How would Jax take it if her mother got trapped in the circus a while after she got scanned in?
How would Jax take it if her mother got trapped in the circus a while after she got scanned in?
So like...I get it Jax does some pretty rancid things in the show. But, do the haters not realize that it's all but confirmed that Jax didn't enjoy doing anything she did to Gangle or the other characters and was only doing it because she feels she is so worthless that she has basically no other choice but to play the part of the "Funny one" because of her guilt for what happened to Ribbit? This is what makes Jax tragic is that deep down she's not a bad or abusive person at all but she's playing the part of one because she doesn't see any other fate for her due to feeling so undeserving of love and forgiveness due to her traumatic upbringing from her childhood outside of the Circus? IDK about anyone else but I'm able to feel more sorry for a character who does horrible things when this is their reason because it shows that they don't want to be this way and thus have the potential to change (Which the ending shows was possible with Jax as she finally was making headway in such in her mindscape).
Also in regards to Ribbit people act like her abstraction (or in their minds suicide) was Jax's fault because...she cut off a friendship with her? Sure, Ribbit didn't deserve to be suddenly cut out like she was but Jax made it clear in the bedroom scene that she wasn't comfortable sharing more of her past other than what she'd already told her but Ribbit asked her if she trusted her and pushed her a bit which made her feel like she had to tell her. After this happens Jax leaves Ribbit alone and it's Ribbit who keeps trying to reconnect despite Jax wanting to distance herself. At no point does Jax try to "Isolate" Ribbit from the group or make her feel like she's unlovable. The closest this comes to happening is when she uses Ragatha to prevent Ribbit from coming over to where everyone was sitting (After Ribbit and her had their big blow up at the Snowy Summit) but we have to recognize that Jax was already over in the sitting area and Ribbit wasn't so why should she have to get up and leave when she's already there? Sure, it wasn't polite but if the situation was reversed I don't think there's any chance that Jax would have tried getting Ribbit to leave the sitting area so she could sit down. She didn't suddenly hate Ribbit (The fact she tried checking on her several times but chickened out shows that deep down she still valued and loved Ribbit) she just needed her space after spilling her guts more than she was comfortable with. Were abstraction not a thing that can happen (Which there's no evidence the characters had any idea abstraction was even possible at this point in time as the only one who had witnessed it before was Kinger and he almost definitely never talked about it due to his mental issues so it's not like Jax was isolating Ribbit KNOWING that there was a chance she could have a mental break and then no longer be there) and Ribbit left Jax alone long enough I'm sure that Jax would have eventually broke the silence and started talking to her again so long as she didn't try bringing up that night anymore.
There's literally zero evidence that Abstraction somehow erases one's consciousness from existence. You can see in episode 3 that Queenie is still in there and aware because when Kinger touches her she closes her eyes reveling in her husbands touch again. The thumbnail for episode 9 even shows a future scene of Pomni reentering Jax's mind and visiting him again (Which is a different scene from the one in the episode as there's a bench there now). Jax freaking out right before she runs into the flashbombs doesn't mean that she was about to die and her glowing doesn't mean she suddenly "exploded" or died. The abstracted are still very much alive and still have their mental faculties they just have a changed body that freaks out when in light. If you get them in darkness they are able to move about again without being a danger to the rest of the circus members and you even see Queenie as well as Jax, Ribbit, and Kaufmo swimming in the aquarium together showing that despite not choosing to become abstracted they've all found peace with the situation they've been placed in and it isn't a fate worse than death.
And, that's not even getting into the discussion of whether or not it can be reversed which is up to personal interpretation. Even if they can't be restored to their original forms they still have control over their abstracted bodies (When in the dark) and are very much alive and aware in their mindscape and the non abstracted characters are implied to still be able to go into their mindscapes and visit them. It's actually a pretty happy ending all things considered even if they can't be restored to normal.
Jax is probably in her mindscape making up lost time with Ribbit (The thumbnail for episode 9 shows Ribbit's stargazing adventure's skybox implying they're all connected) and Kaufmo as well as having Pomni come in and talk to her to tell her how things are going out there.
So, I absolutely love both endings. Ever since I watched it years ago I felt that Promise was the absolute happiest outcome that the twins could have. Now with Sprouting Wings Shibata set out to outdo himself by making and even happier Happily Ever After ending.
The key difference between Promise and Sprouting Wings is that in Promise while Mio is able to reach Mayu's heart Mayu still has to take a chance and trust her that she's never going to abandon her despite not really feeling like they're one anymore like she did when they were children. In this ending Mayu is actively going against her fearful nature (Likely due to Mio saving her as well as seeing that Yae had been trying to come back for Sae all these years and finally was able to do so) and developing as a character/person and living on with Mio despite the uncertainty of the future.
In Sprouting Wings Mio and Mayu fall into the Abyss together and they both finally open up about their true feelings (Mayu telling Mio why she fell all those years ago and that a world without her has no meaning to her, and Mio telling Mayu that the world they envisioned together was beautiful because Mayu was in it and that if she wants to return to that time they can). They resolve to both live and die together and a Crimson Butterfly is formed out of this resolution which fully rejoins them as one being in mind and spirit like they were before Mayu's fall (Mayu saying I remember this feeling...) They are then saved by Yae and Sae and they move forward with no uncertainty that their promise will ever be broken (Mayu even leading Mio forward in Remaining Sun rather than the opposite).
Promise is a Happy Ending that forces the characters to compromise and realize that even if they can't become one again they can still live with and support the other hand in hand and that that's all that they can ask for. Sprouting Wings is a more traditional Happy Ending where their core conflict is resolved and they are given what both have been wanting the entire game. Both have value so which does everyone think is better?
I've read that Megumi is a much more sympathetic and tragic character in the original novel than she is in either the Manga or the Anime. To those who have read the original story what are the key differences between that version of her vs the other two incarnations?
I think the finale is the perfect cap to the series with the biggest emotional payoff I've seen in something since I first played Undertale back in 2015. It was incredibly well written and very deep and capped off each of the characters arcs in a poetic way.
A lot of people misinterpret Jax's ending in episode 9 as being either a case of "And I must scream" or "Braindead/Identity death" but the ending is actually a lot more hopeful than that. There is so much evidence in the show that abstraction isn't actually dying and that the people inside are alive and aware inside such as when Kinger touched Abstracted Queenie and all of her eyes closed as if reveling in his touch again.
The biggest piece of evidence is the thumbnail for episode 9 which is entirely unique in the series.
This thumbnail is different from every other thumbnail in the series in that it shows a scene from something that doesn't happen in the episode proper. Every other thumbnail is a 1/1 recreation of a scene that happens in the episode it's placed in. This shows Jax and Pomni sitting on a bench talking implying that Pomni still has the ability to visit Jax and talk to her even after the end of the episode. The skybox also is the same as the one from Ribbit's Suggestion Box (The Stargazing one) which could imply that the abstractions all have a linked mindscape and Jax has the ability to visit Ribbit and Kaufmo and make amends for the mistakes she's made.
Even if Jax is never able to unabstract (Which is still a potential possibility) she is able to find a certain amount of peace and not be screwed over in the worst way possible for all eternity.
No offense to Goose but the character she wrote is clearly not "Irredeemable" nor is she a character that "Always made bad choices". Simplifying it down to that just downplays the abusive upbringing Jax had as well as the incredibly traumatic life she had on the street after thinking she accidentally killed her mother (Which would not have been her fault even if she had because of what that woman put her through). Despite that trauma she was able to lead a good life and make bonds with people in the circus when she first arrived showing she didn't start out as toxic despite how she was raised.
She's a problematic person but only because of her own pain and suffering. Also she does get a form of redemption in the end when she acknowledges her terrible actions. Had she been allowed to come back or should she ever come back it's been confirmed by Micheal Korvach that she would make amends for what she's done. Not only that but her macroverse counterpart (Who lived the same life as her before the scan) was able to change her life around. That doesn't sound like someone who is "Irredeemable".
Jax isn't a great person but her reaction to Ribbit unintentionally pressuring her secret/trauma out of her because of their bond (Jax said that she was uncomfortable with giving any more information than she already gave but Ribbit said "Do you trust me?" which made her feel pressured into answering) and thus wanting to separate from them was within her right to do and at no point did she try to isolate Ribbit from anyone else in the group until Ribbit kept coming back and forcing her to go back to that night that she was (in her mind) forced to overshare.
Jax is allowed to withdraw from a friendship for that reason and as sympathetic as Ribbit is they were continuously bringing up that trauma back to the forefront of Jax's mind. I understand wanting to fix their mistake but it might have been better to lay low for a while and allow Jax the time to come back to her (Because she wasn't hostile to Ribbit at first it was after Ribbit kept trying to reconnect before she was ready that she got like that.)
Therefore that only leaves Jax's treatment of Gangle which...yeah, isn't great but people who are abused can perpetuate the cycle. The point is though that Jax wasn't like that when she first entered the circus showing that she was never "irredeemable." She could have gotten better with enough time and that's what makes it so tragic is that there was always the potential for improvement.
I don't hate either of these characters but I have seen some really...passionate responses to their existences so I'm curious who is more hated by the community.
Seriously, I want to replace my old 480p DVD's so badly but I don't want to jump the gun and buy the regular 1080p blu ray if there's a 4K version just around the corner. Why haven't they brought this over yet?
Would Ursula have been forced to honor her agreement and give up on her plans of domination?
Do these people not realize that Zooble is in this show and has their own arc as well as development and as well as a personality that feels fleshed out and separate from the fact they're trans and they're a really positive influence on the rest of the cast? At not point in the show did I get the impression that Gooseworx was writing "Trans Women bad because trauma" but rather creating a complex and tragic character that just so happens to have her bad aspects rooted in the trauma she received from a bad coming out experience from the person who should have loved and accepted her the most. Jax being an a hole and Jax being Trans are two separate things and it never felt like the show was vilifying Jax for being Trans or justifying her behavior even when we learn her sympathetic backstory.
IDK, I feel like every group of person has the propensity to be good or bad and that no one is a monolith of wholesome bean or toxic cesspool when it comes to personality types/character traits. The idea that every character needs to be the former for it to be good representation honestly is kind of offensive to me because it infantalizes minority groups rather than looking at them as complex human beings the same as everyone else.
Sorry for the rant, I just suddenly got recommended a BUNCH of "Jax is a bad Trans character" videos on YouTube out of nowhere despite not watching a single one and they were getting lots of likes so it made me feel like am I wrong for thinking this is one of the great tragic characters of our lifetime?
For those that have played both. Which set of Remake Exclusive Endings did you feel was a better addition to the story and characters of 2? The Wii ones or PS5 ones?
This is just a question to see where the overall fanbase who has played both to completion stands on opinion about them. Fatal Frame 2 original is a beloved classic and is one of the few games to receive two from the ground up remakes each with their own unique gameplay and story content. Which one hit more for you in both regards (New gameplay and new story content)?
What's the overall favorite side story in this game in the community and what's the least favorite? My favorite is the second Sae one where >!Sae is confirmed to have been laughing on the outside but was weeping over what she was doing to the villagers on the inside!< and my least favorite one (I still liked it) was the Azami one because it feels pretty random compared to all the others.
Now that the game has been out for a bit how do people feel about the new mechanic where the ghosts will hide behind doors and jumpscare you? Do you feel it's an effective way of building tension/enhancing fear or is this this game's equivalent of the Ghost Hand mechanic where it's annoying rather than scary?
How come they decided to replace Misty for Advanced Generation but for Johto (Which was also a new region that had its own unique game cast) they decided to keep her? What was different about that generation (Despite also having different main characters in the games) compared to Gen 3's?
And if so what is it that makes you have it on rather than turning it off?
I know this is a kind of different question but I was wondering if it was possible to use reshade with the game if you've already installed the launcher and mod? I've tried but when I hit the home button it doesn't pop up. Do I need to uninstall everything, install reshade, select the settings I want, and then reinstall the Memoria/Moguri mod to use it?
Think about it. You and your best friend cut ties and then said best friend bakes a homemade pie and comes over saying that she was in the wrong and that she's sorry and still wants to be friends. You believe her and make amends and then she drugs your entire family while also stabbing you with sleeping medicine while you are fully awake to see it happen.
IDK I felt kind of bad for her having her feelings manipulated by her best friend like that. Would hurt really bad.
