how to make that weird, glitchy kind-of drum noise you hear a lot in IDM, glitch pop and indietronica?

The following songs have this kind of sound, its like a sound almost compressed into nothing but little liquid clicks. I think it might be analog drum machien sounds sped up into pure compressed clicking sounds. A handful of examples of the sort of thing I'm talking about

Max Tunda- Acorns and lysine

the postal service- nothing better

styrofoam- nothings lost (extensively used across the album)

its almost staticy, but not abrasive in the slightest. any ideas?

a transcription of "There will never be another you" on bass, I cant wrap my head on this one

the section marked red, the D minor 7 flat five now presumably this has an A-flat and a F, but there is no D or C in this chord unless I'm misreading it, so I'm not sure how its a D-7b5. Am I misreading the chord- or is the presence of the D and C being implied by the use of chord tones (A-flat and F) alongside G and E? or am I just bungling everything ?

advice on a Dell Latitude C600 PCcard bay

I picked one of these old beasts up from a thrift store and I'm interested in using it as a word processor and a general fixer-upper. It has two slots for PCMCIA cards, and I was curious if anyone knew what size blanks would fit in it so that it doesn't have a giant gaping hole on the side for dirt to fit into?

also does anyone know if it'll handle a single stick of 512mb 100mhz PC100 SDram, or will I need to get two 256mb sticks?

sounds silly, but when one is doing arpeggios on the higher numbered notes of a scale (IE V, VI etc) how do you use the D and G strings?

for example, say I'm playing a A# major scale and I'm doing an arpeggiated 7 chord on the VIth degree of the scale (F##) which is on the 5th fret of the D string. I would need to play F##, followed by ##A, ##C and then a #e (enharmonic equivalent being G, B D and F on the string). But the issue this, if you're starting from the D string, you can get the 3rda nd the 5th of this chord, but the 7th is dropping onto a string that simply doesn't exist. Would I need to slide down to the 10th fret of the G string (F/E#) with my pinky in this case, or what? it seems like it breaks up the speed of the chord, but that could just be me needing practice?

edit: jeez sorry i didnt know you dont make sharp keys everyone can stop mentioning it now.

[s1-s4 spoilers] why does no one in the shadowy syndicate really like smoking man?

these guys aren't exactly like, personable, but it seems like they really despise smoking man. The british one calls him a "stupid old fool," the heavierset raspy one won't even look at him as he talks to him, and in group scenes they seem to assume the worst of his actions, don't really grant him the time of day etc.

this is even prior to him >!getting shot, which is obviously a pretty heavy indicator that they don't care about him at all.!<The other smoking men seem to at least have a respect for each other, but they really don't give a damn about smoking man.

anyones personal theories as to why that is, other than his supposed incompetence and screwups?

S4 Spoiler: why does smoking man/syndicate tolerate the bounty hunter?

So I was refreshed in "musings of a smoking man," that theres a security code dictating that the country an alien lands in must make immediate provisions to kill that creature. They illustrate this point by shooting an alien on screen.

My question then is: why does the smoking man, and his syndicate, tolerate and even work with the alien bounty hunter who first appears in colony/end game in season 2? he crashes down to earth in a space ship, causes a huge ruckus with the ship crewman who intercept him, then goes around killing people. He then returns a season later and starts killing more hybrids, and even meets with smoking man to heal Mulder's mother.

Now, the immediate explanation that pops into my mind is that simply because the bounty hunter works for the syndicate, the rules dont apply. Is that the case?

in your games, how have you run players going through a city?

first time traveller DM. players are soldiers getting a week of R&R on a hi-population class A-starport, industrialized planet. obviously they'll probably wanna get up to what soldiers do- drinking, carousing, trouble, but I'm curious to hear how yall have ran your cityscapes in terms of encounters, activities, etc.

cotton jacket thinning and breaking in certain places, and ive invested substantial time in putting band patches on it. How to repair it?

It's a foundry Young Mens 100% cotton (supposedly) that i had laying around for a while before last year, when I decided to turn it into a battle jacket. sewed a shitton of band patches on it, and earlier I discovered there are holes appearing where I put in studs (granted I shouldn't have put in studs on such thin fabric) and at many points, the fabric is so thin that if you stretch it you can see right through it. I really dont want to take all the patches off and start on a new jacket- is there any way that I can try and strengthen or reinforce this jacket so that it lasts a longer time? I've heard of sashiki but I'm not sure if that would help.

in range matrix and defenders matrix in book 4: mercenaries, the values have two separate entries divided by a dash. what does this mean?

how to calculate shares for a mercenary campaign?

Hi all, doing pre-emptive campaign planning for a CT based merc campaign. Admittedly I've never handled the business end/financial nitty gritty, so im trying to figure out how to handle the shares system. I can't think that a private receiving 1 share upon completion of a mission means receiving 1% of remaining profits after salaries and deductions have taken place- especially considering there could be hundreds of privates in a battalion. the numbers dont add up.

How would shares work in this instance?

any way to make the G string sound a little less wimpy?

I've got .45 D'addario nickel-wounds (I believe, the guy who last set up my bass said he didn't remember but he knew they were d'addarios) for my G string, and it just sounds so dang... thin. wimpy, plucky, a kind of "bwing bwing" sound. more like a guitar than a bass. is there any way to make it sound a little heftier? My next guess would be to get .55's or .50's on it, but if theres any other tricks that don't require me to buy something, I'd love to hear it.

edit: squier Jazz bass

Gym shorts that look like cargo/golf shorts, or cargo/golf shorts that feel like gym shorts? (US)

new rule at the warehouse i work at shoving boxes around. no more gym shorts cause occasionally were called to the front areas of the store and need to look "respectable." it's oftentimes humid in the warehouse, no central air, that sort of thing. are there any good pairs of gym shorts out there that have the appearance of cargo or golf shorts (the "acceptable shorts" now listed), or similarly, cargo/golf shorts that are as breathable and flexible as gym shorts? I had some bad experiences when I was younger with cargo shorts that would tear in the rear, so hence my reluctance.

I've got a Squier J-bass Affinity series, and I'm interested in thickening up the strings for metal. Looking online it says the Nut width is 1.5 inches, but I think that just means the actual bar itself is 1.5 inches across. I'm not sure if i have a tool small enough to measure the individual slots, so I was curious if there's a spec that says what gauges the string slots will tolerate.

both are pretty close- the ms-60b is slightly cheaper. But it's hard to see from demos if one or other does what I want from it best. I know the B1four has a darkglass emulator, but I'm not sure how good it actually sounds.

Does anyone have any experience with either they're willing to share?

Hello, me and my buddies are trying to form a bass-only death metal band. I want to make a sound kinda like Womb or Disembowlment, and I'm looking for a solid way to achieve the first step of distortion. I've heard the HM-2 (and by extension, HM-300) works fine for bass as it doesn't cut off too much low end, but I've heard also in comparison to the UM-300 its a little limited in how it can actually sculpt the sound.

Does anyone have any practical experience with either in this use case, or have words of advice/pedal recommendations?
