Why doesn't the city of LA offer "civil concessions" to those who volunteer/pick up trash/clean graffiti/do other needed stuff in LA?

Alright hear me out. We all know the city/state is broke. And we know there's tons of shit that needs to be done here especially in the SFV (trash/graffiti/weeds/etc). People always float around the idea of paying homeless people to clean up trash. But...

What if any able bodied person could get "civil/government coupons" for doing volunteer work on a contract basis for the city of LA?

Examples of concessions/coupons:

-A coupon for free auto registration for 1 year.

-A single "get out of jail free card" for a parking ticket/minor traffic violation where it gets dismissed immediately with no point on your record.

-One free expedited passport service.

-A 30 day sales tax exemption card for personal purchases (Up to $10,000 in exempted tax).

-Front of the line passes for walk in DMV transactions/courthouse/county clerk services.

-A free/expedited home construction/building permit.

-Free FastTrak/Express Lane Transponders

-$500 DMV gift card (that you can spend on license renewals/vehicle transfers/customized plates/boat and trailer reg/etc).

-$500 County Clerk's office Gift Card. (That you can spend on document filing.)

And I'm sure we could think of a million more things. These cost the government absolutely nothing (upfront). They only cost the government in unrealized profits (which aren't guaranteed anyway).

Imagine if you could go out one day and work with a crew of people picking up trash somewhere (similar to community service except its not with other potential convicts), volunteer at animal shelters, donate blood to the red cross (because of the blood shortage), do jury duty (instead of the ridiculous $12/day cash pay or whatever it is), volunteer at voting centers, cut overgrown weeds, remove graffiti, remove illegal signs on utility poles,

I think the city would be spotless if they actually did that.

Best tires for a 12th gen (most recent gen) Corolla?

My stock Yokohama Avid GT's (205/55/16) are almost worn out on my Hybrid and I'm deciding which tires to get now.

I made the expensive mistake of getting Michelin Defender 2's on my previous corolla (11th gen) which ended up killing my MPG, made the steering feel mushy, and they ended up developing premature cracks/dry rot within the first 3 years (a common issue with Michelins that I wasn't aware of before I bought them).

So I guess I'm looking for an OEM-like (or better) tire. I'm in Southern CA so I don't need a snow capable tire.

I just want to preserve the OEM mpg, have good steering response, and good grip and decent/acceptable hydroplaning resistance in the rare event that it rains here.

Any guesses on how long the LG TV Labaton arbitration will take?

I remember filling it out maybe a year ago on their website and uploaded all the proof/receipt/pic of the sticker on the back of my TV.

I never made a labaton account and haven't got any updates since.

I just made a NEW labaton account to fill out a couple more settlements and the old LG one didn't show up on my account even though I used the same info. Can't find the old emails either in my gmail "all mail" folder.

Just curious if anyone has any updates about this one.

Think I can pour this lye bath into a 4 inch sewer cleanout without spilling over the edges and destroying my moms flower garden next to it?

Or does anyone have any tips on how to rig up a funnel large enough for this application? I'm pretty sure when I go to pour it, it's gonna be a 6-8 inch wide waterfall at first.

Are there any re-sole options under $40 USD (even DIY)?

I see a lot of people recommending resoling birkenstocks when the outsole wears out but I did some looking and couldn't really find any realistic options for under $80-120 after tax/shipping.

I bought a new open box pair from an Ebay seller for $100 so it wouldn't make any sense to pay that much to resole them. I'd rather buy a new pair.

Or is there a cheaper method that I don't know about? It seems like $40 would be the max anyone should pay to resole a pair of Birkenstocks for it to be worthwhile. And a DIY kit should cost no more than $10-15 (given the value of the sandals when new).

Is the triangular toe ridge always supposed to fit inside the space between your big and middle toe?

I bought a pair of 44 mens (regular/wide), had the proper space in the heel area, proper space in the toe area, but noticed my big toe was sitting directly ON TOP of that ridge (which made for a not so natural feeling fit like I had to curl my toes to keep them on). When I slid the sandals forward so the ridge fit in the crease between my big and middle toe (how they're supposed to fit), I had way too much space in the heel and my toes felt cramped/too close to the front.

Returned them and just ordered 43 instead but I'm worried they might be too small.

With regular sneakers, I usually buy mens size 11 even though the length of my foot is closer to 10 (just barely past 10 on a brannock device) because I have a very high instep and 10s/10.5s are always too tight in the instep area and my feet are just barely on the wide side (but not full on wide).

So I was just curious if its pretty much mandatory for that ridge to fit inside your big/middle toe pocket gap in order to achieve a proper fit? Or does anyone wear them like how the 44's were with me (big toe sitting on top of the ridge completely ignoring the position of the toe ridges)?

Looking forward to trying the 43's but I'm thinking there's a chance Birkenstocks just weren't made for my foot shape.

Would be a game changer if Birkenstock charged $50-100 extra to send you a custom mold for your feet that you mail back and their machine makes a perfectly molded/sized footbed for you.

Can someone explain how making your package heavier reduces shipping costs?

Like at what weight does it start saving you money and when is it worthwhile?

I have lots of items for sale right now between 2oz and 2lbs and am wondering if this will benefit me.

If I'm selling an airtag and the shipping quote for the 2oz package is like $5.80, how much cheaper will it be if If I make the package weigh 4 pounds somehow?

Does it work on pirateship too?

Just slipped and fell in the shower for the first time in my life at age 30.

Was wearing rubber foam sandals all day working in the backyard. Must have had some dirt and dust on the bottom of my feet and dead skin lightly rubbing off which created a SUPER slippery film the moment my feet touched the wet bathtub. I stepped in like I always do, foot totally slipped out in front of me, I fell backwards and slammed the back of my head into the porcelain tile wall. and ended up on my ass. Ripped the shower curtain trying to grab onto it while falling and damaged the curtain rod.

Didn't get knocked out or cut, but felt like I had a MINOR concussion but am good now luckily. Could have been a lot worse.

Just wanted to share.

TEST SWIPE YOUR FEET ON THE WET SHOWER/TUB FLOOR BEFORE COMMITTING TO FULLY STEPPING IN! Especially if you have dirty/grimy feet.

My coils are pretty expensive so I'm considering NGK or Hitachi instead of Denso as they are supposed to be quality Japanese brands also.

Just curious if anyone had any negative experiences with them? Or have they cheaped out in recent years and shifted manufacturing outside of their home country like other brands have?

▲ 4 r/Warts

I had a 1/4 inch diameter plantar wart on my foot for 3 years that I never treated. Hoping for it to go away on its own (which it never did). It didn't grow until I STARTED treating it with all the typical over the counter options (Salycilic Acid plantar wart pads, etc) and it eventually grew to 3/4 inches in diameter over a 8 month period despite keeping it covered every single day, debriding, reapplying SA, keeping it covered constantly with some type of bandage/tape. (Along with some small satellite warts that popped up on the bottom of my foot.)

I decided to try an experiment that I came up with using my own psuedo-science. AND IT WORKED.

Basically, I went and got an HPV vaccine (Gardisil-9). Yes, I know it isn't supposed to protect against the same strain of HPV that cause hand/foot warts. But I went home immediately after and got a razor blade and cut a bunch of "tic tac toe" marks onto the wart itself until it started bleeding, then covered it with some Equate liquid bandage (a sealant you apply onto a cut that dries to a nail-polish like hardness).

My idea was, the immune reaction from the vaccine might "send" antibodies to the open wound and help kill the wart, considering that the vaccine was designed for a similar strain of a virus.

I also started taking Solgar brand zinc picolinate 22mg supplements daily for the next two weeks (and am still finishing off the bottle taking it every now and then).

When I debrided the wart about 5 days after the vaccine, I re applied the liquid bandage, and noticed that the blood vessels didn't grow out like they would before within 24 hours. After two debridings over the next week and a half, there were no more visible blood vessels and my foot no longer felt like it had a little pebble stuck under the skin.

Two months later, the wart is completely gone and my footprint has healed back 100% and my foot is completely wart free.

The smaller satellite warts even disappeared on their own within about a week after getting the vaccine.

I'm not sure if this was just coincidental and I finally killed the wart using over the counter treatment options, or if the HPV vaccine/cutting method actually worked, but its worth a shot. I didn't have any side affects from the vaccine. Keep in mind, the HPV vaccine is 3 doses administered over about a year. But the very first dose (along with the post-shot cutting) seemed to help more than anything I tried previously.

I remember lurking on r/Reptime a few months back and some guy tested his Rolex bracelet (don't remember what factory) and it turned up positive for lead.

I was wearing my u1 black no date sub yesterday (particularly warm day) and when I took it off after wearing it all day, I noticed a blackish/grey dirty spot on my wrist where the bracelet sat (similar to how my fingers looked after loading lead pellets into my pellet gun when I was a kid). It washed off with soap though. I've never had that happen before on any of my other watches. It was my first time wearing it all day long and I wiped the bracelet down pretty well with a microfiber cloth and a tad of gun oil to shine it up when I first got it a couple weeks ago.

I know these are "supposed" to be made of 904 or 316 steel but was just curious if anyone has tested theirs.

I'm referring to the ST9 oyster bracelet specifically.

There is an abundance of home break-ins in my area currently and lishi tools are blowing up on tiktok and 16 year olds are literally picking locks within 10 seconds now (basically the kia boyz situation all over again) so I feel its time to harden security a bit.

Need some recommendations as I have no knowledge of anything beyond kwikset/schlage. Not looking for anything electronic/with a password.

I usually buy 5 quart jugs of Mobil1 0w-16 to do my oil changes and haven't been able to get it on the two normally priced websites to buy it from within the last two weeks (Walmart and Amazon) as its been sold out.

Walmart still has supertech but I'm not sure if I want to resort to that on such a new car.

All other weights of oil seem to be in stock, just 0w16 and 0w8 are affected. I don't buy OEM Toyota oil either, its too expensive for what it is in 0w16/0w8 weights.
