These are my tiny clamshell writerdecks. Believe it or not, I have used them all to write and I still do it today. Different feelings, different sizes, different ways to type and to send whatever you wrote in them.

From top to bottom, left to right:

Sometimes a smaller keyboard makes the trick. It forces a slower typing speed and it is good for some type of texts that requiere more concentration.

Anyway, Pomera DM100 is my favorite because it is the most balanced and practical one: instant boot, decent keyboard, compact enough, clear screen, nice editor, and infinite battery as long as you change the 2xAA batteries (25-30 hours). Can do wireless transfer with Bluetooth FTP or WiFi using a Toshiba Flashair; wired transfer using a USB cable or just moving an SD card.

I love the clamshell form factor. Here is a selection of the smallest ones, from palmtops to subnotebooks.

Can you spot and identify the intruder? One of them is not a general purpose computer.

Creatividad, estilo, corrección son temas muy importantes. Pero sólo tienen sentido cuando uno ha adquirido primero el hábito de escribir de forma habitual.

Para ayudar a adquirir el hábito comparto este libro que no es más que un decálogo que recoge las mejores técnicas para adquirir de forma gradual la costumbre de escribir. Por eso creo que puede ser una buena ayuda para alguien que quiera empezar a escribir o, si ya lo hace, para hacerlo con mayor regularidad.

Como muy bien dice el prólogo del libro: "Si quieres dedicarte a escribir, empieza a hacerlo hoy mismo. No hay otra forma de conseguirlo, y hoy es un día tan bueno como otro cualquiera para empezar. De hecho, es muchísimo mejor que empieces hoy a que lo dejes para mañana".

Comparto una pequeña reflexión mecanografiada sobre por qué me cuesta tanto sentarme a escribir. No sé si le pasa a más gente, pero imagino que sí. ¿Comentarios?

I was finally able to get the Pilot Custom Heritage 912 with FA / falcon nib (size 10) for a decent price. It's a very interesting fountain pen that provides a decent amount of flex and lots of line variation.

It's very wet and at it's more of an F than an EF line. Not the best for crosshatching fine details. But it's a lot of fun to sketch or write with it. It's a playful fountain pen and using it is a pleasure.

I also got an ebonite feed, but so far railroading hasn't been a problem with the stock plastic feed. I'm using a Iroshizuku ink that is also very wet: kiri-same, now discontinued. Paper is Rhodia / Claire Fontaine.

Now it's time to reconsider if a 743 with a 15 size FA nib would be a better option. Stiffer and thus with a thinner line.

I've been offered an Astrohaus Freewrite Traveler for 300 EUR plus shipment (within the EU). I guess that it's a fair price, but it's still a lot of money for what you get.

I already own an Astrohaus Freewrite Alpha (not backlighted) and I don't use it very often. I also have a Neo, a Neo 2, a Pomera DM100 and a BYOK, besides other gadgets, such as eInk Android devices that I pair to Bluetooth keyboards, and old iPad mini with keyboard cover, palmtops (Casio Cassiopeia, HP 95LX, HP 200LX, Atari Portfolio).

I keep buying them and I love them all, but the fact remains that I don't use any of them that much besides the Pomera DM100.

I know that I should be writing instead of searching for the holy grail of the writerdecks, but you of all people know the drill.

Please, talk me out of it.

Pros:

• Clamshell design
• eInk display
• Different keyboard layouts available (including Spanish)
• Wireless sync using Postbox

Cons:

• Astrohaus customer service
• eInk lag (even after the Sailfish firmware update?)
• Device prone to battery swelling and key locks
• No dedicated cursor keys (editing is a PITA, though I know that this is considered to be a "feature")
• Non mechanical keyboard (but for me the Pomera and the Neo are fine, therefore this shouldn't be a problem)
• For less than that I can get a Pomera DM250 from Japan
