Unexpected $450M Settlement: EPA v Chemours for PFAS Pollution

Unfortunately, not something to get excited about. Our attorney general still has pending litigation and hopefully this does not interfere.

They will still manufacture PFAS. They are still polluting PFAS waste. This looks like more theater.
Here's the official announcement from EPA https://www.epa.gov/enforcement/chemours-settlement-summary-june-2026

EPA plans to reverse and delay their regulations on Forever Chemicals

The science is clear that PFAS are extremely toxic, bioaccumulate in our bodies and have contaminated the entire planet and yet the agency is once again acting to protect polluters.

More about this in our upcoming documentary, GENX.

Full announcement on their website including a public comment session on July 7th.

300+ People gathered in Wilmington to protest these proposed regulations.

These new rules proposed by the Environmental Management Commission (EMC) would regulate 3 different PFAS and 1,4-Dioxane but critics point out there are no enforcement mechanisms making these hollow regulations. If the EMC passes these rules unchallenged, it only supports polluters making our water more dangerous. This is unacceptable.

More info about the GENX documentary I have spent 9 years working on all about the PFAS crisis.

Public comments are still accepted via email with subject line "PFAS Minimization" to publiccomments@deq.nc.gov

DEAR NORTH CAROLINA there are 6 important hearings for our drinking water this month.

I went to Raleigh and captured some of the comments on camera to share with everyone.

Longer video of the hearing.

We need people to show up and reject these rules proposed by the Environmental Management Commission. If the EMC passes these rules unchallenged, it only supports polluters making our water more dangerous. Please, come out and make your voice heard. This is unacceptable.

FINAL hearings

Where: Wilmington City Hall at Skyline Center, 1st Floor Conference Center, 929 North Front St., Wilmington, 28401

Jamestown (Dioxane)
When: 6 p.m., May 12, 2026 | Sign-in at 5

They did something super weird which is they made half of these hearings about PFAS and half about 1,4-Dioxane. The Southern Environmental Law Center encourages starting your statement with the following language: “I request that this comment be included in the public record for both the 1,4-dioxane and the PFAS monitoring and minimization rules.”, then they should accept your comments on both.

YOU CAN ALSO send comments via email through June 15th!
