ED New Grad Advice

I am a new grad that is in my Week 1 orientation. I am very excited for this job but also have an awareness that I'm in for a steep learning curve. My practicum in my last semester of school was inpatient psych on a lockdown unit and I feel behind other folks on hard skills/ED exposure because psych is so different from acute care.

So my question is for fellow ED new grads, do you have any resources you used for self study at home to make it all feel less daunting and fill in those gaps as much as possible? Or did you pick it up more on the job? I'd appreciate any resources for studying trauma, sepsis, stemi, ecg, stroke, codes, ED pharm, favorite channels from youtube university, places for case study review, etc. Or just any advice from your own experience of lessons or habits that stuck with you.

Thanks ❀️

Late to Million Dollar party

I finally was able to order Million Dollar and as excited as I was it smells like... warm plastic and mosquito spray. Anyone else get that plasticy bug repellent vibe from it? Its 100% not what I expected, and I'm trying to decide if I should let it grow on me or return/exchange.

What should I do with my stack lobe?

I am having second thoughts about the placement of my stack lobe. Has been healing since end of February, so pretty well established. I just can't shake that the placement looks off. I was thinking of getting an additional piercing to make a triangle (pic 2) or taking it out completely and repiercing so its staggered between the lobe piercings (pic 3). Is it too healed to close back up?

Tell me if I'm tripping you guys 😭

Off to a good start

About a month and a half ago I started my pan/no buy. No buy turns out to be more like low buy because ooo shiny smell good things. Anywho, I started with my already opened and half used stuff and I'm relatively shocked at my progress.

Started out with around 330 products. I have panned 31. So roughly 9% of the collection used up. Didn't expect to rewire my brain for so much dopamine every time I empty something but it feels so good.

These aren't photos of the entire collection, just the categories I had empties in.

Halfway Through 2026. 24/24 (Upping Goal)

I'm pretty surprised I was able to hit my reading goal this soon in the year, but I was really able to take advantage of some personal downtime. I feel like every book I complete is fueling the next one faster. Also have really enjoyed the majority of my reads this year.

Heart the Lover was the most emotionally impactful for me; I think Evelyn Hugo was the most fun read. I always love a good non-fic, and each is so unique it's hard to choose favorites.

5 years ago I wasn't reading more than a book or two a year and locked into a lot of wasted screen time. Each year I've surpassed my initial reading goals and taken on more books each subsequent year. I get so much joy from reinvigorating the childhood version of me that was inseparable from books. Upping the goal to 48 by the end of the year, so here's to getting on 24 more reads.

Edit: Just realized I messed up and left 3 books off of the chart, but I'm not going to remake the graphic. So I have also read Wuthering Heights (Neurons Rewired - the most recent movie adaptation was tripping narrative-wise, but I still shamelessly enjoyed it for what it was), The Penelopiad (Excellent Soup), and Blazing Eye Sees All (Deliciously Unwell).

Combining Lush Fragrances with other fragrance houses...

As someone who is fragrance obsessed, I am curious if other Lushies layer their Lush perfumes with fragrances they bought from other retailers/fragrance houses, and if you do, what are your combo favs/recs?

My wheels started turning on this because I was wanting an earthy strawberry scent for the shift from summer to fall. I've never tried American Cream and was torn between that and a bottle of Cape Heartache from Imaginary Authors. And then it dawned on me... girl, you can have both!

IBS and antibiotics

Prescribed antibiotics, infection didn't respond and now I'm on my second week-long course of higher strength antibiotics. I have suffered several gastrointestinal exorcisms at this point. My husband asked if I keep hearing the neighbor's car backfiring. No my sweet summer child, that is me backfiring. I may just camp out on the toilet because good lord. I'm shotgunning diarrhea like I drank the water out of a public toilet. Light a candle, say a prayer, send help. My tummy hurts and I feel dehydrated. This is not the weight loss plan I asked for. Every time I make it 2 weeks flare free I am reminded God has favorites and I've never been one of them.

Choosing to laugh or else I'd be crying. (Oh, who am I kidding I'm definitely crying.) I've reached the stage where I'm considering prayers to God, Buddha, Mother Nature, the Flying Spaghetti Monster, whoever is taking requests... one of you has to be on GI duty today.

Taking suggestions on nurturing your dysfunctional gut back from the brink of antibiotics induced hell.

Loving June Kitchen Box

I am so in love with this box! Also surprised by it because I'm more an earthy, woody gal than a fruity gal. But the citrus and pineapple absolutely sucked me in! I was also low key stressed because we've had 100+ degree days where I'm at and I was fully expecting semi melted messy product. Somehow this might be the most intact kitchen box I've ever received. Kudos for the soap and shower gummy being individually wrapped.

I'm most excited for the shampoo bar (its my first one and omg the smell is divine), the pineapple gummy (they seem to get mixed reviews here but I'm a huge fan) and the orange bath bomb. But overall 10s 10s 10s across the board. I love it all. This box is so fun.

As an added bonus, it inspired me to get fruit basket nails for summer and Pride month, so I included a photo of those too. πŸ“πŸπŸŠπŸ‹πŸ‰πŸ« Happy Kitchen unboxing, everyone! And Happy Pride! πŸ³οΈβ€πŸŒˆπŸ³οΈβ€βš§οΈ

Rest Up BB 😌

I had the pleasure of injuring my back aaaaaand getting my period (accompanied by notorious back cramps) this week. This bath bomb was such an amazing muscle relaxing soak, especially the cocoa butter core which must have menthol or eucalyptus or something in it? I didnt know it would be in there but rubbed it all over my back and legs and omg. Zen. Tingling pain relieving zen. Highly recommend and was a very pleasant happy little surprise. 🌿

Starting a pan/no-buy

I come to you in mild shock and shame, fellow panners 🫣😭 I’ve lurked here for a while and was finally inspired to tackle my own product accumulation. Over the past 2-3 years I went through a period of intense stress and life change, and definitely coped through a lot of little dopamine purchases. At the same time, I was surviving nursing school and dealing with depression so I never actually followed through on using most of these products up. Partially because of zero time and motivation to prioritize my self care.

Doing this inventory was honestly eye opening especially realizing how constantly I’m being sold products through social media and β€œself care” content. K Beauty, Curly Girl Method, Lush, dermatology youtubers, brand name influencers all got their teeth in me... here we are.

Current inventory:

- 33 face masks

- 20 bath salts/bubble bath products

- 41 bath bombs/bubble bars

- 20 soaps/shower gels

- 15 scrubs/massage bars

- 14 lotions/body creams

- 8 shampoos

- 8 conditioners

- 15 stylers/treatments

- 7 cleansers

- 9 moisturizers

- 8 sunscreens

- 13 makeup eye products

- 25 lip products

- 30 fragrances/perfumes/body sprays

- plus assorted oils, deodorants, hair removal products, and skincare extras (this doesn't include things I've given away or just thrown out)

After a little research, a conservative estimated retail value of roughly $2,000–2,500 πŸ˜…

I had already started working through my products a few months ago, but haven't saved my empties and hadn't laid it all out to really see the volume of products I still have left. My goal is to pan 90% of this by the end of the year and go on a replacement-only no buy where I don’t purchase anything unless I truly don’t already own something that fills that need. I think my hardest categories will definitely be hair stylers and makeup, mostly because I’m slowly accepting that I’m actually a pretty low maintenance/no or low makeup kind of person πŸ˜‚ I'm mildly concerned about the cosmetics because its all really old, I was planning on saving the lippies but tossing any open eye or skin products? The lipsticks don't smell off. Bacteria on my skin or eyes freaks me out though. I'm really inspired by this sub to actually use and enjoy the products I already own, while becoming more mindful about my purchasing habits and self care practices moving forward.

Weird Library Haul

My local library opened back up after a 2 year renovation so I snagged this stack for my May reads. I'm not sure if they are all weird girl reads, but I'm a weird girl who reads so...
