What are realistic editing rates?

Ok for context, I am not a professional editor. I'm a smallish Youtuber and completely self taught when it comes to everything post production

Ever since I made my channel, there is this *huge* Youtuber who has reacted to over half my videos (his reactions also ratio'd the heck out of me, nearly 20x-30x the views of my own videos) and yesterday I found an email from him reaching out to me to see if I would be interested in editing a video for him and he asked for my rates.

and I have *no idea* what proper editing rates even look like. if it's anything like my own videos, i'd assume this would include cuts, audio and color balancing, very simple VFX, etc. Nothing technically impressive but I feel like my strength is my ability to use simple editing techniques in creative ways. maybe about 20 hours of work for every 15 minutes of footage.

What are *real* editing rates to ask for? Not free. Not to build a portfolio. I want to hear from the people who have made a career out of this, what do you think is a fair value for this skill level / time spent?

Best ways to get $400? I'm so deperate

like the title says, i need $400 by basically monday to not lose my home. ive been behind on all my bills already but managing to keep my head above the water, but recently my fiance went to the hospital and losing her income for two weeks has put me in a position where im $400 short of paying my rent to an already hard headed landlord

like, i'll have the money next week but my landlord already is letting me push it. i dont know how he'll react if i say i'm going to be short $400 until next friday. and im not asking reddit for handouts either but at this point i feel like im out of options. payday loans take way too much interest considering id have to take out multiple of them. I've tried to sell some of my things but have either found no buyers or a response like "really cool collection but its not worth selling those right now"

donating plasma is also off the table since there is nothing open that provides that service during the hours i'm off work

is there anything that you guys can think of that im missing? i have no family to borrow from (literally, i aged out of the foster care program at 18) and my friends are just as poor as me. I just feel so stuck

New player here: just have a few questions about deckbuilding

So while I'm very new to pokemon, I'm not new to TCGs. I've played plenty of MTG and YuGiOh for decades. and im just trying to wrap my head around a few deckbuilding philosophies to try and improve this deck before jumping into ranked since all i've done so far is clear all the step up battles in each difficulty for packs and to learn the game.

May: why does nobody use may? i see her in almost zero lists. even with just 1 pokemon in hand, its basically a way to psuedo search your deck. i feel like its really good to be able to may to near guarantee finding crobat

leaf or that stadium that makes retreat costs 2 less? i see so many lists using that stadium instead but maybe its just me but isnt giving your opponent the same benefit without them needing to dedicate a card for it really bad for me? i get that you just play the stadium like leaf and only use it when your ready for a game winning swap, but what makes the stadium played by so many more people?

are there any manditory "non-engine" cards im missing, so to speak? because i feel like cards like the pancho could be easily swapped out for something thats more of a meta call. but i dont know whats meta other than that sleep deck everyone posts on this page lol

thanks in advanced!

The Hospital Near Me Sucks

i just need to vent about this a little bit

so my fiance went to the hospital 7 days ago for norovirus and everything seemed to have go well. they have her zoforan but they said to come back to the hospital if she keeps feeling sick

well, it came back that night and it was way worse, this time vomiting blood.

when we went back to the hospital, their tune basically entirely changed. they started treating my fiance like a drug addict because she said she smoked weed once earlier in the year (so much for being truthful to your doctors) and just pumped her with more zoforan and tried to shove her out of the door

this happened for 3 days, with her vomiting more blood and they just kept calling us liars and pumping her with more zoforan

enter today: she had a heart attack. they stabalized her but it turns out that everything she was going through after day 1 is a KNOWN SIDE EFFECT OF ZOFORAN

INSTEAD OF JUST SAYING "oh maybe its the zoforan" THEY JUST KEPT PUMPING HER WITH IT CALLING US LIARS UNTIL SHE HAD A FUCKING HEART ATTACK

i hate this hospital

I'm so confused, help me figure this out

So, let's talk about my normal view trajectory:

I upload a video, it gets like 3k views within 12 hours, then slows down. it usually grows to 7k-10k views and dies off.

even my best preforming video followed a similar trajectory. it hit 67k views in its first 48 hours, slowed down, and slowly grew to currently 79k views

*NOW* let's talk about last weeks upload

within the first 12 hours, this video got about 1200 views. a solid 10 of 10 video, basically only getting 100 views per hour. but then something weird happened: it didnt stop. for 6 days straight now, its been getting 100 views per hour, every hour, and has grown to be my 3rd largest video on my entire channel.

to my knowledge, i didnt do anything different or re-invent the wheel as far as my content and packaging is concerned.

so what are factors that can cause this kind of viewership? im so used to videos always slowing down after 48 hours that it makes me wonder why this one has been low but consistent viewership for almost a week straight. im not complaining, but I would like to know some factors that can cause this so i can replicate it

Will dipping my toes in a secondary niche hurt my channel?

For context, I'm currently at 3.6k subscribers and I make video essays in the Yu-Gi-Oh niche with a good amount of success. My best preforming video is 80k views with the worst preforming at 5k views

However, I *really* want to make at least 1 video essay on skyrim because there has been something about that game thats been eating away at me for years that 1) I really want to talk about and 2) no other creator has talked about in the decades since skyrim's release.

Will making the occassional off-niche video essay hurt my channel overall? I dont plan on switching my niche, but this is also something i really want to make a video on even if the audience doesnt entirely overlap outside of "gaming"

Noobie editing question: is there a better way to add depth to my green screen scenes?

So I'm still very new to editing videos and so far I've made 20 long form videos, each between 15 and 30 minutes, so i'm starting to get more comfortable with the program

but one bottle neck in my time are the simple green screen effects. i'll explain what i mean and how i would accomplish the effect, and i would love feedback from more experienced editors on how this could be done easier

so say i want to place myself behind a stall in a video game while making my talking point, normally: this is how i normally do it

•first, i take a still of the B roll scene and cut out the stall from it and turn it into a transparent png image

•bottom layer is the B roll clip

•next layer is my green screen recording

•top layer is the transparent png of the stall placed over myself to give the illusion that i'm behind the stall

however, this comes with obvious limitations like the whole scene needs to be still for that shot to work. if i pan the camera around, the stall doesnt follow without needing what feels like hundreds of keyframes

are there easier, more efficient ways to produce that effect?

Is this a scam? First email I've ever got about a collaboration / sponsorship and don't really know the signs to look for

i'm a fairly small channel (3.4k subs, average 10k views per long form video) so it seems weird that a company would even reach out to a channel as small as mine

I tried to google the company and found very mixed reviews. Has anyone here worked with JPfans before and can share their experiences?

Also, just in general, what are the signs of a bad faith sponsor / an outright scam? I'm still new to this Youtube thing so I don't know what signs I should look for.
