I bought and platinumed EC Rising years ago and thought it was a fun and easy going playthrough.
But i just finished platinuming Suikoden 1 and 2 HD and i absolutely loved the two games.
I obviously wanted to move onto Suikoden 3-5 but those games arent available on the PS5 or modern consoles. I then remembered EC 100 Heroes and saw it was only $20 so i immediately picked it up. How bad could it be right?
So is this game as good as Suikoden 1/2 if i loved those games? Are there any tips or things you wish you knew? Also i will probably try for the platinum but i heard its a crazy grind?
I cant believe it took me about 30 years to finally try these games and i enjoyed Suikoden 1/2 much much more than i thought.
Im currently playing Suikoden 2 for the first time and im absolutely loving the game. Ive seen many lists online saying Killey and Sheena are the best characters due to having strong attack stats and three open slots which makes complete sense.
But most are saying that Hai Yo is surprisingly the third strongest three rune character.
Im currently in the final dungeon and Hai Yos level is 57. Im almost positive i will beat the game without him even unlocking his third rune at level 65.
So why is he so well regarded when its almost impossible to truly min/max him without dedicated grinding/leveling? And on the flip side i loved his cooking mini games hah.
Also does anyone have any tips or strats on whack a mole hard difficulty on the ps5? 😓
So i finally sat down to play part 1 and i ended up beating it in two days at 19 hours, recruiting all 108 stars, as I just could not put the game down.
I keep hearing that part 1 is not as good as 2 so now im super excited and cant wait to start it!
Here are some things i loved, disliked, and found funny in part 1:
Loved the characters and story. The story and cast was super charming and it had me laughing in multiple places. I also did not expect as much death as there was. The pacing was excellent and the story beats just didnt stop. My final party was Tir, Viktor (who was my favorite character by far), Flik, Valeria for her op rune, Cleo who i also loved and could never leave behind, and Gremio who had terrible stats and i questioned why i took him hah.
Disliked the inventory management of so many characters. I got around this mostly by only using the main cast and Valeria and Kai so it wasnt so bad. But i probably didnt use 90% of the cast because i just didnt want to gear them up and upgrade their weapons which became insanely expensive.
I also didnt like pretty much no auto saves or saving on the world map.
Also going back to the castle just to teleport to a town was an unnecessary added step.
One thing i found funny was that the Imperial army became angels and floated to heaven when they died. I thought they would be going down below instead hah.
The duck quacks for errors was a bit strange and i found it funny that the dragons all made elephant sound effects too.
While i wish the remaster had more QOL features, i absolutely adored my time with part 1 and cant wait to start the sequel.
Also, is Euyuden Chronicles worth it if i enjoyed 1/2? Thanks.
The remaster of 1 and 2 added a much needed run button but i honestly cant think of any other QOL features they added.
The inventory system is still atrocious and they honestly made it worse because you cant compare others equipment.
And this might be the first rpg ive played in decades where you cant save on the world map. Not to mention they didnt even add auto saves or save anywhere functions. And no, auto saving only when theres a save point on the screen doesnt count.
Konami made amazing Metal Gear Solid remasters and the phenomenal MGS3 remake. The FOUR different Castlevania remasters were also done amazingly well with save anywhere functions, rewind features and hundreds and hundreds of bonus artwork.
This series deserved so much better than a barebones remaster port like this. Its not like Konami hasnt already proven they cant do remasters well.
Im about 75% through Dawn of Sorrow and the game has been great so far. I love the souls type system and hearing that sound when they fly towards you is a huge dopamine hit hah.
However, killing hundreds of medusas or running in and out of rooms for an hour, looking at you Peeping Eye and Creature, to get their souls is not engaging gameplay to me.
So do the next two games have systems that can be as tedious as soul collecting? Are the systems better or worse in PoR and OoE? Thanks.
SPOILERS!
I really enjoyed part 9 but i enjoyed Graces playstyle a lot more than Leons. And i loved the endings twist with Elvis. It really had me wondering through the whole game just what it was and the dual endings like this are definitely a great spin on the tried and true formula.
Im currently playing through Clair Obscur and i absolutely love the battle system. Many people keep comparing it to Legend of Dragoon and that the games timed presses are very similar to this game.
So i saw that this game is on the PSN network and was thinking of picking it up.
Is the game still worth a play today? Does its systems still hold up? Do you have any tips or things you wish you knew about this game since i would probably go for the platinum trophy too.
Im a huge jrpg fan and have been playing them since Dragon Warrior and Final Fantasy on the NES. Thanks.
I know that Dracky mode gives more xp/gold in part 1/2 but does it also increase it in part 3?
Im seeing conflicting information on this. Thanks.
I just finished part 1 and 2 HD and loved them. I immediately started part 3 but the more i read about it it seems like everyone is saying i played them in the wrong order.
I noticed right away that a few quality of life things are missing fron part 3 like marked chests and secret spots.
So did i shoot myself in the foot by playing 1/2 before 3? Will the story experience be greatly affected?
Im finally playing 2 HD, after already beating part 2 on the NES, GBC, and mobile, and just recruited Matilda.
What should the party order/line up be now? Gawain, Caradoc, Matilda then Peronel? Do the characters up front get attacked more or something? Or does the order not matter?
Also, after recruiting her the party members colors reminded me of Lufia party members colors. 😎
After reading this article i think its safe to assume we will be getting an extended ‘Donner’ cut of this film with multiple endings.
I always love watching extended versions with deleted scenes and different endings etc. 😎
Im building a zookeeper necro and have a dumb question on charms. Pretty much every build says to use the Bacon Lettuce Tomato as an amulet and the Red Blessing as a charm. But if i use the red blessing as an amulet and the BLT as a charm isnt that the same thing? Or am i missing something?
Also, i was humbled by my necros death the other day and realized i need to build more defensively. I masterworked every item slot to life so far. But what aspects are must haves, besides glynns anvil which i still dont have in paragon 200+?
Is it better to use the aspect for 20% more life or 30% more damage reduction etc? Thanks.
I see that Maxroll has four minion builds: warriors, mages, golems, and a combined zookeeper. Whats the best minion build out of the four and why? Im on hardcore if that matters.
Also does anyone else have any specific tips for the necro on hardcore? Is there anything i should be looking out for or use, like the endurant faith?
Thanks.
Every time i hit a dead end in a dungeon and run into a world event i immediately make a u-turn and leave. Or whenever i click a health pool right in front of a bosses door or click on a shrine, and an abush shows up, there’s no way im staying 1 minute for it. If a dungeon can take 5 minutes or less theres no way im spending 25% of that time or so on a world event with poor rewards.
In the past, when you used to summon the Blood Maiden in Helltides it would take 60 seconds for her to show up. However, when the new expansion dropped, Blizzard cut the time in half to 30 seconds and its shown to work just fine. Blizzards already cut time in places so theres no excuse for World Events as they are now.
I just finished maxing each activity at level 7 and I probably wont ever do this again for one character. Going from just level 6 to 7 in each takes 3000 xp and each activity gives you 125 xp. So on torment xii you would have to do 144 different activities just to go from level 6 to 7. Your build will be long complete and stomping torment xii once youre like level 3-4 in Warplans so there isnt much incentive to really max them. However, when you do max them all you do get a pretty cool basilisk mount.
My breakdown of each tree:
Whispers
The left tree is pretty decent to spawn enemies in helltides, nightmare dungeons or while waiting for legions or world bosses to start.
The middle tree is ok for extra xp. Mystery caches seem to be worse than chaos caches and gaining a resplendent spark is so rare to not even be worth it. I got one spark after hundreds of caches.
The right tree is pretty decent for random spawns. I love finishing a legion or world boss and seeing Varshan spawn in.
Nightmare dungeons
The left tree for the two free chests is excellent. More loot is always welcome and they give you quite a lot. The middle tree is usless to me as escalation dungeons arent done too often and gaining more of them is simple enough.
The right tree is pretty mediocre. The altars can be easily missed, especially if youre a warlock, and ive never found a goblin portal even once.
Helltides
The left tree is pretty excellent for additional spawns which equals more loot and tinders. The middle tree for maggots is one of the best nodes period in all the warplans and gives an insane amount of xp. The right tree is mediocre and the 666 chest is definitely not worth it. However, the rat node is surprisingly good as they are very common and give a decent amount of tinders.
Undercity
The left three nodes are one of the best and must haves as they guarantee mythics on torment x and up.
The middle tree is ok for passively gaining caches anywhere but theyre pretty rare. The merchant is excellent imo as he commonly sells royal gems for 50m and i always pick those up.
The right tree is ok for passive xp but the portal is a trap as when youre hunting for goblins for mythics you dont want to skip any pedestals.
Lair bosses
The left tree is great for an extra loot cache. You need a separate key to open it but it speeds up acquiring loot. Also in my testing the extra loot cache cannot spawn Belial or a nemesis portal. The helltide nodes on the left are also awesome as ive found gregiore knights to be pretty much a 100% spawn after opening a helltide chest. The middle tree is good but its also pretty rare. Ive only ever found nemesis lairs and i maxed the tree without ever seeing one of the other lairs even once. The right tree is pretty mediocre imo.
Infernal hordes
The left tree is kind of a trap as gaining 1000 souls is very hard unless you get lucky with chaos hordes or do 10 round activities which i never really did. The middle tree is great for extra chaos rounds imo. The right tree is horrible for the useless map wipe bell and the challenge.
The Pit
Left tree is excellent for progress nodes as it speeds up runs dramatically and for the stone that gives an extra glyph. Its annoying to always have to pick it up sometimes but its definitely worth it. The extra glpyh nod in the middle is pretty much a given as glyphs are ultimately your only goal in Pits. The middle tree is good for extra free xp but the butcher node is pretty much useless. Ive maxed the tree and got about 15 glyphs to over level 100 and only had him spawn once. Its like the resplendent spark node where the chances are so slow its almost useless. The right tree i found to be pretty bad as i was always super low on the currency to even buy anything and the items for sale seemed pretty bad.
The tldr is that Warplans are a good addition but they are pretty much never worth it to max on one character as the time investment is just way too much unless you want the unique mount. If Blizzard wants to keep the warplans for only one character then they should double the xp for the activities. Otherwise they should definitely be account wide, which I believe will happen one day.
EDIT: I also found the quickest way to finish a Helltide is to bee line for the blood maiden. On the way there kill all the rats and harbingers that pop up. I always found a ton of people spamming her and its easy to get 150 cinders. Then just open two of either chests of protection or chests of jewelry for 75 cinders each and you should be done in 5 minutes.
