Painting an Annihilape mug for a friend of mine

I decided to paint a mug (or other ceramic dishware) for all my friends Christmas gifts this year. Starting early because this will likely take a while. This one's for a childhood friend of mine. Their favorite Pokémon is Annihilape. I've chosen to do the pose from the 092/182 Destined Rivals card because it looked the coolest in my opinion :D
Included pics of the process - the sketch, the painting, and then after they fired it for me. It took a long time but I like how it turned out. Hope they like it when I finally gift it to them :)

My husband mentioned in passing "maybe we could go to a winery". His birthday is early June, so maybe this could be his birthday gift. The.problem is I don't know the first thing about wines, or what going to a winery would entail, so I'd appreciate some insight on where to start and maybe your experiences of local wineries. If you have any recommendations or suggestions, that may be helpful as well.

I don't know if it helps but I know he likes reds that aren't sweet. I believe they're Cabernet Sauvignons.

Would anyone be interested in some ceramic painting at The Clay Cottage?
No age/gender requirements or anything, just a way to meet new people, and a bit of light chatter while working on something creative.
Please DM me if you're interested so I can select a table large enough to account for the entire group.

Thursday 5–9 p.m
Saturday 11 a.m.–6 p.m*

  • I haven't nailed down a specific time range for our meet up on Saturday yet.

I just saw this online and my immediate thought was LDR gift. My husband and I did 7 years of long distance back when we were dating. We used to play pokemon games all the time and discuss strategies and teams for hours. I can't begin to explain how funny and perfect it would have been to send one of these plushes to him when we were apart. Extra points if you spray it with your perfume/cologne.

The idea for this illustration was too adorable to turn down, especially since it’s inspired by such a wonderful film. That said, I’m a bit scared of heights, so I can’t imagine actually sitting up on a tree that high myself 😅. How bout you?

You probably don't care about this, but it was such a big thing for me. While working on this piece, my Cintiq 21UX, which I’d used for over 16 years, suddenly died. With my work contract ending soon and this illustration's deadline coming up, replacing it wasn’t really a financially viable option. I shared the situation on FB and hoped for some advice on how to repair my CIntiq. All my typical solutions weren't working, and my online searches weren't proving helpful. I was 98% sure it was dead.

Instead, people started reaching out and offering their old Cintiqs from storage. It completely caught me off guard. I won't lie, I was super emotional from it. It made me realize how much of a community I had built over the years in my animation career without even noticing. I’m incredibly grateful.

I ended up taking my old 3D teacher up on his offer of his old DTZ-2000, which was collecting dust and eating up space in his office. It'ss what I used to finish this illustration. It’s actually older than my original Cintiq, so I’m not sure how much longer it’ll last. I’m happy to keep using it as long as I can. After that, I’ll switch to the Cintiq 22HD that the director from my recent project offered. Others also offered pens and tablets, which I may take them up on later, but for now, I like the idea of using up tech until they can't go any further.

It feels fitting that I was working on an illustration inspired by a film that celebrates small acts of kindness creating lasting bonds, while experiencing that in real life.
