He likes his “opposites attract” trope to be on the nose

From what we saw in the show only I don’t care or acknowledge the comics

Suiko vs mizuki

Maki gets called a failure by Geto and mai respectively.

However mai says why and it’s because maki doesn’t have cursed energy.

Nobara asks if it’s true and maki confirms.

With yuta it’s maki who wants to talk to yuta about why she was called a failure, she asks him if he knows what the bare minimum requirements to be a sorcerer are.

Then she goes on a rant of how much it sucked for her in the zenin clan and how she can’t imbue CE into her tools or see curses without her glasses.

With nobara she only tells her the bare minimum just about the mechanics.

When nobara asks her why she became a sorcerer she doesn’t even let her finish the question and says it’s to piss off people

With yuta she lets him ask the question without interrupting and says because she has a bad personality

Nobara says she respects maki and she gives her a pretty indifferent response.

Yuta openly voices his admiration for her which leaves maki flustered and blushing.

Both scenes served as expositions about maki’s power or lack there of, but one was mechanical, while the other much more personal and intimate.
