Safest Tampons or Period Products?

I'm looking for the best/safest tampons that have an easy applicator, light/small size, and have the least chemicals in them! I cannot use cups or discs due to some health issues. Equivalently, other health issues impact my ability to use pads and period underwear (due to friction and pain). I am open to trying pads and period underwear if they make kinds that won't rub against my skin at all (0% friction!!). I know some period underwear might make boy shorts? I just need ones that aren't tight around the leg, but are still fitting enough to not cause leaks (I apologize if this is a big ask!)

I don't know a lot about period products because I've taken birth control continuously (now semi continuously) for the majority of my life, so that's why I'm asking for some advice!

Thank you!! :)

Gastrointestinal Distress Caused by A Severe Low?

Last night I accidentally dropped to 36. I felt absolutely horrible, and haven't been that low in probably 10+ years.

I ended up going to the hospital for a completely separate reason. Once I was back up, I ended up vomiting once, and then having the worst time in the bathroom. Couldn't stop going, ended up quickly becoming liquid. Hospital gave me reglan, Ativan, and benadryl alongside some fluids which helped me calm and the pain mostly subside. I also went a ton while I was there, and I am currently at home.

I have no food in my system yet, and I'm definitely pretty dehydrated. Have gone to the bathroom twice today, both still basically liquid except I have nothing to put out so I just sit there and almost nothing comes out.

Has anyone had this experience because of a low blood sugar? I did jump up to 300 afterwards, but they didn't deem it DKA, mainly because I had trace ketones and blood sugar came down with fluids and insulin.

I'm just terrified to eat and feeling like maybe I shouldn't have left the hospital? I just wanted to go home to sleep. :(

Ways to Make a Difference?

Hello everyone! I'm making this post because I very recently dealt with someone on this platform (not this sub) who made the typical "diabetes jokes" that we see pretty often. I made a statement saying it wasn't funny and educated on why, but non diabetics (especially on reddit threads) don't listen because they're set in their ways.

Well, it got me thinking, because ultimately my time spent dealing with that was in an attempt to make a difference. Even one person understanding that encouraging stigma against people with both T1D and T2D is harmful to us, and not doing it again, would be a win for me! My family members have always said I should be an advocate for people with these diseases (also lada, mody, and other forms which I'd love to further educate myself on).

Ultimately, my question is this: where can I make a big difference? Because I don't comment on most reddit comments that make these jokes. I know it's usually a waste of time, I just was super irritated at this one because it used death as well which isn't funny. So where can I make a difference instead? Are there in person advocacy programs where you can speak to large audiences? I'm really not sure what exists, but I'm tired of my only option being occasionally commenting on some uneducated joke that hasn't been funny ever and never will, in an attempt to make a difference.

I'd also love to hear other's experiences with advocacy or making a difference! I really do want to make a change for all diabetics out there. I've had it for 16 years and dealt with so many of these jokes, they're so harmful. I'd love to reduce the amount we see it through kindness and education!

Constantly Going High from Walking

So basically as the title says, walking has been making me go high (180-200+) every time I try to do it :,)

The goal of it has been to cause the opposite effect. I want it to LOWER my blood sugar. But instead, it's elevating it EVERY time.

I'm not sure if it's because I get hot, and hot temps raise my bg occasionally, or if it's because it's a long walk (20+ minutes up to an hour).

I just want some tips because I'm not used to exercising besides being at work for 6 hours 3 times a week, and want to be healthier! Plus the weather has been amazing, and walking makes my mental health feel great! :)

Omnipod Recall

I just started the new omnipod 5 last week. I've been slightly high due to being sick, but nothing crazy. Well I found out all 10 of my brand new omnipods (of which I have used 2) sent to me in the freaking STARTER kit are affected! They want me to send back the ones I haven't used (I put down 7 because I figured they'd send them fast enough that I'd only have to use 1 more). It says 8-10 business days!! And I feel like they aren't checking the LOTs they're sending out! So I'm gonna have to just keep using these and hope they work until I get new ones, which hopefully won't be impacted too!

Wth, how is this allowed?? There's been hundreds of people severely impacted by this, and now it's growing to thousands. And they just get away with it? Because they're nice enough to replace the faulty ones?? Why do diabetic medical companies not get held accountable!! Dexcom, Libre, and Insulet have had many issues for months now. Our FDA is freaking useless!!

Is this the new standard of care for diabetes? We're slipping backwards so fast.

Thanks for listening to my rant.

What Do I Do?

Dexcom is reading 339 double up arrows. Fingerstick is 194. I know fingerstick is accurate because I tested at 212 less than 30 minutes ago. I'm on the end of day 3. Thoughts?? :(

New to G7

Hi all, this is my first post and I'm looking for some hope here. (Also I'm T1D if that helps).

Long story short, after finding out the G6 was going to be discontinued (over a year ago), I jumped ship to the G7. Had a terrible time so I took a long CGM break before trying the Libre 3+. That was awful too so I took ANOTHER CGM break, and then went back to the Libre 3+ about a month ago. Saw new Endo a week ago and have on a brand new G7 10 day prescription.

I'm on the end of day 3, and I'm feeling hopeless. I'm seeing bad signs.

I keep running logs against my finger stick to see issues. I've had to calibrate 2-3 times because of how off it gets when I go low. I tend to go low, so it's not uncommon for my CGMs to hit 50-60's. But then my Dexcom gets stuck there. I check 15 minutes or more later, and I'm 140 or 150. I calibrate and wait. After 1-2 hours it eventually caught up one time after doing this. Well I did this a second time and it's reading 97 when I'm 193.

Why?? What am I doing wrong? I made sure to read proper insertion procedures prior to using this. I did the same with the Libre 3+. I don't over calibrate, and I don't calibrate too close to one another. I wait.

Is my body just not compatible with sensors? I have high levels of body inflammation, and I fear that between having very low body fat (so I'm prone to hitting nerves and muscles) and the inflammation, sensors just don't work for me anymore. The modern 90 degree angle designs don't do anything for me. I miss the G6. I miss when I could trust CGMs. I just feel so hopeless.

This was my last try, the G7. There's no other sensors. Please, I'm begging for help on this. I feel absolutely defeated. I don't want to be stuck doing finger sticks for the rest of my life, when I've worked so hard just for an A1C of 6.5% :(

Curious About Strep after Tonsillectomies

Hi all! I'm brand new here but currently suffering from what I assume is strep throat. Waiting on a culture, but I suppose it could be a nasty virus too!

What I wanted to ask is based on the community it seems like people have chronic tonsillitis or strep before having their tonsils removed. Afterwards, strep stops showing up (at least frequently).

Well, my experience has been different so I'm just curious to hear if anyone else has had a similar one!

I got mine out at 6 years old. I don't remember having strep before, but I was 6 so it most certainly could've happened.

Well, after getting them out, I went about 8 years in a row where every Autumn in school I would get strep. Rapid tests would always come back negative, and I'd ultimately get pulled out of school 1-2 days later when the throat culture inevitably came back positive. This went on into middle school and then stopped in high school.

When seeing a Dr yesterday, I was asked if I had tonsils when he looked at my throat. I said no, and he said he isn't likely to think strep then. I explained my medical history so they did the culture.

Is this weird? Or was my Dr just assuming incorrectly?

Just curious and wanted to hear other's thoughts on this!

Omnipod Discomfort

Hello! I just switched back to the Omnipod after 1 year on MDI, and another year previously on the TSlim using the trusteel sight.

I'm starting to realize why I switched off the Omnipod, and it's making me sad.

On the one hand, my TIR is 80-90%, and that feels great! I know the Omnipod is known for causing "burning" during boluses and that doesn't bother me too much since I know it isn't 24/7. I'm also on novolog, since I know people ask if it's lyumjev or fiasp (known for burning).

My issue is the pain/discomfort. For clarity, I'm extremely skinny. No fat at all (literally 0) on my legs and thighs. Use buttocks/hip for CGM currently since everywhere else isn't fatty enough, and I still struggle with it. Omnipod I prefer arms, but I barely have any fat there. Stomach is less fatty than arms, more than legs, but most sites there end up with extreme pain, gushing blood, and constant burning and poking sensations. My arms I can feel the canula in me at all times, and they hurt when pressed, or cause a strange sensation (pain but cold almost? I'm assuming I'm hitting nerves).

I just don't want to go back to MDI even though it's more comfortable for pain and sleep. My TIR was worse on shots, I never rotated enough and was developing lumps from insulin buildup, and hated injecting at work or in public. Bolusing with the pod is infinitely easier.

But I'm sitting here with a pod that's now 30 minutes old and it's burning/giving me that strange cold sensation. It's extremely uncomfortable. It's also hard not to hyperfixate on when it's this painful, or causing this much discomfort.

What can I do? I already barely know where to use my CGM, but now I'm struggling to use my pods. If leg is a no, stomach is a huge gamble, and arms are the best but STILL cause pain, where else is there? I weigh very little and this has been a constant struggle in the past few years (because of weight loss to where I am now, inability to gain it back).

Just looking for support, because I don't want this to fail me too :(

Basically my question is the title! My last two sensors have been decently accurate compared to in the past. In large part I believe it's due to finding a site location that works much better for me. My issue is they die around day 9/10.

Day 8 or 9 starts up with some issues like being 60 points off (always lower), so I miss some high blood sugars until I've been high for an hour or more. Then by day 10 it's up to 100 points off. I keep a running logbook in my notes! Today it was off by 60 points twice, and 100 points twice, conveniently while I was at work.

It had read 150 and then 236, and then 129 and 214 (higher numbers being fingerstick, lower being CGM). This was multiple hours apart. I was also having pain from the sensor which radiated out. That started late last night.

My theory is that because I have a lot of inflammation in my body (other health issues), the CGM filament gets attacked starting at this point. This is that immune response I believe (the reason why we can't have sites or sensors for more than a certain amount of days).

I very much want to try the Dexcom G7 10 day to see if my theory is right, but it may be up to a month (or more) before I can see if I'm able to get any.

I wanted to know if anyone else has had these issues, or has any tips? If it is my body attacking it, I'm not sure I can do much. But I just wanted to hear other people's experiences (since I can't keep getting replacements from freestyle).

Thanks for reading! :)
