Failed my G exam last year and do not have the courage to do another one

I failed my G exam last year. My G2 expires on 2028. I cannot seem to have the courage to do it so far. Maybe it is laziness, fear of failing again or both. How do you overcome this?

When did you realize life is not that serious?

Raising two kids while working a corporate job has made me think about something I never really understood when I was younger.

When I was a kid, adults always seemed so serious to me. Parents, teachers, everyone seemed strict, formal, and like they had life completely figured out.

Now that I am getting older, I am realizing that maybe it’s not really like that. I joke around with my kids all the time, mess around with them, and don’t feel like I have to put on this “serious adult” persona.

Maybe it is because our generation grew up differently, or maybe it is just me. But sometimes I wonder if the adults I looked up to when I was young were actually just as unsure as I am now.

Stopped in Kingston on the way back to Toronto from Ottawa, was not expecting that

Drove back to Toronto from Ottawa and stopped in Kingston for lunch. The downtown vibe caught me off guard. Clean, not crowded, just a really nice walkable feel. Enjoyed it more than the actual Ottawa trip lol. Had lunch at Dianne's and gelato from mio gelato. Had a great 1 hour and 30 mins in Kingston!

UK tourist visa approved

Philippine passport holder, permanent resident in Canada. Biometrics last Jul 16. Approval date July 27.

Issue with my application is that I dont have much funds. My sibling in UK have an emergency and I just submitted whatever document is available.

My 2 cents in your application is just be honest. Sincerity goes long way even with limited resources.

How to function and provide for your own family with a sibling in pain of stage 4 NSLC

I am struggling right now to function at work and think a lot about my sister's pain and suffering as she battle cancer. I live in Canada and she is in UK. I have kids and wife depending on me but sometimes the mental anguish and emotional pain takes over.

New start or higher pay?

I'm in finance role in Toronto deciding between staying at my current job or accepting another offer. Current role pays $105k and is in office. 8km commute one-way. Disengaged and feeling burn out.

New offer is $95k, hybrid (2 WFH days), includes a 8% annual profit-growth bonus, but requires a longer commute 40km one-way (GTA). Fresh start but smaller company.

How strict is too strict?

My daughter (13) was out all day with friends at a theme park and later wanted to go swimming at a community center in the evening.

I said no because it was already getting late, she had been out all day, and I wasn’t familiar with the community center or how well supervised it was. At the time, it felt like the responsible decision.

She was clearly disappointed, and now I feel guilty. Part of me wonders if I was being overly cautious and should have let her go, while another part of me thinks I made a reasonable call based on safety concerns and the information I had.

What would you have done in this situation? Was I being too strict, or does this sound like a reasonable boundary?

$37K in credit card debt, is this budget realistic, and can we actually get out?

Family of 4 in Toronto. Two incomes, two kids. We just got our PR and the move here cost us, (wife no income for sometime 2 years) it added up fast and a good chunk of the debt traces back to that period. (And admittedly I did gamble a lot. A lot of losses. Trying to stay clean)

We've been carrying CC debt for a while and finally sat down to map out a real budget. Total credit card balance is roughly $37K spread across about 14 cards (yes, I know). Rates range from 13% to 30%. We're currently paying minimums on everything plus $500 extra toward the highest-rate cards. At this pace I'm not sure if we're making real progress or just treading water.

**What I'm trying to figure out:**

  1. Does this budget look sustainable, or are there obvious leaks or propose tweaks?
  2. Any options worth exploring, LOC, balance transfer, debt consolidation loan? I don't think my credit score will be acceptable though.

Monthly snapshot:

Combined Net Income monthy - $9,746.00

Fix household expenses - $5,370.86 (renting 2 BR for $2,349 plus $100 for parking)

Credit card minimum - $1,852.77

Repaying debt with family member - $354

Extended family support - $125

Emergency /Savings - $750.00

Extra Credit card payment - $500.00

Eat out / toys / general bucket to not go insane: $500.00

Family of 4 Toronto: How much is your household income and are you able to save?

Both my wife and I are working. Renting an apartment in East york. Our HHI is roughly $150k Gross. It seems that we are always living paycheck to paycheck and cannot save a bit. I dont believe we are living beyond our means. We have not travelled in 3 years. We go out from time to time. Mostly stay at home.

Worried if one of us is let go, we would be really in bad shape. How are you guys able to save?
