mounting panels horizontally

due to roof size im thinking of doing a portrait/landscape install.

vertical/portrait is easy as 2 rails as per normal.

However is it the same for the horizontal/landscape panels as i really dont want to cut a heap of smaller pieces and mount them.

If it helps they will be full size 440w panela hooked up to a fronious (single string) ac coupled to my victron system.

victron tank sensors.

ill likely add couple of tank sensors to my victron gx so ill get the gx tank unit as well

ill use 2 wire 4-20mA ill need 2 extend one of them by 30ft ill.likely use cat5 as its twisted.

Do i simply drop tye sensor in the water tank then tell the victron its a 0-3m unit and volume is 1000gal or what ever it is.

Both tanks are poly just for rain water

Shed light recommendations

Its 2.7m to eaves so likely 3.2m to light mounting height so highbays may be overkill.

Not sure if i should go cheap linkable batterns straight down the middle or is there a better budget option.

is a desalinator just a ro unit?

Im.wondering why boat desalinator units are so expensive.

seems to be a lift pump to high pressure pump then ro unit.

Why wouldnt you simply use a tap pressure under sink ro unit with a single pump thats at tap pressure.

Obviously add some prefilters to suit your water eg 5 and 20 micron.

how to move used water tanks.

If i found a deal on some used water tanks. fittings installed ect ect

is it simply get a tow truck to drop them off.

There 5000l so a few hundred kg each.

i maybe able to sqeeze them into my car trailer but seems easyier to simply pull them up onto a truck.

is it worth flogging off old drives?

Well ove got a heap of old drivea from my nas (not mas drives)

ove got 4 x 2tb and 4 x 8tb each with no issues other then 40000hrs.

Do i simply flog them off on FB market place, i know they have been formatted but cant be bothered to hook them up for full health checks.

I see 8tb drives are still pulling gopd money in todays market

plumbing rain water from shed to main tank.

Well im building a decent sized shed that will double the roof space of my off grid place.

shed collection point is 12m/36ft to the water tank.

id like to go underground for it but whats the best method.

just using standard 90mm pipe underground which would mean this pipe may collect crap over the years.

do i run a 250gallon tank on then shed with a sump pump that pumps water via a smaller line into my main tank. This would be more sealed as i presume crap would settle in the 250g tank.

Do i put a decent sized tank on the shed then hook it up to a pump and simply use a hose to fill main tank.

lets say a 1500gallon tank

Ozito Vs Ryobi Vs milwaukee power tools

I currently have a mix of Ryobi tools for home and work supplies me with Milwaukee tools (drill, driver, rattle gun, fans) are Milwaukee.

So im needing to grab some more home grade tools

Circular saw, Chainsaw, Jet Blower, Sprayer im considering jumping over to ozito for these. Basic cost is $521 Vs $896 i would then need to grab a few batts but likely at that this stage for my older Ryobi gear also.

Milwaukee gear is $1615

I Could then flog of on FB my old Ryobi drills, impact driver chargers and so forth to offset the much cheaper ozito battery's

So basically work tools will stay Milwaukee abut is much of a downgrade to go ozito for home grade tools over Ryobi

water fill locations.

Well i know most of you guys wont be filling so much but a few longer trips may be a few hundred litres.

Well ive got a off grid place so im wanting to fill large 1000-2000l+ at a time.

Do any of your caravan guys know the leagality of using random council taps to fill up water.

Most have vandal proof taps (easy bunnings sells the tool)

now a local park also has a large 1 1/2" tap with valves and so forth. Now would you be game to throw a cam lock in there fill up much quicker.

skids or similar to keep boat on tidal river

Mates got a place that has tidal river access and i was wondering is there anything other then a full blown jetty we could build then simply hand winch the boat up high and dry.

using a pump to assist a tap to flow quicker.

Not exactly sure where this belongs but hear me out.

i have ~5000gal (19000l) of water tanks and arround ~1600sq ft (150m²) of roof space bettween cabin and shed. Its arround 1/2 year to completely fill with zero consumption and 100% collection.

i also have a fully enclosed car trailer so im thinking about mounting either 2 IBC's in there or a 600gal tank and fill it up with pottable water.

Now its going to take hrs to fill but other then using 3/4 hose can i add a inline pump to almost suck it out of the pipe work.

water tanks are $350aud here. So spending $1000aud will quickly pay for its self. Plus i rather have more water for fires and so forth.

There is no close truck fill stations just a caravan one.

Water tank monitoring options

New to this off grid thing. So Likely being paranoid but i have 2 x 5000l (1300g) tanks what do people use to monitor them?

Old school float set up with a external gauge or are people having luck with electronic sensors.

Also im considering putting a 100-200G tank on my shed and having that on a float switch (or sump pump) to pump into my main tanks. Just mainly for more water collection.

Well ive got some land and im wondering on the real world range of these units. Im happy to throw it on a pole up high presuming line of sight is 660ft/200m crazy.

Just for solar powered security cameras and so i can be at the dam and still have coverage

People any idea how to rekey this lock. Work must gave 500 of them as we have just upgraded to a different key/system.

Then is as simple as swapping the tumbler/pins lets say from 12345 to 54321 (saves me buying anything) then requeating a few keys to be cut.

Im likely going to use ~10 locks

Not sure if this belongs here, however bought a new place renting out current place to mate for 2 years so he can sell current place and start a build on his empty block.

He has requested i keep the cameras there (eufy flood cam and a 2c pack)

So may as well use it as an excuse to look at what to buy and change brands if needed.

Happy with the eufy experience and cameras.

Likely will be a 4 pack of base cameras (will likely want solar panel) then as needed grab one or 2 extra cameras if its for a shed or similar.

Due to out buildings i cant run cat5e or similar everywhere.

Ill likely try to find a deal though, cause im cheap and well new home purchase makes my accounts look sad.
