How do you cope with the pain?

Looking for advice from others who have been through this

I’ve been feeling pretty depressed because of ongoing neck pain during my recovery from a VP shunt surgery. I’m around 3 months into recovery and the neck pain is really starting to get to me mentally.

For anyone who has been through something similar:

- How did you cope with the pain and frustration?

- How long did it take before you started feeling more like yourself?

- Is there anything that helped you mentally or physically during recovery?

I’d really appreciate hearing from people who have experienced something similar. I’m just looking for some encouragement and practical advice from people who understand what this is like.

Can you use anti-inflammatory cream?

Hi everyone, I had VP shunt surgery about 2 months ago. I’m wondering if it’s safe to use an anti-inflammatory cream/gel for muscle or joint pain now that it’s been 2 months since surgery?

Has anyone else been in a similar situation, or does anyone know if there are any precautions I should be aware of? I’ll also check with my doctor/pharmacist to make sure it’s safe for me.

Thanks!

How did you cope mentally when you didn't have enough money to pay your bills?

I'm not really looking for budgeting advice. I'm more interested in how you got through the mental side of financial stress.

A little bit of background: I'm currently recovering from brain surgery and haven't been able to work. This week I'll receive my last pay because I've used up all of my sick leave and annual leave. I'm meeting with WINZ next week to see what support I can get, but in the meantime I'm finding it hard not to worry about how I'm going to pay my bills.

If you've been through something similar, what helped you cope mentally? How did you deal with the anxiety and uncertainty while waiting for things to improve?

I'd really appreciate hearing from people who have been in this position and made it through.

How do you stay happy when you're struggling financially?

Lately, money has been really tight, and I find myself worrying about bills and the future more than I'd like. I'm doing what I can to budget and keep working, but it's still mentally draining.

I'm curious how others stay positive during difficult financial seasons. What helped you feel happy or at least find some peace when money was a constant source of stress?

I'm looking for practical advice, mindset shifts, habits, or personal experiences that genuinely made a difference.

Thanks in advance—I appreciate any wisdom you can share.

Dads who work full-time — how do you help carry the mental load at home?

Hey dads,

I’m a new dad and I’ve been thinking ahead about when my son gets older and life gets busier.

I work, and I’m wondering how other dads balance:

Working full-time

Daycare drop-offs/pick-ups

Getting dinner sorted

Cleaning and chores

Finding time to shower, sleep, and recover

Still being present for your wife and child

One thing I’m especially thinking about is my wife’s mental load. I don’t want her to feel like she’s the “manager” of the household while I just help when I’m asked.

For dads who are doing this well:

What responsibilities do you fully own without needing reminders?

How do you organise family life?

What small things made a big difference for your wife?

What do you wish you started doing earlier?

I want to be the kind of dad and husband who is involved, not just someone who provides financially.

Would appreciate advice from experienced dads.

I feel useless

I’m a dad to a 1-year-old son and lately I’ve been feeling pretty useless.

One of the biggest things I struggle with is my memory. I forget things easily, I struggle to remember steps, and it makes simple tasks feel way harder than they should be.

The part that really gets to me is cooking for my son. I want to be the kind of dad who can prepare healthy meals for him, but I find cooking overwhelming. I forget what I’m doing, I struggle with recipes, and sometimes I end up relying on baby food pouches because it’s something I know he will eat.

I feel guilty because I worry that I’m taking the easy way out or that I’m not being the dad my son deserves. I love him more than anything, but it’s hard not to feel like I’m failing when I can’t even do something that seems so basic.

Has anyone else struggled with things like this? Especially dads who have memory issues, ADHD, or just find everyday tasks harder than they look? How did you learn to make things easier and build confidence?

Feeling stuck living paycheque to paycheque and wanting to get ahead

I’m feeling pretty frustrated at the moment. I work hard and earn enough to cover my bills, but once everything is paid there’s basically nothing left. I want to be able to save money, build some security, and not feel stressed every time a bill is coming up.

It feels like I’m just surviving instead of getting ahead. I’m trying to be responsible with money, but it’s hard when your income only seems to cover the necessities.

For those who have been in a similar situation, what helped you turn things around? Did you focus on cutting expenses, finding ways to earn more, changing jobs, or something else?

Any advice or encouragement would be appreciated.

Sole income earner, no savings, recovering from brain surgery – feeling overwhelmed

Hi everyone,I''m looking for some advice because things are starting to feel really stressful.

I'm the sole income earner for my family, and we don't have any savings to fall back on. I'm currently recovering from brain surgery, so I'm not sure how long I'll continue to receive pay before it stops.

We're already worried about keeping up with our bills, and our car is going to need maintenance soon, which we rely on to get around. Right now it feels like everything is piling up at once.

Has anyone been in a similar situation? Are there any financial assistance options, budgeting tips, or other ideas that helped you get through a time like this?

Any advice or encouragement would be really appreciated. Thank you.

Hardcover vs Leather ESV Study Bible – Did I make the right choice?

I recently bought the ESV Study Bible in hardcover and it just arrived. It's a fantastic Bible and I'm grateful to have it, but now I'm having second thoughts.

Part of me wishes I had spent the extra money and bought the leather edition instead. The hardcover seems more durable and was the more economical choice, but the leather edition looks more comfortable to hold and use.

For those of you who own the ESV Study Bible, do you think the hardcover was the wiser purchase, or is the leather edition worth the extra cost? Have any of you experienced buyer's remorse after choosing one binding over another?

I'm trying to decide whether I should just enjoy the hardcover I have or start saving up for the leather version in the future.

On my last warning at work because of memory problems and brain fog — advice?

I’m on my last warning at work and honestly I’m scared.

I struggle badly with brain fog and memory problems. When I was born I had bleeding on the brain and I’ve had 3 other brain surgeries in my life. Sometimes I genuinely forget instructions or lose track of things even when I’m trying hard.

I’m not lazy and I’m not trying to not care. I actually do care a lot, which is why this is affecting me mentally.

I’m looking for advice from people who deal with memory issues, ADHD, brain fog, or neurological problems while working full time.

How do you manage remembering tasks and handling pressure at work when your brain feels unreliable sometimes?

What helped you keep your job or improve?
