What are the big events & places to go for a next week NYC-introduction visit? (May 19-26)

Hi guys!

I’m planning on moving to NYC from Reno, Nevada in the upcoming months and next week (starting Tuesday) I am taking a week long trip to Brooklyn.

Since I’m across the country, I’ve been struggling to find the spaces online that organize information for gay parties/events, but I wanted to make sure I had some experience in the community when I visit to see what it’s like.

Some things about me: 22 years old, chub, mixed race
I do tend to like slimmer guys that are also around my age range.

Would I have a hard time getting “attention” in most places?

What big events, parties or places should I check out to get an accurate representation of the experience in NYC gay life based on my interests? Is there anything major coming out next week that I should be buying tickets for or planning ahead of time?

I’m sure this is asked a lot, but it’s a bit difficult to find static, straightforward and updated information. Thank you so much for your patience!

[TOMT] [SONG] Song that sounds like the start of Sexy to Someone by Clairo

I remember a common song that was used in movie trailers for coming-of-age movies. It sounded like Sexy to Someone by Clairo, particularly the piano/organ mixture in the beginning.

I tried to find it 2 years ago and I ended up figuring it out but I can’t remember what it is again and my browsing history & Google Activity aren’t helping me out.

Please help me figure out what the song is, I have OCD and it’s killing it. If I remember correctly, the real song was from a male band of some kind. Thank you so much!!

It makes me so sad to see people expect and enjoy music that is equally as miserable as they feel. Some people love escapism songs like these. Why is upbeat, happy music considered dead because we are in dark times?

EDIT: Mind you, my post isn’t about Lizzo exclusively. I hear this argument all the time. Literally saw the conversation with Lady Gaga’s Devil Wears Prada music last week as well…

The point of this discussion is supposed to about why people prefer sad, melancholic music over upbeat, happy music.

Sure, there are exceptions to the rule, but even with Taylor Swift… people prefer her returning to her sad music (TTPD, Folklore, evermore, etc.) rather than upbeat synth-pop and consider that her best.

Most pop singles these days are medium paced. Not really happy, but not extremely slow. Why do we consider music that is sad, to have more depth than upbeat bangers?

Been watching for 2 years and tonight his microphone is REALLY loud and off-balanced with his voice being louder in the right ear and quieter in the left (when listening with headphones). Happening on multiple devices, headphones, etc.
