more into fantasy romance?

Spotlight Doyle review

Yesterday I posted a comic review and everyone loved it. The artwork was beloved and people were demanding more. Sadly this one has a different artist. I know the grief is insurmountable.

This story place after Doyle first receives the visions. Doyle was able to pass the visions through a kiss to Cordelia. How exactly the visions passed to him isn't explained in this one though.

Doyle starts getting visions after he turns down a request from someone in his demon clan.

He sees his friend Misty in trouble. He is able to find her based on the clues in vision but he was too late. He finds and fights the creature that killed Misty.

He gets a new vision of Tina in trouble. Doyle thinks he's not the hero type. So he searches for someone to help him. The PTB point him to Angel.

Spotlight Connor Review

This issue takes place after Connor gets his memories back but before Not Fade Away. The most obvious thing is this doesn't look like Connor. The other characters in this series aren't drawn this way, I don't know why they choose this look. But this was my favorite story of the five issues in the Spotlight series.

Connor talks to his parents (the Reillys) about a genealogy project. He walks across campus and discovers there has been a murder, the fifth one this month. Connor and his friend Myers are confronted by a group of bullies. Connor fights off the group single handedly.

Myers is in the know about vampires and demons. Connor confides in him that he is worried he has committed the murders in some sort of fugue state.

Connor investigates and figures out a corrupt cop was behind the murders. He beats up the cop and finishes his genealogy project. Connor watches Angel fight a group of vampires.

I fell in love with this weird series

I found a complete collection of The Vampire Slayer for sale. I haven't heard of it. I decided to keep my expectations low. But I kinda love it.

This is its own universe. It's not tied into the to the show or any other comics.

Buffy had some kind of major trauma. Willow tries to do a spell to help her forget. This backfires and Willow ends up the vampire slayer and Buffy has no memories of being the slayer at all. Giles and Willow are working on reversing it.

I'm only on issue 3. But Xander is a phlebotomist. Which is a job I did for 13 years. We get very little representation lol. Spike just showed up and saved him from a demon. I'm guessing Spike has a soul and he's going to end up dating Xander.

Merrick & the gym burning down

With the comics getting harder to find online, I wanted to screenshot some of my favorite parts and share them for those who don't want to invest in physical copies.

If you saw the original movie, there is nothing really new here. The only major thing they changed was Watchers reincarnating.

An ancient vampire called Lothos wants to know the identity and whereabouts of the new slayer. Lothos attempts to sire Merrick in order to get the information. Merrick takes his own life to prevent this. Buffy gets revenge by burning and staking Lothos at the school dance. This causes the gym to burn down.

This is purely based on how much I like them rather than qualities like selflessness, bravery, commitment, etc...

I'd give comic Faith an A and show Faith a C. So I averaged it out. Simone and Genevieve were probably the truly evil/psychopath Slayers, I was glad they were killed. Faith's London squad had a lot of drama but I wasn't ready to give them a D for it.

"He built this town for demons to feed on, and come graduation day, he's gettin' paid."

The 1899 founding of Sunnydale.

A Navajo Slayer is searching for the vampire that killed her Watcher, she finds her on the mouth of hell.

The title of the comic comes from the Navajo creation story. It is part of Tales of the Slayers. Written by David Fury, published in 2002.

Love Dares You

With the comics getting harder to find online I wanted to post some screenshots and summaries of some of my favorite arcs. I know they aren't everyone's thing. But I imagine someone is interested in seeing some them without hunting down physical copies/paying.

Love Dares You starts off with everyone in a bad place romantically.

Buffy tries speed dating in a San Francisco bar. Xander and Dawn try to go on a date, but Dawn decides they should remain friends. Willow doesn't fully trust Aluwyn. Giles, currently stuck in an adolescents body with his adult mind, is turned down flat by Oliva. Dowling hits a nerve when discussing Spike's love life.

Andrew finds a potion dealer at a coven party and turns into ideal self. He is able to fend off the demon Sculptor, and impress a warlock named Clive.

Spike goes to get information on Sculptor from the demon bar. This is the orgins Spike and Xander's cats.

Buffy and Dawn argue. Buffy leaves to go patrolling and sees Spike in the hallway. They fight some golems together and Buffy abruptly kisses him. Afraid of getting hurt or ruining their friendship, Spike tells Buffy he is unsure about getting back together with her. He throws her past in her face and the conversation predictably ends badly.

The Scoobies + Clive fight off the Sculptor and his golems. Andrew comes out as gay.

After the fight, Spike tells Buffy he is in love with her. They immediately return to Buffy's room, to the annoyance of Xander and Giles.

Spike has a surreal nightmare about killing a couple. The next day Dowling and Spike investigate the murder of the people Spike saw in his dream.

Spike tells Xander, Willow, and Giles about the dream. They try various spells to find out what's going on. Nothing works. Spike insists they not tell Buffy yet.

Andrew processes his insecurities and feelings for Clive.

Buffy walks in on the spell and Spike comes clean. Willow and Aluwyn break up. Buffy and Willow wonder if they should even date immortals in the first place.
