at the age of 61, my dad's retiring so i made a website to help him find part time work

he spent ~40 years working, recently retired and is a bit hesitant about how to start his retirement post-career. doesn't want to fully stop, just wants something flexible that gets him out of the house and makes him feel useful

so i was doing some research for him and thought i could create something others can use too.

it's a 5-question quiz: his background, what he enjoys, what he's actually looking for and it spits out a personalized list of real gigs ranked by fit.

dadsnextgig.com

built it in a few weekends, would love feedback, and honestly curious if anyone else has dealt with this with their own parents.

Just got my chenyu guardian x-1. What’s next?

so far I have

choc Laurie, magnus slider toads, aura sand.

I think the chenyu is my favorite. I really like the 2-dimensional play and think I prefer mechanical sliders overall, because I keep dropping the magnetic sliders in the side of my car seat while driving lol.

any recommendation for my next one? I’m Hoping it fills a gap from the others I have. Thanks!

am i crazy or is the choc overrated

maybe it's because i got the corian one and it feels like and kind of cheap, but it seems a bit one dimensional? not hating on lautie, i think they make some cool stuff, but i don't know why everyone sings the praises of choc.

is it the social support? is it having someone remind you of your goals? curious what your relationship with your sponsor looks like

Dad just retired and keeps asking if he should get a part time job. What would you tell him?

my dads been working for ~35 yrs and he recently retired. he loves it so far, hiking with his buddies and spending more time with my mom. however, occasionally he asks me whether he should get a part time job. I don’t think it’s about the money, more he misses having a reason to be somewhere

what are some genuine use cases for llm besides ai wrapper

you see wrappers after wrappers, which is fine, but are there any examples of apps that use ai in clever ways, besides send directly to openai api?

web developer going into marketing

hi i just started indie developing my own apps. as someone with a background in software and web development, i wonder if there is a way to use this skill set to my advantage. any advice on the intersection of these fields and marketing?

games that aren't roguelike but scratch the same itch?

idk maybe i'm bored, but i keep coming back to boi even after buying the next big game. i've tried the usual people recommend nuclear throne, enter the gungeon. but i still keep coming back to isaac after 1000+ hrs. thought maybe i'd branch out of the roguelike genre
