Raw honey for henna/indigo hair?

So for a bit of background, I’ve been looking into henna and indigo dyes for a little bit now, my hair is mid/dark brown, thick and fine, and wavy/curly. I have some greys starting to show which I want to cover. My hair reacts badly to bleach and chemical dyes so I don’t want to use them, and I love the fact henna/indigo is a completely natural dye!

I’ve bought a pack of 100g henna powder and 100g indigo powder from Pure Organics, and I’ve already mixed 50g of henna with diluted lemon juice and am leaving it to release the dye. I then plan on making 100g of the indigo dye tonight and using the mixed approach to get a dark brown colour (I’d quite like it to be a darker brown than my natural shade as I think it suits me!).

I’ve been researching more today, and made myself a little nervous that the henna/indigo will be too drying and impact my curl pattern (especially the indigo!) If I’d have known I would have ordered some amla powder too, but it’s too late.

Does anyone have any tips/experience for things I can add to make it more nourishing? I have some natural local raw honey, and am happy to buy anything you can get from a supermarket. Google has told me honey can work and bring moisture into the hair, also Greek yoghurt, oils? Or shall I just use the henna/indigo and hydrate my hair afterwards? Photos attached for reference, thanks :)

Lighten my henna ?

I used henna monthly for 1 year. Now it’s been 8 months henna free (growing it out) . I’ve only ever used pure henna. I want to lighten it to a strawberry blonde. Has anyone done this? How did your henna lift with bleach?

Thanks

henna and split dyed hair

I had henna on my hair for years until I grew it out. these days I have split dyed hair (bleached blonde/box dyed darker color, light brown atm) and I really miss having red hair and how healthy my hair was with henna, BUT I want to keep my blonde pieces. with box or professional red dye it always bleeds into the bleached section like crazy. do you think henna would be an option if I cover up the lighter sections really well during processing? my easiest available option is Cultivator's henna which I also used way back when mixed with lemon juice and cinnamon.

Most copper/orange henna?

I don’t like “wine”, “aubergine”, “blueish” red in my hair. Copper/brassy looks better on me ☺️ In your experience, what’s the most copper/brassy henna you know of? Or is it a myth that some are more copper than others?

Thank u all!!

What to add to henna or how to prepare it to make the mix easy to rinse off?

Hello

I have seen people on instagram use an electrical mixer in sidr mixes, it seems to emulsify ?

Have you tried?

Or do you know an trick that does not prevent the dye release? As it for coarse greys covering!

Thanks

Problem with Light Mountain

My order has been sitting in the warehouse for 5 days. This is highly unusual. I've been using this product for over a decade. I submitted a customer service ticket and haven't heard back. It was maybe 4 or 5 hours ago.

I'm a little worried about what that means for the company. This particular shade is not available on Amazon, although it does look like some other health food sites have it. I'm wondering if the company is struggling? I hope not. They've been around a long time and I've always had good results.

The cover gray product is henna and then a "botanical blend." Not sure what I'll replace it with if they're not going to make it anymore.

Henna cone recommendations

Hello! I’m new here. I’m very passionate with art and creative projects, last week during a cultural festival, i got henna drawn and immediately fell in love. Now i want to practise and draw it myself whenever i want to.
But the problem is i’m kinda lost on the material, i’m in China so i rely mostly on Chinese shopping platforms. So far, i’ve searched and notice a lot of people selling a brand called Kaveri, other than that is just the paste (just the powder and apparently i have to mix it water to apply), an example is the photo above. There’re several stores selling something they name ‘henna nail paint powder’, which is also powder but i see no brand, a lot of people got it and left reviews though (but they only used it dye their nails/exactly what the name suggested).
So can you recommend me some brands so i can see if i can find it on the platform, and if i should try and use the powder or the Kaveri henna cone? Any other pieces of advice for beginners are appreciated too! I’m very excited to try this out!

Henna Freckles

I have been an avid user of fake freckles for the past two years, and I am now wanting to switch to henna. What brand has natural, brown henna? I have heard of people getting contact dermatitis from bad henna and want to prevent that! I apologize if this has been asked before ❤️

What does a newbie need to know to color hair with henna?

First photo is my current virgin hair, second photo is a bonus of a red I did years ago (with my perfect baby boy Ron). I don’t expect the same red by any means, I’ve dyed my hair at home all sorts of colors but I’m allergic to those kinds of products now and I’m so bored with my natural color.

In my opinion one of the beauties of at-home dye jobs is that you can’t really predict what it’s going to look like in the end and from what I’ve seen on this sub it sounds like henna on hair varies quite a bit.

Can anyone recommend a good starter guide to using henna for hair? Or any tips and tricks you wish you knew before you used it for the first time?

I’d also love recommendations on cost-effective places to buy henna for hair, I’m in the US for reference!

TIA :)

Some of my henna body art

Wanted to share with you some of the henna I've done lately! It's crazy to think how much I've progressed since I started some three years ago, and that I've built enough confidence to adorn other people. That snake situation is probably my favourire piece to date.

It's definitely been a learning curve with figuring out the correct paste mix, how to roll cones (exploding carrot bags, anyone?), how to apply the henna and keep it from drying too quickly... It's been so much fun!

Paste is applied by me and mixed by me using Jamila henna, sugar, water and lavender essential oil.

Why do people put Vaseline on their hands before henna?

Why do people put Vaseline on their hands before henna? I’m unsure why people do this? Does this make the stain last? I’m an artist that’s been doing henna since jan and I’m lucky (alhamdulillah) that I have the talent and so I decided that I wanted to start a small business. I’m learning new things but this is a question that has irked me along with ‘spraying water sugar and lemon water on the hands after finishing a design.

Returning to henna after 28 years! Greys advice needed.

Hello, hope someone can help allay my confusion!
I am in the UK.

TL;dr Deep red is the desired colour. Want to ensure the greys are brown first, so that they don't turn orange with direct henna.

I used to have henna red hair as my trademark back in the late 90s and then unfortunately got brainwashed against it by hairdressers, and perhaps due to then undiagnosed neurodivergence didn't think to get out of the habit of chemical dyes until now, aged 48, perimenopausal and very little hair left!
In a bid to regain my earlier identity, late edition, I am excited to get back to a henna red habit. But I have a good number of greys, and the remnants of old medium brown box dye on the lengths.
I have an idea that maybe I could do the greys with henna and indigo mix to get them to medium brown before a whole head of henna red, but I see conflicting methods for returning greys to medium brown via henna and indigo in this sub.
Would applying indigo and henna mix on the greys followed by hennaing whole head red the next day be a feasible approach, anyone know? And will the faded chemical dye on the lengths cause any issues?

Many thanks for your patience with me on this!

(Edited to clarify I meant that the first step I am considering is a henna plus indigo mix just on the greys).

Henna safe for eyeliner and eyebrows?

Is there a henna brand that would be safe to use on both my eyebrows and to do a winged eyeliner as well? I can’t do mascara alone and will always use eyeliner. I want to get back into using lash clusters on a weekly basis and had the idea of using henna to create an eyeliner stain that I won’t have to wash off everyday like regular eyeliner.

I am fine with it being the natural brown henna color

Tips : Regular stylist to apply henna

Hi, I will be asking a regular stylist to apply henna to my hair (Rainbow Brand) since finding it difficult to apply it myself. It is about 20 mins away. Should I premix henna with warm water and salt and then take it in an insulated bag in a Pyrex glass container? I'm thinking maybe I will take a small portion and premix it at least for the first appointment since I'm not sure if the particular stylist may find henna messy or thick to apply so a small portion may be better. Has anyone done this before and any special things to mention to a stylist who may not regularly work with Henna or advice on whether to have them mix it there or premix it myself. I'm in US. Thanks.

Lush Henna review (just don't)

Hello fellow henna lovers!

I wanted to give a quick review on the new formula of the Lush rouge henna for those out there who might be considering it. I went through hell with this so, think twice before trying it!

Now, I used Lush once a few years ago and it was very good in coloring. However, I did not like how difficult it was to break up and heat.

I usually use Khadi now. But, lately the color started fading. So, I wanted to try something else.

I bought a lush brick, followed the instructions and immediately noticed h that it looks much more gritty than I remember. It was easier to break up and make into a paste, even though it was very gritty and had small parts that would not melt.

I applied it with much difficulty as it was much less smooth than Khadi and, left it for a few hours while ensuring my hair stays warm.

I spent more than an hour trying to take this thing out of my hair! I am not exaggerating! I know, henna can be hard to wash out, especially when we cannot use shampoo.

However, for all other brands, I was able to rinse 3-4 times with water and 1-2 times with conditioner and I was good to go.

With this new lush formula, I rinsed at least 10 times with water and 5 times with conditioner and just gave up. It is bearable but I can still feel gritty henna bits in my hair.

For anyone who wants to try it due to being something different, you've been warned. 🫠🥲

In a few days, I will update on the color change on my medium-dark brown hair.
