Tomb Quest song (No spoilers(

Not a criticism, just something I noticed. The song that plays at the beginning sounds like "Big Wave" from Astrobot, which reminds me of the theme song from "Third Rock from the Sun." It's interesting how the same chord progression can be used so many different ways.

Let's pour one out for my poor exhausted husband /s

For context, I switched my work from home days to today and tomorrow because my son started school. We both woke up earlier than usual.

SO woke up early this morning and got son dressed, then he took a shower while I gave son breakfast and tried to encourage him to eat. We rode together to drop him off, after which SO played video games while I tried to get work done though my sleep-starved haze. We both picked up son, I was the one encouraging son to eat lunch, then SO told him to lie down before disappearing to play video games. I interrupted my work several times to remind son to lie down because even though he's definitely dropped his nap, something something united front, consistency.

Guess who's been complaining about being tired and having to watch son today? I don't have the energy for sympathy today

A little math lesson for those new to Murdle, plus additional tips

The mini Murdle already has some good tips, but it can be confusing. I know it took me a long time to get logic puzzles and how they work. So I'm taking you back to high school math.

Let's take a clue for example. "A metal weapon was carried by a left-handed person."

A=A, B=B, or a thing is itself. Sir Rulean=Knight or Blue eyes. The chainsaw=metal. You know that if the Duchess is the only left-handed suspect, the clue about a left-handed person must be referring to her. Same for the chainsaw. Duchess Vermilion has the chainsaw.

A does not = B. If Vermilion has the chainsaw, then Sir Rulean did not have the chainsaw.

C=D. The rug was at the cliffs.

If A=B and B does not equal C, A does not equal C. So now we look at what we know. If the Duchess has the chainsaw and the rug was at the cliffs, then the chainsaw was not at the cliffs and neither was Vermillion.

If either A=C or B=C, then A does not equal B. Either/or clues can give you a lot of information. If Vermilion was at the cliffs or the chainsaw was at the cliffs, then Vermillion did not have the chainsaw because of she did, they would both be true

Tips:

Always start with what you know. Put a check with the straightforward clues and an x in any other box that does not apply (or circles or different colors or dots, whatever your system is).

Think about what else the clue is telling you and what it rules out. If a left-handed person carried a weapon, what does that say about the right-handed person?

I always fill in my grid as I go. So if a clue gives me new information, I compare that to what I already have and what else it tells me.

Save either/or clues for the end. "Either Sir Rulean was at the docks or Sister Lapis was at the cliffs." will be more clear once you have more information about which weapon they had and the location of the weapons.

Statements: start by looking for contradictions. Does a statement directly contradict the grid? Or do two statements contradict each other?

Finally, I've found that with very few exceptions that if I've filled in a lot of the grid before getting to the suspects' statements, I've made a mistake somewhere and I need to recheck it.

I hope this helps!

Agdon and Bavlorna question

My players won the Agdon fight and made a deal with him where they gave him some trinkets in exchange for being taken to Bavlorna. Pretty sweet deal for Agdon, really.

Here's what I'm thinking, please tell me if this makes sense:

Since the character still has hold of Agdon's scarf, it would make sense for him to try to escape 3 times. If he succeeds, he gives back the trinkets and attempts to steal something valuable, letting him out of the deal. The characters come across Downfall first.

If he fails, the characters arrive at Bavlorna's study. Bav frees Agdon and the players find him in a cage later for getting himself caught and failing to provide something valuable for her. Bav offers the tasks as written.

Does this sound reasonable? Anything fun you would add?

Somewhere right now... is a family that needs to get off their butts

This is a cute book about using mindfulness to get through difficult emotions, but the ending bothers me so much. The father is painting, the kids are playing, and no one is bothering to clean up even though Mom is obviously busy working from home and supporting the family. But a backrub will make it all ok!

Toy Story 4 Hot Take

My kid is on a Toy Story kick so we watched all of them and I finally saw 4. I know people have a lot of opinions and I wanted to add my own.

Woody should not have been the one to convince Forky that he's a toy; it should have been the other way around.

TS1 is about Woody accepting that he can't be the only toy in Andy's life and that kids can have room in their heart for more than one toy.

TS2 is about family. Woody finds more toys like him and the prospector is bitter that he never had one.

TS3 is about growing up and moving on, realizing that change happens and can be a good thing. Woody learns to accept a new child. We can look at these 3 movies as stages of growing up: childhood to adult.

So then we get to TS4. Woody has found acceptance, but his jealousy is resurfacing as Jessie becomes sheriff instead of him and he gets left in the dusty closet. Bonnie creates Forky and immediately loves him.

This should be a bridge too far for Woody. At least Buzz and Jessie were created to be toys. But this new one is just a spork and junk. Forky is the one that believes he's a toy but Woody has had enough. Throughout the movie, Forky never stops believing that Bonnie will find him because she loves him so much. Woody has the arc of coming to see how much Bonnie loves him as a toy despite his appearance. And Gabby's ending can change to be accepted for who she is, which others have said before. The theme of the movie becomes belief in who you are.

I have an idea for a children's book

Obviously I need to write it, get the story down on paper. But then what? I can't draw, so I've thought about printing some public domain pictures and adding googly eyes and yarn for months(it's about a stomach and a brain). I don't really care about making money from it, I just want to share it and if people like it, then they like it.

Added a Goldilocks ghost adventure. I love this game!

If you want to see the adventure, let me know and I'll share the Google doc link.

I turned that house with the 3 yellow roofs on the Hither map into a horror Goldilocks adventure. Here are some details and how it turned out:

A ghost who was killed by a black unicorn possessed Goldilocks and made her do the things in the story to make the bears leave. This set up the idea that children can't be harmed in the Feywild, as his plan was to take her to Downfall.

He asked the players, a rogue and a cleric, to get the unicorn horn for him but he was also going mad and had periods where he just wanted to kill the players.

The cleric and the rogue had a great argument about whether to kill the ghost or get the horn for him. They ended up fighting, but immediately the rogue lost 40 years due to Horrifying Visage, so he's almost at the end of his life and has 24 hours until it becomes permanent.

They ended up persuading the ghost to stop fighting, took Goldie with them, and dropped her off with the bears, who hadn't gotten very far yet.

Now they're on their way to Downfall, where Trinket and Bauble's will have a unicorn horn, but of course they'll meet Agdon first, who will be pissed that the players killed so many of his Harengon.

Overall, it was a lot of fun and the Tasha's Cauldron book had some great tables for psychic resonance and ghost events.

Dropout cast members as DCC characters

I love Dropout and thought about who would be good:

AI: Grant O' Brien

Prepotente: Josh Ruben

Goblins on floors 1 and 10: Angela Giarratana, Erika Ishii

Louis: Jacob Wysocki

Mordecai: Brennan Lee Mulligan or Sam Reich

Carl: Lou Wilson or Ally Beardsley

Who would you cast?

Please tell me this doesn't look as bad as I think it does, or offer some constructive criticism

I created a haunted garden using mostly what I have: modeling clay (non-drying; oops!), some moss, cotton balls, and some glittery pine trees I found for a buck. The cotton is supposed to represent fog covering the tombstone. The occupants got scared away, so there are some flowers and some vegetables fighting against the overgrowth. What do you all think?

Edit: thank you, everyone! I got some great suggestions for next time (no time to implement them before the next session).

Character death

I saw a thread recently where a DM asked their players 3 questions about how they wanted to handle character death, but I can't remember what they were for the life of me. It was something like giving them the option to roll a new character, get captured, or get resurrected. Can someone help?

Help planning Downfall

My players are still several sessions away from Downfall (Nightmare on Telemy Hill, a homebrew encounter, and then the Brigand's Tollway), but I like to plan ahead.

The book mentions that if Agdon captures the players, they get put into Bavlorna's cages. How do I plan for what happens after? I'm guessing from what I've seen that there will be some argument among the players about whether they should try to get the unicorn horn from Downfall or explore Bavlorna's cottage. I'm going to let them know that one of the players feels a strong pull toward the cottage due to his lost thing, which I think might be enough motivation.

But how did you all run it? Did your players still meet the bullywug court and explore?

The Inn Supplement by GoofySpook is a blast

My players finished up the Inn last night and it was so much fun! I didn't go as far as to make Baba Yaga the villain, but I definitely made it clear that she's not someone to be crossed. Here are some highlights:

-Skylla and her party came in and the players had fun bantering with them. I used the suggestion to make them a rival party that are also after the unicorn horn, but the players don't know what the group is after yet.

-An elven bard gave them some coded answers through songs and chants, think the butterfly from The Last Unicorn.

-The lornlings came in but instead of fighting them, but the players wanted to track them back to Bavlorna. I tried to make it clear they got away because it jumped to a tree, but the players tried to trap it so in the interest of fun, I let them. I eventually had to tell them that if they really wanted to try to track it down to Bavlorna's hut, they would miss a lot and I would need to the the session in order to plan.

-I made it pretty clear that Tsu was Baba Yaga and they figured it out easily. I left clues about Tasha and Iggwilv being connected. They'll get more clues in the later realms because they don't have much knowledge of either and the surprise ending won't mean much.

-I gave our rogue a Hat of Disguise in the form of a witch hat and he turned himself into a shit demon trying to figure out what it was. I also gave them a wicker basket that's a portable hole, but they don't know that yet.

- They played dice with the satyrs, which was a fun mini game. One of the players stayed upstairs to play while the other two investigated the secret room, so two of the players roleplayed Vansel and Dawn Chorus.

Some other things I changed:

- Arga Sharga the goblin cook only served one meal, which was something fried and covered in brown gravy.

- A group of children playing a game that gave away Bavlorna's weakness.

-The Inn moves randomly through the realms.

Dammit, Pterry!

(I wasn't sure what to flair this, so please correct me if it's wrong).

Reading Lords and Ladies, it's mentioned that Granny Weatherwax has a silver cow creamer, very similar to one that appeared in "The Code of the Woosters" by PG Wodehouse.

Making ADHD friends

How do you make friends with other ADHDers in the real world? I'm slowly starting to unmask around certain people at work, but it's really hard for me to make friends. There's a YouTuber with a Discord, but it's $20/month that I don't have. I tried an app (I don't remember what it was called now) but since it could also be used for dating, my husband didn't like it (yeah I know, that's another problem entirely). I just want to find like minded people that I can infodump with. I don't even have Reddit friends.

Does anyone else pronounce the extra letters people add for emphasis? For example, there are a lot of Gollums out there. "She's so gorgeousssss!" "Her dressss!" "My precioussss!"

And I always pronounce the extra "e"s as a squeal. "It was insaneee" "I loveeee it."

People need to learn how to use their words to convey their emotion and let their words speak for themselves.
