I don’t know about other females on the group but the language used and attitude carried by boys/men here makes me think of quitting this group every other day. Half the posts are about men complaining about how difficult it is to find dates in Bihar. It’s quite obvious why, I can draft a detailed thesis just character analysing 😂
I have sent request to my supervisor a couple of times but he doesn’t accept my invite. He is very active and engages with all kinds of posts. I thought one of the ways a mentor supports is by sharing their network. At this point, it feels like a prestige program that I will have to earn by publishing a dozen paper.
I planned to start planning for my transition from PhD to post-doc during the last six months of my phd. This time has turned out to be most stresssful with submission deadlines and putting all my energy into writing.
How do you decide if you want a post-doc or a job? How do you go about both? For job do you look at postings on LinkedIn or you write directly to institutions that aligns with your work. For post docs, do you send emails to profs or write proposals and then reach out to profs.
My current prof is not clearly communicating if he is happy to collaborate to draft a proposal and raise funds for post docs.

I have received multiple emails from people affiliated with UBC, different purposes and portfolios requesting to participate in surveys and get a chance of winning a lucky draw cash price ranging from 10$ to 30$ and even 50$. It’s been five years and never have I ever won. I feel cheated!!

Every other day, I come across posts in this group that are filled with hate, criticism, and insults directed at others. The attitude and language used are often disappointing.
I am certain that our society also has plenty of goodness, humanity, and empathy. If you have a story that reflects these values, I would love to hear it. I am restarting and not giving up! I have a plan for tomorrow. I am going to only work for an hour in the morning; get out of the house for an hour in the afternoon, and read for an hour in the evening. Not do anything for rest of the day! I can break my procrastinating habit
I think I am becoming cynical. think people who are focused on self-care are just overwhelmed and distracted from the global state of affairs. Every focus on career goals, improve quality of life and vision a life which is deeply rooted in consumerist lifestyle and capitalist markets forces individuals to become selfish, self centred and fight to prove themsleves competent in the employment market. Everything overwhelmed me and life feels pointles. I have no desire for anything in life and so no motivation to work hard. Every system feels politically driven and people corrupt and performativ. how do I find motivation to live life

how do you differentiate between if you are stuck in a bad habit and need more actionable effort or it’s circumstancial depression and should seek help

I am currently on extended study permit that ends on 1st December and I am hoping to complete only by mid or end December if everything goes well. I am not sure if I should be applying for a couple of months more of study permit extension or directly apply for work permit. What all should I add to the letter of explanations during the application.
I will need to be around until end Jan to wrap up things at Uni. Look for jobs

I am on study permit extended visa. when I applied I was hoping to graduate in November but now likely I will be able to meet the December End Program (my study permit ends in Nov) and attend the graduation ceremony only in May.
I am not sure if I should be applying for another study permit extension or work permit visa. i am stuck in the middle

I met this guy who is 38-39 through a dating app few months ago in Delhi. He was a hundred percent green flag, empathetic, feminist, environmentally conscious, social activist, politically aware and very articulate. we had good time and exchanged intimate moments. when I expressed my emotions and wanted to take it to next level he withdrew. I feel emotionally manipulated and he just said that our values don’t align. He is always apologizing, at the same time wanting to hold me but instantly dismisses my emotions when I question his feelings. we have a strong connection and i am not ready to let go. Anyone with similar experiences how did you handle the situation?
are the drones flying in campus seek or hold permits? don’t Canada/BC/Vancouver have regulations for this? how do they just hover around, taking pictures without my consent. I don’t want to be recorded
