I've been screaming whenever I feel pressured or trapped since childhood. Can EMDR help me overcome this?

Hi everyone. Ever since I was a child, I've had a tendency to scream or yell at the top of my lungs whenever I feel trapped, cornered, or pressured.

I actually remember how this behavior developed. I'm naturally a very calm person. I love having gentle conversations, connecting with people, and communicating peacefully. I was the same way as a child, too. However, I grew up in a controlling and oppressive family environment, and over time, I learned to react this way when I felt pressured or overwhelmed.

As I got older and became better at expressing myself verbally, I gradually learned to communicate my feelings with words instead of reacting this way. For a long time, I thought I had mostly overcome this pattern. But recently, something happened that triggered me, and I found myself screaming again.

What upsets me the most is the disconnect between the person I am in everyday life and the way I react in those moments. Normally, I'm calm and enjoy peaceful communication. But when I feel cornered, it's as if all my ability to communicate disappears, and I revert to a reaction I developed as a child.

I've been reading about EMDR and how it can help people process distressing past experiences and their effects on present-day reactions. I suspect this response may be a learned survival mechanism from my childhood.

I'd really appreciate hearing your thoughts and experiences:

  • Has anyone experienced something similar and managed to overcome it?
  • Can EMDR help reduce automatic reactions like screaming or yelling when triggered?
  • Is it possible to work through the underlying childhood experiences and change these deeply ingrained responses?
  • Is it safe or effective to try EMDR on my own, or is it something that should only be done with a trained therapist?
  • Are there any techniques I can practice to help myself stay calm and communicate when I feel pressured or trapped?

My goal isn't simply to suppress my screaming. I want to be able to stay grounded, express myself, and feel safe even when I'm under pressure. I want to understand this childhood pattern and stop feeling like I'm losing control whenever something triggers it.

I'd especially love to hear from anyone who has gone through EMDR or found other approaches helpful for similar reactions.

Thank you for reading. ❤️

I can’t seem to feel fully rested after sleeping

Hi, no matter how much I sleep, I have this strange feeling that if I slept a little longer, I’d finally feel like I’d gotten enough sleep.

I try going back to bed and getting some more sleep, but I usually can’t fall asleep. Even after I get up and go about my day, this feeling of not having gotten enough sleep stays with me.

What helps you feel fully rested and refreshed after waking up? I’d love to hear from people who have experienced something similar.

Has anyone made the “Kirlik bread” from Korea at home?

I saw this girl eating this bread, and apparently it’s called “Kirlik bread” in South Korea. I got really curious and would love to try making it at home. 😄

But I mostly see it being sold at bakeries, and I haven’t been able to find a homemade recipe for it.

Has anyone here made it at home or knows how to make it? I’d really appreciate it if someone could share a recipe or some tips.

Thanks in advance!

Why does my pastry cream turn out sticky instead of creamy?

I’m trying to make pastry cream, but mine turns out sticky and kind of gummy instead of smooth, creamy, and silky like the pastry cream you get at bakeries.

What could be causing this? Is it because I’m using too much cornstarch, cooking it for too long, or something else?

How can I get that smooth, creamy bakery-style texture?

How can I get better at arranging and placing things?

I’m not very good at arranging things around the house in a way that’s both functional and visually pleasing. I’d like to develop an eye for where things should go, how objects work together, and how to make a space feel more balanced and less cluttered.

Are there any specific principles, techniques, or exercises that can help develop this skill? I’d also appreciate recommendations for books, YouTube channels, courses, subreddits, or any other resources.

Basically, how can someone who isn’t naturally good at arranging things learn to get better at it?

Have you ever gone back and forth between hatred and compassion toward someone?

Have you ever felt both hatred and compassion for the same person, constantly going from one feeling to the other?

In a situation like that, how do you decide where to stop?

Are there any YouTube channels that teach dancing from absolute zero?

Are there any YouTube channels that teach dancing from absolute zero?

Hey everyone! 😅 I have basically zero dancing experience and I really want to learn. I grew up in a very sheltered/isolated community, so I never really had the opportunity to learn how to dance or be around people who danced.

Now I’m trying to learn as an adult, but even some “beginner” tutorials feel way too fast for me. 😭

I’m looking for a channel or online lessons that explain everything really slowly and step-by-step, almost like teaching a child. I need someone who doesn’t assume I already know basic dance terms or movements.

Ideally:

  • Suitable for someone with literally no experience
  • Slow and easy-to-follow explanations
  • Clearly explains left/right and foot placement
  • Something I can practice alone at home
  • A teacher/channel that can take me from complete beginner to a decent level

I don’t really care what style of dance it is. I just want something where I won’t be completely lost after 30 seconds. 😂

Any recommendations? What worked for you when you were a complete beginner?

How do you get over someone you know you can’t be with?

I caught feelings for someone who I know isn’t going to be mine, and I’m having a really hard time letting go. I know I need to move on, but it’s easier said than done.

What actually helped you get over someone you couldn’t have?

Does anyone use a cordless electric cleaning brush? Would you recommend one?

My wrists are pretty weak, so I don’t have enough strength to scrub the tiles properly. I also have chemical allergies, so I’m trying to make cleaning a little easier. I’m thinking about getting one of these, but some of the reviews have made me reconsider. Has anyone here used one? What do you think?

Feel Like a Chicken Scratching Through Garbage on the Internet

I feel like a chicken scratching through garbage when I’m searching for information online, wondering if I’ll ever find a single grain of wheat. How do you guys sift through all this useless information to find what’s actually useful?

Is it possible to have good/nice dreams on purpose?

I’d love to have more pleasant and enjoyable dreams, but I don’t really have any control over what I dream about. Is there anything you can do before going to sleep to increase the chances of having a certain type of dream?

Do you guys actually do anything to influence your dreams? For example, visualizing something before bed, keeping a dream journal, trying lucid dreaming techniques, etc.

Has anything genuinely worked for you? I’d especially love to hear from people who tried something and noticed a real difference in their dreams.

How do you deal with comparing yourself to others?

I’d love to hear about your experiences with this. What helped you stop comparing yourself to other people, or at least made it easier to deal with?
