Relationships with property valuers

I run a small accounting firm in regional NSW and I’m getting lots of questions from clients on valuations with the CGT changes coming in next year.

I have a local bloke who has typically done valuations but he’s told me he’s nearly at capacity.

How is everyone else going to be handling this? A company called me the other day who uses an AI tool for valuations and then has a valuer tick them off. I think this what I’m going to start referring customers too, so long as the quality is there as I just don’t see how I’m going to be able to keep up with demand.

Keen to hear everyone else’s thoughts.

Bill splitting and management

How is everyone managing paying their bills and also splitting them if they share with others?

I have an insanely annoying housemate who literally never remembers to transfer me and I need to make things easier for myself.

Will this affect my credit if I’m late on bills????

What does everyone use to manage this (which hopefully will remind him so I don’t need to chase him thank you!

(B2B EdTech) constrained sales team blocking product growth

We sell a core offering worth a considerable amount to the sales team and a range of smaller, modular ‘upsell’ type products.

The issue I’m finding is that sales are unmotivated/less willing to sell this because It takes the same amount of time really to demo these smaller products as it does some of our larger ones but you get less commission.

We can’t stagnate on growth and our MD has put a lot of pressure on Product Marketing to strategise how we overcome this. It’s a fair complaint from sales I feel, but we can’t not sell smaller modules for that reason (we know customers who have more of our modular options are stickier and have higher LTV).

Some things we’ve considered are:
- Hiring some ‘modular only’ sales people or CSMs (who focus on added modules specifically can collab with sales managers / lead generate if conversations about the bigger sales come up
- Regularly running webinar demos that then act as lead gen for the sales team
- ‘Bundling’ these modules into the bigger product sales as a free trial so people can test it that way and make the decision whether or not to continue.

Has anyone else experienced something similar? Any suggestions for how we can not create additional work for AMs but continue to drive growth in these areas?

What parenting style is this? What does the evidence say?

My brother and I grew up with parents who mostly expected us to fit into whatever they were doing, rather than making everything revolve around entertaining us.

A lot of weekends were spent helping renovate the house, running errands with Mum or Dad, or going to one of their friends places for a BBQ or gathering. We spent heaps of time together as a family, but it wasn’t really doing “kid activities.”

The things we did together were generally things my parents enjoyed too. Swimming, played tennis/ cricket, went for walks, etc. Even the music in the house was mostly adult music (ABBA, Elton John, Neil Young, Bee Gees…)

There was also a big emphasis on independent play. I remember being bored quite a lot, but I think that was actually really good for me. It meant I learnt to entertain myself, use my imagination and figure things out on my own. We also had lots of conversations around the dinner table where we were encouraged to question things, think critically, and even change our minds if someone made a better argument.

I first realised our family wasn’t the norm when friends came over. Friends would often ask what my parents had planned or ask to take us somewhere where my parents would basically wait around for us to do an activity. At the time I never felt like I was missing out. It was probably only as a teenager, when fitting in became more important, that I cared a bit more about doing what my friends expected.

Overall tho, I honestly think I had a fantastic childhood. My brother and I are both quite well rounded, relatively successful and have a great relationship with our parents, and I wouldn’t change much about how we were raised.

My partner and I are hoping to have kids in the next few years, and have been thinking about how we want to raise kids. it’s made me wonder if this parenting style has a name. It doesn’t seem to be what I see online (especially from parenting influencers), and most people I know either weren’t raised this way or don’t parent this way.

Someone once told me it felt like a very European way of raising kids and it might be called that. My parents travelled a lot before having us and were older parents, so maybe that influenced things.

So I guess my questions are:

  1. Does this parenting style have a name?
  2. What does the evidence say about this style? What are the implications for the child and the parents?

CGT changes…where to go from here?

Fellow property investors! What are we doing about the new CGT changes coming in?

As it’s more based on a valuation framework, I’m thinking I need to get a good valuer on board but where to start??

Is anyone else currently using a valuer? How are you feeling about the change?

Big CGT changes…how to respond?

With the new CGT discount being scrapped and the valuation formula coming into play - how is everyone approaching this?

I’m an investor with a few properties.

  1. How is everyone finding valuers? Especially valuers who will help support investors during this time.

  2. With the new changes coming into effect I’m willing to spend a bit more on a good valuer. Anyone the same?

  3. How are fellow investors feeling overall?

Sydney based - for context. With properties across NSW.

(B2B EdTech SaaS UK) New to Product Marketing…out of my depth

I work for a small but mighty company in the B2B EdTech space in the UK. The company we’re hiring for their first Product Marketing Manager role and I applied and got the job!

I’m so excited, I worked hard to get here and it’s a dream come true. BUT I have no formal qualifications in this area (I do have experience as a marketing all rounder and in CX Strategy).

  1. Where do I start? Are there any great resources you highly recommend, especially for my industry (B2B EdTech SaaS).

  2. Does anyone have any personal advice, watch outs or things they wish they knew when they started?

Dating apps that aren’t geared to young people?

Have found myself single in my early 60s and not ready to give up on love yet.

All the dating apps I can see are very much geared to young people. Are there any genuinely good ones out there?

Going to Europe for care vs NHS

I’ve had extremely heavy menstrual bleeding every day for a year.

The NHS first misdiagnosed me with something benign and when I pushed back to say my symptoms weren’t presenting as this benign condition I was essentially told to ‘relax and go away’. After I begged multiple times for another internal assessment, they’ve figured out that it definitely cannot be that.

Finally I have a referal for an ultrasound and specialist appointment but that’s potentially another six months away and I don’t think I can wait that long.

I’m wondering if anyone has popped over to Europe or something and had specialist care there to get around the NHS waiting times.

Going to Europe for care instead of NHS

I’ve had extremely heavy menstrual bleeding for almost a year now. First the NHS misdiagnosed me with something benign and told me it was nothing to worry about it and when it got worse they admitted it couldn’t be that benign option and have now referred me for an ultrasound and specialist appointment.

However, I’ve been told it could take months to see someone.

I’m really worried about the symptoms. Has anyone ever popped over to Europe to see a doctor rather than waiting for the NHS?

Dentist/orthodontist recommendation

A wire has come loose from my permanent retainer and I need to have it repaired! Does anyone have any recommendations for a good dentist or orthodontist I could see?

I actually tried to have it repaired at one dentist and 4 weeks later it came loose again 😭

A warning to others: Princess issued us $2,500 in compensation, then refused to honour it when their own admin errors made it unusable

My partner and I are Platinum members and have sailed exclusively with Princess for years. We genuinely love this cruise line (we actually met on a Princess cruise nearly a decade ago) so this post is coming from a place of real disappointment, I'm not just looking to have a go.

Last year we did a 47-day sailing - our biggest (and most expensive) yet. For the entire voyage, a fault in the ship's communications system caused a CONSTANT loud buzzing noise, 24 hours a day. Every hour of every day for 47 days. Literally nightmare fuel. We couldn't sleep, couldn't relax in our cabin, and were temporarily moved to another stateroom when one freed up before being told to move back and live with it for the rest of the cruise.

The onboard team were pretty useless but acknowledged the fault in writing and apologies for how extreme it was and for the length of time it took to get resolved. We were told Customer Relations would look at further compensation once we disembarked.

After a long, drawn-out process we ended up with two credits: $1,500 issued onboard and a further $1,000 goodwill credit from Customer Relations. We accepted and thought it was done.

Then almost a year later, we went to book another cruise.

The $1,500 had been applied against the wrong date by Princess and had already expired (the applied it from 2024 when the cruise was in 2025). They acknowledged this was their error and agreed to reinstate it but never did. And the $1,000 which issued as part of the exact same complaint resolution has now expired while we tried to sort out the $1500 and Princess is now refusing to reinstate it. Its been months of me trying to reach them to get the compensation we are entitled to and some of the worst customer experience I've ever had. We either get radio silence or 'too bad, too sad'

I've tried the UK support (where i live, who can't help as it was booked through the US, my travel agent (also getting no response) and US support (the worst customer service i've ever had). I also escalated to executive level and heard (emails i found in this thread - thanks!) and heardnothing back in nearly two weeks.

For anyone in a similar situation, I'm currently pursuing a chargeback through my card provider and filing complaints with the FMC and BBB. Does anyone have any other suggestions? I might try asking for a Princess Vacation Planner to try and help.

Has anyone here dealt with Princess refusing to reinstate credits that expired due to their own errors? Curious whether others have got anywhere with this...I just want to be done with this situation so i can never cruise on Princess again.

tl;dr: Princess acknowledged a serious onboard fault, issued compensation, let it expire through their own mistakes, and is now refusing to fix it.

Cheapest dentist in bath (that’s still good)

Have an issue I need to get seen and only just moved to the area.

Dentistry in this country is wildly expensive. What’s the cheapest dentist that isn’t outrageously expensive?

Bells in Bath

I recently noticed the bells in bath in the city centre seem to go constantly (for hours at a time), and in the evenings sometimes it goes basically every 15mins until past midnight.

No complaints - beautiful sound - but I’ve never experienced such persistent bells 😅 is this a time of year thing? Or is it celebrating a special occasion?

Doesn’t even seem to be the Cathedral which I thought it most likely to be.
