How the orange beach area post hurricane?

Never been here, works sending me to Mobile Alabama and I have discretion to stay on orange beach during this trip.

I know the hurricane just ripped through the area, I’ll be there in two weeks. Will the beach be available/open? Is the water good to swim in in October? Anything I should be aware of? Would it just be better for me to stay in Mobile? I’d be practically on the beach if I stayed at a hotel on orange beach.

Is it bad that video games are the only non-exercise thing I enjoy doing in my free time?

After working 40-60+ hours a week, getting all chores, errands, responsibilities taken care of, meal prepping, and near daily exercise in, I don’t want to do shit like “build” something or work in a skill or something or socialize.

Like I don’t want to build a bench or practice guitar or paint or crochet or fish or play a sport or watch tv or watch sports or work on a car or build software. I certainly don’t want to socialize or chat about meaningless things (will absolutely talk about meaningful things but group socializing is very often shallow echo chambers).

I simply want to play video games, yet the people in my life treat video games as an extremely unattractive and lazy pass time, as if me playing them completely null in voids all the work exercise and responsibilities I do every day.

It’s not like I’m not on top of my shit, why do people have such strong negative opinions about video games? How else am I supposed to use what little free time I have?

BB Unlocked has a weird awkward identity between super corporate/professionalism and realness/authenticity.

They’re clearly trying new ways to make the show work, and I really love that they’re integrating the “missed moments” for live feeds tea, secrets of the season like revealing powers, bringing on removed house guests, and showing behinds the scenes stuff.

This season of BB unlocked is definitely more interesting than last season, but I can’t help but feel the clash between professionalism and real human moments to be so uncomfortably awkward. Like they really need to find a way to film BB unlocked in a more comfortable, even homey feel like classic Big Brother was. The show is already over edited and produced, BB unlocked would be great if they made it seem less like a fancy game show (I know that’s what it is) and more like a podcast like Good Mythical Morning with Rhett and Link.

What are y’all’s thoughts on how BB unlocked could change/improve?

“Still below $3” feels super distasteful considering how most people feel about prices tripling over the last six years. Also implies we’ll see the SPST be over $3 sooner than later. Asinine.

The most frustrating part of this new App update is it’s so obvious AI generated garbage and thus nonintuitive.

To be clear I’m not inherently anti-AI. It’s absolutely a tool, and an incredibly powerful productivity tool if you use it properly and under extreme oversight.

This app update is just SO nonhuman in design and unintuitive that it makes me shocked it ever got pushed to production. It’s almost like no one vetted the composition of the menus, the font, box sizes, efficacy or horizontal vs vertical category scrolling, and so much more.

It’s like the keys to this new app refresh was overseen by a ton of people who just simply didn’t care about user experience. Like why Taco Bell.

I know Pokopia won’t win GOTY, but it is hands down MY Game of the Year, no contest.

I never expected to love a game like this, especially not as much as I do. Pokopia reignited a light within me I thought was long gone. A genuine, simple curiosity for Pokemon. I know it’s a whole other kind of game from tradition Pokemon but they did such an excellent job of making the Pokemon feel alive with personality somewhat similar to mystery dungeons instead of, frankly, soulless static spawns we’ve seen in a handful of switch era mainline games.

I stopped playing last month to pivot to Palworld, booted up the DLC today and was flooded with such a welcoming comfort through the music and visuals. Starting it back up felt like putting on a very warm blanket on a cold winter day.

I love this game so much 🥹. Happy Bubbly Basin release week everyone!

PSA from a former TB employee: there is NOTHING wrong with ordering a lot of food! You are not a bad person for ordering as much as you want!!!

Former employee/AGM here. Worked for Taco Bell for over 5 years.

Over the last two weeks Ive seen a lot of people happily share their food hauls in this sub and get met with a TERRIBLE amount of criticism about how they’re inconveniencing the staff somehow by making them do their jobs? Like how does that even make sense.

Busy stores stay busy, regardless of how much you order. It’s just how it goes. Someone ordering 5-10 enchoritos or 10-20 pizzas or even 4-5 party packs is NOTHING y’all. We deal with far, FAR more volume at any given moment. If anything it’s simpler when you’re ordering a lot of the same thing!

Imagine a typical 50+ item order, every single item has a modification, of those 50 items like 15-20 of them are unique if not more. And 30-60 items in an order is fairly typical during lunch and dinner time (yes we see far smaller orders but we do get actually large ones fairly regularly). Plus, items that need deep frying, or steamed, or grilled add a lot of extra time too and are in that mix.

Not to mention, people order those quantities of food IN DRIVE THRU no less. Now that’s the real issue. Drive thru is supposed to be intended for quick service.

Actually massive orders, like hundreds of items are not uncommon either, from churches, or events, busses of people on trips coming in, sports teams. They’ll easily put a $200-$300 order in for their dozen or two people with them.

But you guys? Complaining because some happy Taco Bell loving folk are buying relatively small quantities of food, most likely coming INSIDE THE STORE to do it too? Let be so ffr right now. In what world is someone ordering 10 enchoritos some massive inconvenience to anyone, even if they’re doing it during a rush?

All this tells me is y’all have no idea what working in fast food is actually like and are just shitting in people’s enjoyment for absolutely no reason. Does no one remember when we had the $1 menu with like 10-15+ items on it? People would easily drop a $20 getting one of everything, on repeat, all day long.

Like seriously you guys, calm down 🤣

Any ideas why relatively new lawn mower won’t start? Details in thread.

Bought it from Home Depot in April of this year.

Initially ran over small stump and the blade bent. Bought a new blade and it worked fine. Randomly last week while I was mowing, somewhat damp grass it just stopped mid mow.

Probably 5-10 min before this I put more gas in it, the gas is only about 3 months old and it’s what I used in this lawn mower 3 weeks ago.

Since it stopped and won’t turn back on I’ve added oil (although technically it was automobile 10w-30 high mileage but online said that’s fine). Accidentally turned it the wrong way (filter side, and this was after it stopped working) and had to get a new air filter and clean that side out. And I’ve replaced the spark plug and ensured the wire is “clicking” into place when I put it back on.

Also when I changed spark plugs I cranked it like 10 times to clear any oil that might have gotten stuck when I flipped it the wrong way.

Would love any insight y’all have. This lawn mower cuts and runs well, but has been a nightmare ever since it ran into that tiny stump.

How many miles would a 220 pound man need to walk to burn 1,000 calories?

I regularly walk 7–10 miles, which my husband Apple Watch Ultra says burns anywhere from 900-1300 calories depending on how far I go. I’m probably actually only burning 300-500 calories a walking that length though.

I’m not sure how fast I’m walking on these walks, but I get 7 miles done in about 2 hours, 10 done in about 3 hours so I guess I’m walking around 3 miles an hour? Idk, but the walking paths do have a lot of variable elevations.

So how many miles would I need to walk to actually burn 1000 calories?

Season 27 had such a phenomenal cast that I was worried about this seasons house guests. They’re finally growing on me and I love them.

I’m ngl I didn’t care for season 26’s cast besides a few guests like Angela but she was also a LOT that season. Sometimes it’s like that, like I didn’t care for season 21, 23, or 24’s cast too much either. Then season 27 hits and it felt like an all star cast. Vince, Keanu, Morgan, Kelley, Ava, Rachel returning, and really just the cast as a whole. I LOVED season 27, it felt like a legendary season similar to season 20, 16, 14, 10, 7 and so on.

So I was worried season 28 was going to have a meh cast. I kind of felt that initially but we’re going on week two and they’re growing all growing on me so fast! I LOVE Melody, Dee, Drew, largely Angela (for now lol), Yash, Mallory, Devens, like this is a pretty good season so far.

Is it acceptable to decline housekeeping when you’re staying at a hotel?

I was recently told it’s extremely sketchy to decline housekeeping regardless of your personal preference or expectations of privacy so hotel staff should especially prioritize inspecting every square inch of your personal property while you’re staying at said hotel while you’re gone.

Is this true? I’ve never been at a hotel where this is the case until recently and I feel like I’m being gaslit about expecting some degree of control over who has access to the room I’m paying day to day.

The PepperJack sauce on the Spicy Potato Soft Taco is PERFECTION!!!!

Got that and a CGC today and removed their respective sauces. Added a side cup of PepperJack sauce and dear sweet baby Jesus I wanted to cry eating the spicy potato soft taco it was exactly how I remembered it like 12 years ago.

It was fan-fucking-tastic and it was also absolutely divine on the cheesy Gordita crunch. I can not recommend trying it enough y’all!!!!

How do I tell my sister that I feel like her Nexplanon has changed her personality so severely I don’t want to be around her anymore?

My sister is in her 20’s. I’ve known her, her whole life, and before she was on Nexplanon 4 years ago, we were best friends.

She had thick skin back then, I could speak my mind freely and so could she. She was reasonable, rational, very mature, not so overly emotional nearly as often, and fun to be around, and we RARELY ever fought.

Since she’s been on Nexplanon, she’s been an absolutely nightmare for to be around. She requires such a high degree of patience and I’m just so worn out. I want my best friend back but I feel like there’s nothing I can say anymore that won’t offend or piss her off. I tried telling her about 8 months into her being on Nexplanon why I thought she should get off of it and she made it a massive emotional fight about how I had no idea what I was talking about because “I am an ignorant masogonistic man who has absolutely no right to tell her what to do with her body”. (I never told her to do anything btw, just talked to her as calmly as I could about my concerns)

If she isn’t pissed/offended by something, she’s so fucking sensitive and emotional about it. What do I mean? Take your pick. Here’s some examples:

  1. She cried hysterically the other day because her boss liked reacted to her teams message instead of heart reacting to it.

  2. I work full time and am in college full time in a stem major and for years now we’ve had an ongoing battle where every time I’m busy studying, or working, she gets deeply emotional about it and expresses that I hate her and “I’m actually not busy I’m just avoiding her”.

  3. I have ALWAYS thought closing the door and turning off the lights every now in then is hilarious, I do it to everyone. I did it to her a few months ago while she was vacuuming and she starting having close to a panic attack over being worried she was pissing me off for “making noise” or “didn’t want to disturb me sleeping” (it was 7pm lol).

  4. Anytime I say ANYTHING to her, and I mean anything, if I don’t approach it how HR would approve two coworkers discussing something in a corporate environment, she gets offended, upset, or sensitive over. It’s nearly an every day thing now. For example she spent a couple hours painting a dresser hot pink a while back for a 12 year old girl. I never saw the color, I never cared about the color, it was for a child. I did not care it was pink so long as it made the kid happy. I walked in and she wanted my opinion right? Having never seen the hot pink, which was VIBRANT compared to the old color, I said “oh wow, now THAT is pink”. She got so fucking pissed and emotional and went off about it.

  5. I had to turn off read receipts a long time ago because if I read a message but didn’t respond within 5-10 min while I was WORKING or studying for school, she would literally come find me and interrupt me wanting a response for things that absolutely could wait.

  6. Every freaking thing, everything that she hears seems to go through some sort of filter first of “how could I, or anyone else in any scenario imaginable possibly find offense to this” before she processes anything else.

I could go on and on and on, but essentially I can’t be myself around her. She doesn’t want playful banter because it’s “offensive or negative or hurtful”. God, anything she can perceive as not extremely positive is hurtful criticism, even when it’s obviously light hearted. I’m so tired of it. We’re siblings, and even a playful jab is met with such immense retaliation about how hurtful it is.

I miss my sister so much. I wish she never got on Nexplanon, it has been like living with an overly hormonal teenager for years now. She never acted like any of this at all before Nexplanon.

I’ve talked to several women or men who’re close to women who’ve had terrible reactions and side effects that stayed with them for several months going into years while they had the implant. They got the implant out and were back to normal within a few weeks. I can’t help but feel it’s the birth control and not who my sisters just, become . . . I don’t know what to do. I feel like no approach I could take in discussing this with her would end well.

I found a cure for my building paralysis!

After beating the game I’ve had severe building paralysis, having vague ideas of what I wanted, but a combination of not knowing how to execute them plus mostly not having the time due to work has left me feeling helpless.

For about two months now I’ve tried picking up the game every now and then to make progress of some kind, play for 10-20 min and put it back down. Made me sad because I loveeeeeee this game.

So a few nights ago I found what works for me:

Choose 2 islands, and designate 1 to be a “playground” and one to be a “serious build”. In the play ground, literally just play. I know it sounds silly but make stupid stuff and put them in weird places and try things that make no sense and move it all around until it makes sense. Organization is not allowed in my playground! No sir. Make weird patterns, put items on and around things, paint stuff funny colors, anything and everything goes.

My playground is a hot mess and sometimes looks like a junk yard tbh. Don’t worry about anything being perfect or looking good, and most importantly NO! Doing this is NOT a waste of time, because you’re brainstorming!!!

As I kept doing this with different items and materials, I began making things I actually liked! Patterns began forming, I started getting more and more ideas and better at building the longer I did this. Then I could take some of those idea and execute CONFIDENTLY on my “serious build island”.

Yes, progress there is slow, but that’s okay tbh. The longer I play and experiment the better ideas I’m getting on how I want my “perfect build” to actually look and how I can realistically get there. I went from barely playing the last couple of months to getting almost 8 hours in the last few days!

Hope this helps anyone stuck like I’ve been. It felt so good to just spend a few hours last night doing purposeful random experimenting and genuinely getting back into the flow of the game. I love Pokopia so much 🥹

Why is going to college so controversial for those who have never attended one?

I went back to school in my late 20’s, and am looking to finish my degree in the fall or next spring. Any time I have conversations with people who’ve never been to college, or I see comments online about people talking about college, there’s always jabs being made about how college is a waste of time, waste of money, and the person who’s in school/finished was unwise for going.

If it’s not that, then there’s unsolicited commentary about how much the non-college educated people have accomplished without a degree. What gets me is this commentary is out of nowhere. Usually the content being discussed isn’t centered around success, they or I am just mentioning college offhand and focusing on something else. Like, no one’s looking down on you for not going to college, I certainly am not. It’s not like I, or the creators making content online talking about college are implying anything about their success, especially over anyone else.

Yet there’s always people going “yeah trades are the smarter move, making 90k as an electrician with no debt” or “I was able to get a very cushy job or nice car and house, of xyz accomplishment without college”. Like good for you, I’m not sure how that’s relevant to the discussion though?

Anyone else experienced this?

Edit: I’m was not asking why college is controversial in general, I was asking why people who’ve never been to college are so comfortable soliciting their opinion about college, to college educated people, especially when it’s unprovoked/unprompted.

Do you want Pokopia to have sequels or continuous support?

Man, I love this game. I love it so freaking much. I’m a 30 year old man with a full life of responsibilities and obligations and wish I had more time to spend playing this game, especially with everything I want to accomplish on each of my worlds. Eventually (a few years from now) I plan to have more free time in my schedule to just invest tons of time into this game.

From your experience/perspective, would you want Pokopia to evolve into a Pokemon style “generational” series where we have like, Gen 2 Pokopia based in Johto and so on? Or would you want to see this Pokopia to be supported indefinitely so it’s constantly expanding?

What other things do you want to see added to this game or future Pokopia games?
