The best villain is killed early, and the series never quite recovers.

-By ‘early’, I’m counting as ‘sometime in the first half’.

-The death itself can be fantastic, but still counts for this if there’s a noticeable drop in quality/enjoyability afterwards.

-John Kramer (Saw)

Honestly, this one is more impressive than anything else. In a 10-film saga, you really kill off the big bad in 3? Impressive, and fascinating at times, but still definitely didn’t help the quality.

Shown best by Kramer-focused Saw X being arguably the best in the series since 2. (I know 6 has shooters, I’m one of them, but ssshh)

-Sammy Lawrence (Bendy and the Ink Machine).

The twisted cult leader became a fan favourite so immediately that it’s hard to believe he was killed in the same Chapter he was introduced. 2 out of 5, as well. And ever since then the developers have been scrambling to subtly (and not so subtly) hint at his return, in the later chapters of BATIM, in The Dark Revival, and for a third time, in The Cage. None of which have been satisfying so far. Maybe third time lucky?…

-Kilgrave (Jessica Jones).

Right now I’d say people have… mixed opinions on Season 2 and 3, but virtually everyone agrees that they pale in comparison to S1. And a huge reason for that is Kilgrave being the main threat. From both a writing standpoint and an acting one, Tenant brings an energy to the show that no other antagonist comes even close to.

Not even himself, no, hallucinations don’t count.

Speaking of which…

-Moriarty (BBC Sherlock)

Kilgrave and Moriarty especially are why I mentioned that the deaths themselves can be great. The Reichenbach Fall is a brilliant finale to Sherlock… but not a mid-show finale, and what comes after proves it. Magnussen feels like reheated Moriarty leftovers, and the less said about Eurus the better.

Not a musical… except for the villain song.

-The Fairy Godmother (Shrek 2) (Holding Out For A Hero)

Honestly, was pretty dead set on not including this at first, as it technically isn’t a proper musical number. As in, it’s actually diegetic (she’s putting on a big performance)- but, come on. I couldn’t not include it.

-Bowser (The Mario Movie) (Peaches)

-Professor Ratigan (The Great Mouse Detective) (World’s Greatest Criminal Mind AND Goodbye So Soon, my man is such an underrated Disney villain that he gets TWO)

-Captain Gutt (Ice Age) (Master of the Seas)

-GLADoS (Portal and Portal 2) (Still Alive and Want You Gone respectively).

[Hated Trope] - Series more or less abandons its original premise, becoming less interesting.

*Despicable Me*- the first movie was full of Spy VS Spy-esque shenanigans as Gru clashed against fellow supervillains, and they could have gone in so many different directions! Even after his personal redemption at the end of 1.

Instead, Gru is a downright do-gooder by the start of 2, and is basically indistinguishable from a hero from that point on. It’s not great.

*Helluva Boss* needs little to no introduction to how it abandoned its premise, a seemingly episodic show about demons working Hell’s version of an office job- assassinations- quickly abandoned for focusing on a seasons-spanning romance/drama between Blitzö and Stolas.

I love these Marvel villains, but I realise I’ve never really read any notable comics with them. I’d love some recommendations!

Sauron, Arcade, Taskmaster, M.O.D.O.K, Spiral, and Mysterio, to be precise.

Hope this kind of post isn’t too low quality, would love to hear any advice on what to check out!

[Loved Trope]- The Brave Coward.

Bravery is not the absence of fear. It is doing the heroic thing in the face of being pants-pissingly terrified. And nothing embodies that more than these guys.

They’ll get the job done! Eventually. Just let them scream it off for a bit.

-Luigi (Mario)

-Kobeni (Chainsaw Man)

-Shaggy and Scooby-Doo (Scooby-Doo)

-Usopp (One Piece). You could maybe lump Chopper or Nami in with him, but he’s easily the most common of the three.

The antagonist is SO much more powerful that physically fighting them isn’t even CONSIDERED.

-Bill Cipher (Gravity Falls). Yes, the Shacktron does throw hands with him at one point, but it’s never meant to defeat him, just serve as a very temporary distraction for the main characters. In every other instance, they need to find a very different way to defeat him…

-Caine (Digital Circus). He’s a god in the machine, and all the characters are in the machine. Makes sense.

-Dormammu (MCU). Even with an Infinity Stone, the best you can hope for is to bore him to the point of leaving you alone.

-Mr Mxyzptlk. He’s certainly not the most deep Superman antagonist, but I genuinely love whenever he pops up, since he serves as a puzzle to be solved rather than a baddie to be punched.

No Law and a New Order (No Man’s Land) has been voted as the best SCARFACE comic story! Now, what’s the best PROFESSOR PYG comic story?

Pyg has always been a bit of a dark horse Batman villain for me, largely because body horror is the type of horror that gets under my skin the easiest. No pun intended.

So, very curious to see what kind of comic stories this relatively recent terror is packing!

I’ve been drawing my characters regularly for about 6 months now! What do I still need to work on?

Going for a more cartoony style, as you can probably tell- would love to hear any feedback!

Batman: Prey has been voted as the best HUGO STRANGE comic story! Now, what’s the best BLACK MASK comic story?

Is Black Mask even that big a bad guy to go this high on the list here? Maybe not, but hey, I like his design. Not as much as I like the next guy, but that can wait.

For now, let’s hear about Black Mask! What’s his best claims to fame comic wise? Feel like it’s always going to be difficult for a more ‘normal’ gangster to stand out with Batman’s rogues, but hey, if Penguin can do it…

You have 100 points to make a team! Who do you pick?

-No character duplicates.

-As far as you know, you are building this team to go up against an extremely powerful enemy sorcerer. You have no other data on them.

-“EOS Yuji” is for main JJK, not Modulo.

(Loved Trope) In a battle, both fighters are equally unnerved/impressed by the other’s abilities.

Kenjaku VS Yuki (Jujutsu Kaisen). Yes, yes, another JJK post, I know. This is easily the fight I’m most interested in seeing animated, and I love the dynamic of how, unlike, say, Gojo v Sukuna, both of them REALLY don’t want to fight the other because of their powers.

Sonic VS Megaman (Sonic & Mega Man: Worlds Collide). It’s a crossover, so it makes sense that the writing will treat both characters equally powerful, but it’s still a trope I love to see all the same.

Franky VS Nero (One Piece, Water 7 Arc). The fight that inspired me to make this- I’m currently reading OP for the first time right now, so spoiler tags would be appreciated in the comments. It’s probably a fight that NO-ONE caught up with One Piece remembers, but hey, it made me remember how much I loved this trope, so I made this post for it.

The Original Saga of Ra’s Al Ghul, Batman #242-244, has been voted as the best RA’S AL GHUL comic story! Now, what’s the best CLAYFACE comic story?

With this guy’s big cinematic debut coming out soon, I must admit I’m actually very curious to know just what good comics he’s had in the past!

He’s actually gotten some great recognition on the small screen, both famously having some of BTAS’s best episodes, and being a main character in 2004’s The Batman- how about the comics world?

A few more moves I think we’re missing!

To be clear, these are mainly made with VGC Doubles in mind, but I’m sure they would find some use in Singles, too!

Going off each of them one by one:

-Ouija Attack just seems like a cool, ghostly move that, despite its crazy nature, is pretty fairly balanced with its randomness. It would work like Revival Blessing, where you select a specific fainted ‘mon to use a move from.

-Honestly, I was genuinely shocked when I discovered Fireball wasn’t a real move yet. So here we are, with a handful of relevant users and, I think, a good reason to consider using it or Flamethrower!

-Meanwhile, for Noxious Dive, I think it’s a shame that such a unique gameplay element like Dig is never, ever used in doubles- so tried my best to make it good, but still balanced!

Batman: Fear of Faith has been voted as the best SCARECROW comic story! Now, what’s the best MR FREEZE comic story?

Yes, this is only for *comic* stories, so no films, games, and unfortunately, no television stories for good old Victor!

I’m particularly curious what will come up for this one- be sure to upvote your favourites!!

Going through my old Bionicle collection! Wish me luck!

Destructive and wannabe creative kid I was, none of my Bionicle sets lasted very long until I took them apart and combined them into my very own MOCs. So now I’m going through my enormous collection of smash (well, half of it belonged to my older half-brother, but who’s counting), to see what I can try and rebuild!

Wish me luck!

Who, outside of the top 3, can beat Yuta in a 1v1?

Assuming anyone *can*, ofc. And I’m not even a big Yuta glazer, genuinely curious to know.

Speaking of which: Yes, Kenjaku is #3. Don’t play games with me.

Introducing: The first Champions-exclusive moves! Plus some extras.

As someone that likes using Mono teams, and using more unusual Pokémon, thought that the Crash moves could be a potentially fun addition to the metagame!

As emphasised in the fourth image, these moves are intended for a focus on Doubles, and to be doubly clear (no pun intended)- *only the first three are meant to be exclusive to Champions*. Mainly because it would probably be too powerful a move for Gym Leaders to have such easy access to lmao

Other than that, Cursed Shriek gives a little new life to an almost unused move type (for good reason) of Future Sight, Indignant Smash should *hopefully* help with the abundance of Fake Out usage in the current Doubles meta, and Siphon Strike… I just want to help physical Electric attackers, man.

u/Desolation82 — 3 months ago

To be clear, these are mainly made with VGC in mind, but I’m sure they would find some use in Singles, too!

Going off each of them one by one:

-Sap Explosion gives us a big spread move for a (supposedly) less powerful type, but once that’s decently balanced (I hope), by carrying over the Tera Blast mechanic!

-Blazing Glory gives the Fire type another physical move, a *very* powerful one in the right circumstances- just gotta make those circumstances!

-Stunning Strike is a physical Electric attack and, I’m not gonna sugarcoat it, meant to be a balanced Dire Claw.

-Subterfuge gives the Bug type a 120 power move- with the drawback that should be expected from it!

-Same with Stomping Grounds and the Rock type! Maybe the name is a little confusing, might make people think it’s a Ground type move, but couldn’t resist the pun.

-Nightmare Strike just seemed like a fun niche that hadn’t been covered yet.

-I’m sure I won’t be the first person to make an Eclipse weather concept, but I imagine it would be a welcome addition to the current weather war!

Just let me know your thoughts! I imagine some of these might be overturned lmao
