I think I've figured out how to hem now

OK so basically for both non stretchy and stretchy fabrics, you use the same technique but with different stitches

Like for sturdier fabric you fold it and ensure the raw edge is inside BUT you use a straight stitch

And then for stretchy fabric, you do the same but use zizag

Dk why I was complicating the process but yup think I figured it out.. right?

Last post

Ok so Ive been procrastinating making the cuffs bc I'm worried I will mess it up and people have given me tips in a previous post but I just want to make sure so I can do it tmr without second guessing

So first I would Iron the inside out fabric so it's nice and flat, then I would create a cuff by ensuring the raw edge is inside it and then sew a zizag/stretch stitch with backstitches (since this is a stretchy fabric) and then that's it?

Someone did say I should first do a stretch stitch/zizag on the raw edge and then do the cuffs but idk I mean since the raw edge will be inside the cuffs anyway, I feel like that would be kinda unnecessary?

And ik some people use overlock/serger but I don't have that.

Anyway idk that's the plan, is the plan okay?

Does this look okay?

OK so I hand sewed some buttons, I was planning on using a sewing machine but then it got jammed and I got annoyed so tried hand sewing and ik it doesn't look the best but I'm just worried its going to fall apart 😭😭

Now ik the thread is all over the place and they should just be in the button holes but idk what I was thinking (I started off with the red one and I didn't want to start again so did the same thing with all of em 💀)

Why is my hem not secure??

OK so I did this again and it's the same thing, it stays secure towards the middle and end but towards the front, it doesn't and I'm not sure what to do

In the manual it says smth ab folding it twice but ughhhhh it's confusing

And also I feel like it might be coz I'm placing the needle in the wrong place but idk coz it does seem pretty secure when I pull it towards the end and middle area

Ive been placing the needle close to the raw edge in hopes that it will catch on the fabric but clearly that's wrong and I'm not sure how far apart I should place it before it's too much. I don't want to keep doing this coz that's just wasting thread and I really need to figure this out coz Im trying to alter something that has this exact fabric

Hemming question

I'm confused, I've been seeing people use a striaght stitch to do the hem? Where the fold the edge of the fabric twice so the raw edge is inside the two folds?

But what ab zigzag stitches? Mine has one specifically for hems so now I'm confused

And plus I've been seeing zigzag ones inside t-shirts

Ps - I'm trying to practice how to hem and now I'm confused how to do that since all the vids that I've seen use the folded twice method, I haven't even started practicing coz I'm confused

Curve struggle

OK so I've been trying to practice sewing curves and as you can see, I haven't been doing well

Ik that ur supposed to pivot the fabric gently during the curves but I can never seem to do it, I just don't get how people do it when the presser foot keeps the fabric in place so when I try it doesn't exactly move.

And Sometimes when I do somehow move it, it just goes past the fabric but that's obviously my fault, maybe I'm going too fast

Im gonna keep trying tmr but yeah this is what its been looking like

In hindsight I feel like the light blue and the beige doesn't look too bad but I cant seem to replicate it again

Is this an okay way to sew curves?

OK so basically I use the handwheel to keep the needle in the fabric whilst moving the presser foot into a position that matches the curved line drawn and repeat

Idk if I'm doing it right tho

Foot pedel problem

OK so I've noticed my stitches looking wonkier and wonkier as time have passed and I think it's coz of how I'm using the foot pedel

So at the start I would press it using my toes and the ball of my feet, the other end of my foot would do nothing and the stitches were in line with the drawn line

But gradually I began to overthink it ig and now I'm worried I'm doing it all wrong and that I need to engage all my feet? Idk but that wouldn't make sense since most people's feet are bigger than the pedel itself anyway so I must have been right all along... right?

Idk I guess I need some reassurance 😭😭

Does this look okay?

I'm practicing straight stitches and reverse/back stitches using a sewing machine

I do wanna make shorts and take the Inseams of my tops so I think my plan is to first learn how to do the basics like learning straight stitches, back stitches, curves, how to hem using zigzag and folded hem AND finally learn to sew two fabrics together.

I feel they should cover pretty much everything? Idk, if there's smth missing then let me know pls

But yeah ig what I'm asking is, is my plan good? Do I need to add anything else AND do the stitches look good?

Thoughts on this?

Okay so I always told myself that shorts would be my first project and so this is it, I do want to make this low rise hence the clips at the top and added buttons since the shorts are kinda boring on its own and I do kinda like it but idk

Guess I need some reassurance
