Except IB, which other sectors pay very well and aren’t as competitive or well-known (London)

Just to clarify, I’m not talking about quant trading or HF or PE, I mean which other sectors which aren’t as prestigious or as “elite” but may quite well (maybe even similar to IB)

This regardless of wlb but if you can comment on that then that would be great

For those of you who are in the industry, which other verticals have you looked at and been like, “why don’t people apply more for this instead of IB”?

Thanks

A*A*A in maths, bio and chem. Offering tutoring at reasonable prices

I was once that B/C student but learnt how to study and worked really hard to get the grades so now I want to help someone here

10 A* and 1 A at GCSE

I can do 1-1 sessions at very good prices and will not stop explaining something until you fully understand. Will also give you free resources (which I paid for) to help with your revision

If you have any further questions then do let me know

What to talk about in first coffee chat?

So I’m going to have my first coffee chat in the evening today. It’s with an alumni of my university (target). I am first year

He now works in PE which is my end goal

I’m from the UK and the main aim of the call is to ask for advice regarding getting spring weeks (basically mini internships in spring of first year which can be converted into second year summer internships)

Can someone explain what I should talk to him about, how long the chat should be, do I go straight into the conversation with questions and asked him stuff, how long to build a relationship etc

18 and need some serious career advice please

I got my A Level results and fortunately got 2 A* and 1 A which is great because it means I got my place at Warwick to study Economics

In year 13 I applied for 4/5 dentistry options and my fifth was Econ at Warwick. 4/4 rejections from dentistry and I decided I’d just go with Warwick since I want to get into high finance (IB, PE or HF etc) and make a lot of money in London.

I actually thought I wouldn’t get the grades for dentistry and since I was contextual for Econ, I could get lower grades and still get in

Now that I have the grades for dentistry I’m not sure if I should reapply since there’s also the UCAT and interviews. I failed last time purely because of UCAT (1950/2700) and I’m not really sure if I can do any better this time

I can’t defer my entry and also reapply through UCAS, I would have to reject my Warwick offer

Can someone please advise and help me. This is somewhat a good problem to have because at least I have my A Level results and don’t have to resit but I don’t know what to do

Also, just to make clear, I genuinely do enjoy finance and am interested in pursuing that. It’s just how cooked the job market is, and the fact that dentistry gives me security and also good pay

Is PWM mainly for nepos and people with connections?

Starting researching more about WM/PWM and so many people have been saying that it’s really hard to get into and mainly for the sons of clients of these firms

Can someone tell me a bit about the application system. I’m guessing it’s not as competitive as IB and HFs right?

What are WM firms looking for in candidates exactly? What skills should I start developing and what should I start learning?

What should I do differently to IB recruitment if I want to get into PWM?

(Incoming first year at Warwick uni)

From London if that makes a difference

How did you decide if you want to work in M&A/PE or S&T/AM/trading?

For those who work in any of the sectors above (or anything similar like PWM, HF etc):

How did you know you wanted to go into that part of high finance and not the other?

I’m 18 and thought I’d want to go into M&A but I recently did some trading simulations and an AM one and really enjoyed it

But also not sure which one I’m innately good at since I’ve always heard that trading is something people are just naturally good at (which I may not be)

Any advice or guidance would be appreciated

Incoming first year looking for a mentor to break into high finance

So hopefully I’ll be at Warwick this September

I’m looking to pursue a career in IB M&A but also looking at other sectors like AM, S&T etc so anyone in the high finance space would be great (not restricting it to just IB)

Just looking for someone who can help guide me through spring week applications so that I can learn from their experience. I’d really appreciate it if you could reach out (or if you know someone like that and you could inform them)

Thanks

Online Test Prep help (Spring Weeks)

Going to be applying for spring weeks in London (Finance)

I want to start preparing for the online assessments as I’m guessing that’s one of my weak points

Not sure where to start exactly. I did a few tests on assessment day and the rest are locked (need to pay)

I’m alright with paying for a prep website but I’d want to stick to just one so which one would you recommend? There’s so many out there and I want to make sure I’m doing questions which reflect the actual test to an extent

Also, how do I know which sections to practice. Eg whether I need to do critical thinking or not.

How can I find out for each bank which ones they use?

What kind of work experience do I need for Finance spring weeks? UK

Starting university (Warwick) in September and will be applying for spring weeks. Looking to apply at top banks as I want to pursue IB M&A

But I have no finance related work experience at all and not sure what to do exactly since I just recently changed what I want to do for a career

Is work experience at a normal high street accounting firm good enough?

Are online courses like forage valuable? Do recruiters actually care about them?

What else could I do? Any projects or certain research?

Thanks

18M from the UK looking for a Mentor

18 years old, born and bred in the UK. Just finished college (which is high school in the US)

I have an offer to study Finance at a target university but long term I want to build my own business and learn as much as I can about entrepreneurship.

So far I’ve tried selling digital products online, selling websites to local businesses and appointment setting.

I’m looking for someone who is ahead of me in life and has much more business experience, who can give me the opportunity to speak to them and learn about their early days in business. Eager to be taught by such a person and want to build something for my future

Thanks

Need help with cold calling

I’m 18 years old and started an agency where we can integrate AI chatbots into businesses’ WhatsApp/instagram or even websites so that the AI can deal with any queries. This include reservations for restaurants but also qualifying buyers and sellers for real estate agents

For the past 2 days I’ve been cold calling businesses with no luck. Did about 30 yesterday and 50 today. I know these are rookie numbers and nothing in comparison to the experience of others but I’d still appreciate some guidance

Most of the time I barely even get a chance to properly explain or even get in touch with a branch manager. Some objects include “we’re not interested”, “we don’t want to change our systems” and many more

What can I do at this point

Can someone pls point me in the right direction

How to remove the fear of failure at 18?

I’m 18 years old and want to start something which could turn out to go well for me or could go horribly wrong.

I wouldn’t lose much money but it’s more about the fact that I would have an online presence and I’d fail publicly

I’m brown and so I have this failure of “log kya kahenge” which means “what will people say/think (about me)? It’s just the fear of embarrassment and “cringe” even though what I’m going to do isn’t some influencer bs but more like providing value

I’d appreciate it if someone could give some advice or tell me about their experience and how things worked out for them

How do you get over the mindset of “log kya kahenge”?

18 years old and just want to learn from the experience of other people

How do you stop worrying about “log kya sochenge” when you want to do something (ie start a business or a podcast or anything where it will be public)

It’s more about extended family and their comments - get a real job, stop wasting your time etc. sometimes it’s not even about them saying it directly but the fact that you know once you leave the room it will start

And then also the doubts that if i fail (which can happen ofc since it’s business) then it will be even worse.

Would really appreciate any advice on this

Any successful business owners down for a quick interview?

I’m 18 years old from Birmingham and starting a media channel where we do interviews with successful business owners

Would just be some quick questions about what you do, how you got to this position in life and what advice you’d have for the younger generation (interview can be longer if you’d like)

If there’s any specific questions you’d like to be asked that can be arranged for as well

It can be any business (trades, construction, hospitality, SAAS etc)

Location and time can be discussed

Thanks

What path do I take to eventually start my own PE shop?

I’m 18 years old.

I know this is going to come across as satire or like I’m just dreaming but it’s a genuine question. I know it’s not something I’m going to achieve in the next 2 months or something but I’m in it for the long game

Can someone actually explain what is required to start your own PE firm? Do you have to have worked in PE? Because I see so many people open M&A or PE firms without having worked in the sector

Not sure if you guys know of people like Yusufa Sey and Oscar Lindhardt (on YouTube), but how did they start their firms. Yusufa Sey isn’t exactly from a finance background I believe

They are just examples thought. Generally, have you yourself had any experience in this, or do you know someone who started their own PE firm?

(Btw this can all apply to M&A or even VC)

Thanks

Anyone here whose dad is an MD at an IB in London?

Does anyone’s father/mother work in any very senior role in high finance (IB, S&T, HF, PE etc) in London (or even NYC)?

Can you share how things have been for you in terms of finding a role at a top firm, getting internships etc? Would you say that your parents helped a lot?

Were you able to do something for your close friends as well?

And is there anything your parent said regarding what they’re looking for in students when it comes to hiring them as interns or even full time roles? What advice have they given you?
