Younger people are way more brazen than I was… in rejecting religion.

I’m quite a bit older than my sister, she’s 9 years old… I’m almost 30. Both of us were raised in the same Catholic household and went to the same Catholic school.

It wasn’t until I was in my late teens I started to explore and reject religiosity. I feel that’s the same with my friends and peers. To say “I don’t believe in a God” when I was 9 years old would’ve received confused looks and gasps.

My 9 year old sister said… “I don’t believe in a God” a few days ago. Nobody really cared.

The younger generations are rejecting Christianity and are very comfortable expressing so in a way that wouldn’t have been acceptable 20 years ago.

The times are certainly a-changing… for the better? Maybe.

What is the average age of your congregation? How many kids/teens? How many 65+

How many members of your congregation are teens or children? How many are 65 plus.

I’ve been thinking about this lately as I’ve attended several congregations that are very old on average… can’t help but wonder if there is a pattern or if I’m just in one of those places.

Obviously rural congregations tend to trend older than city congregations EVERYWHERE.

On Wednesday I attended a congregation I haven’t in a year…

Quite a few people have been moved from other congregations to help out… one from about a 30 minute drive away. I know things are bad in the UK and I’m really seeing it now. I know another congregation that has 3 elders older than 80.

What is your local congregation like? Growth stalled? Shrinkage in membership? Mergers of congregations?
