Any babies going through a sleep regression right now?

I fear mine is, of course at a time when I had lots of things I was trying to do in the evening and when my partner will be out of town soon. 😭

today napped for 30 minutes instead of 1 hr - 1 hr 20 min, and then when I tried to nurse him to sleep he kept waking up.

now he slept 1 hr and fell asleep after 40 minutes of nursing, only to wake less than 5 minutes later and I came into the room to him sitting on the floor crying mama :(

he also hasn’t been interested in eating as much/has been more picky which goes with it usually for him.

I am looking at a Bernina 1090 this weekend because my machine broke. Any ideas what I should test on it?

The person selling it is the son of the owner so I don't think he knows anything about the machine to be able to check for me (I asked him what presser feet it had and he didn't know what it was).

I also don't know a whole lot about machines so don't want to mess it up/think I might be anxious trying it out. But don't want to miss something since I'd be spending an ok amount on it ($400) and wouldn't be able to get that money back.

Also I'd be using it for clothes.. what presser feet would you recommend? My last machine I just used buttonhole, zipper, walking foot, and regular.

Thank you!

Well I have been humbled. I have 9 garments cut out I was hoping to sew in the next 2 weeks, before going out of town for the summer. It took me 5 hours to sew a pair of toddler pants last night.

Granted, it was on a new to me machine since mine broke that was given in the pretense that it wasn't working for them (thread was getting messed up), and it was doing that for me, plus it's a very basic machine (boy do I miss the needle threader from my old machine). So I was figuring the machine out while sewing... but toddler pants (Red Creek Kids Bobby) are pretty dang simple to sew.

What I have lined up:

  • The Ordinary Folk Luca Pants
  • Paradise Patterns Honeygirl Tee (not even sure I can do this on the machine)
  • Syd Graham Lane Ruffle Hack Pants
  • Syd Graham Lane Pants w/ track stripe hack
  • Soften Studio Clo Bias Skirt
  • Cayden Naughton Shoreline Shift Tank
  • Sew Liberated Arthur Pants (at least this is the elastic waist not zip fly)
  • Silversaga Eleonora Dress

And I also was hoping to make a Shoreline shift dress, M7742 dress, Anna Allen lotte blouse hack, and paradise patterns humla romper bralette, but those may be for fall instead.

Throw in that I was thinking of buying a new (old) machine next weekend (bernina 1090) so that'll be a whole new thing to learn, and now I'm second guessing because I'm guessing it doesn't have the needle threader. How do people thread their needles?

Wish me luck!

Bernina 830 Record for $375? Needing a new machine.. Says just professionally serviced and runs

great. I've seen a lot of good things about the machine but was curious if it's fairly easy to use? Coming from brother cs6000i so i think that did most of the guesswork for you.

I was also looking at a 1090 that seems like it's in great shape but hasn't been serviced since 2018. Also got a little scared because someone mentioned no presser foot pressure control.

Need a new machine.. Bernina 1090 for $400?

my old machine broke (brother cs6000i). I am looking for a machine that is a little sturdier/easier to fix, straight and zig zag and quilting and buttonhole, goes backwards, can go through some heavier materials (canvas, denim but probably lighter)… I didn’t use most of the stitches on the old machine but did like the ease of using it.

it was last serviced in 2018 and has only been used a little off and on since then so I’m guessing would need to get serviced again? No mechanical issues and has all parts.

There’s also a bernina 830 record just serviced for $375.

Has anyone used Green Matters Natural Dye Co? I am going to sew a pair of poplin pants but they're white and I have a toddler who is always grabbing my legs.

I have a few questions.

  1. How did it turn out?
  2. How long did it take from them getting the package till returned to you?
  3. If the poplin is slightly see-through white, will dyeing it a color make it less see-through? It's 3.87 oz/131 gsm.

Thanks!

Thoughts on Janome Lock 100 for $360? Need a new machine and this is the cheapest the store had. (coming from Brother CS6000i)

Dropped my machine off for maintenance/repair and said it would cost more than the cost of the machine. I like the idea of having the same machine so I don't have to learn something new, but to be honest I used maybe 5 or less of the stitches available on the machine so that's not a feature I need. I also need a machine fast so can't look around for vintage machines on fb marketplace. $350 is probably the max I'd want to spend/more than I want to spend.

Thanks!

Did your c-section area always get more achey after c-section than before? From working out or not.

Baby is almost 1.5 years old so I'm a fair bit out from birth. Still I get an achey/knot/pain feeling sometimes around my c-section. I haven't gotten back in shape so it could be because of that, but it's like a muscle pain/knot feeling around the c-section scar area (just from doing regular stuff like playing with a toddler/chasing a toddler/etc. not heavy working out).

Then in my mind I'm like oh god everything is fused together down there and that's why. :|

Do you project onto the wrong or right side of the fabric?

Sewing patterns don't really show for projector sewing, but it seems like most other sewing it's tracing right side up of pattern pieces onto wrong side of fabric? Same for projecting?

Thanks!

What happens if you don't cut a pattern following the grain line? Assuming there's no stretch.

I have a fabric I was going to use that is striped but I just realized the stripes are horizontal instead of vertical. I'd prefer to have them vertical. It's a thin cotton (blend?) without stretch. It feels like a really cool cotton, kind of a shirt material? If the photo works, the stripes are the opposite direction as to what is shown. Thanks!

Anyone else stressed that their baby is not following the recommended sleep schedule/won’t nap?

last two days I’ve tried getting baby to sleep for over an hour with no luck. he’ll sleep at night from 830-730ish (usually 11-11.5 hours), with that including time woken up to nurse (at least 3 or so times, big chunks in the morning). he used to do this and would take 1 nap but now he’s been refusing that nap and then just exhausted by the end of the day.

and then of course I want to cry because that’s my only down time all day (to get stuff done but also relax).

a couple websites said about 15 hours a day of sleep (11-12 hrs at night and 2-3 hours of naps).

was hoping for recs on what type of cord to get and how much, and maybe videos on how to weave. or any links to projects where you’ve done the same!

thank you!

I've gained a bit in the last 3 or so years (baby is not even 1.5 haha) because of moving somewhere where driving is more common/not having a job where I'm active. Then had a baby and body further changed.

I went from wearing tiny crop tops and high waisted pants/skirts mixed with lots of thrifted stuff, some muumuu/prairie stuff. Now the crop tops feel too revealing and the muu muus make me feel too pillowy. I sew (also posted something similar in a sewing group) and I'm having to decide whether or not to use patterns that I bought pre-baby that aren't really working for my body now. Like I sewing a dress similar to this one after sewing a few tops previously that were this style and liking them, but now the dress feels like it settles on my boobs and they just look very soft but not in a good way.

I had all these sewing projects planned out and am having to rethink them all, and I need to figure out what clothes I want to keep that don't currently fit, what styles I want to rebuy in bigger sizes or find something completely different and I just don't know!

I have the erasable pens right now that are supposed to disappear when wet but they are always disappearing by the time I'm finishing sewing a project (so a few days), where I'm having to guess where everything lines up because it's not there anymore.

Thank you!

I want sustainable (so some part of it replaceable), works well, and not gross.

  1. Oxo w/ replaceable brush
  2. Clorox toilet wands
  3. Scrubbing bubbles brush

Thanks!

I don't really know what different diaper rashes look like (wetness sensitivity, acidic poo, yeast, reaction to diapers, etc.). We use a mix of cloth and millie moon.

He occasionally gets redness along the crack, sometimes it can be raised up a little but not little bumps.

Thanks!

Thinking if I think it's a pattern I'll make a lot, it might be useful to trace onto paper since I'll need to bring out the projector each time otherwise. Haven't used it yet so not sure how time intensive it is. Do you find it nice to have the traced pattern on hand?

Thanks!

I've never done this and don't feel like starting now, but I was just looking up recipes to remind myself if I roast the feet before making broth or not, and instead found this.

So also, do you roast or no?

Thanks1
