Preschool

What age is it best to start kiddos?

I have a school nearby, like super nearby, that has programs starting at 15mo. But I would prefer to start my kid at preschool age. But would delaying his start delay his overall development in the Montessori school system? My county also pays for preschool, so that would take care of at least a year, if not two, of expensive schooling.

Would it be weird to send my kids nanny with him? I don’t really feel comfortable sending my kid out when he can’t advocate for himself and you just never know. I used to work in public schools as a therapist and they would always love a free extra pair of hands, but not sure if that applies to private/Montessori schools.

I love cosleeping

I really love cosleeping.

My babe was stirring around 2am, so I went to use the restroom.

When I got back to the floor bed, I turned on the egg lamp to grab some pajama bottoms as it was colder than when we went to bed. When I turned it on, I looked over and saw my kiddo with eyes wide open. Laying in bed, holding his hands—no crying or fussing. When he saw me, he started rolling side to side, rocking himself back to sleep.

I put the pajama bottoms on my kiddo and got back into bed, C position. My kiddo scooted into me, lifted his legs onto mine, turned his head for boob, and put his arms in his sleeping position—one arm up and the other down.

He ate for five minutes and knocked out. He’s now suckling in his sleep.

It’s 3am now and I can’t get over how adorable the whole interaction was.

Third hand marijuana smoke

Hello!

Does anyone know how to mitigate any potential third hand marijuana smoke from clothes and items?
She’s doing enzymatic detergent washes of her clothes, but I read oils are hard to remove from clothes. Not sure if she needs to do it more than a few times for a while or if just a few washes would be fine.

My sister will be helping take care of the kiddo and stopped smoking weeks back in preparation.

We just want to mitigate any potential exposure as much as we can before she moves in.

Thank you!

Edit; asked three different subs and can conclude yall were the best to ask. Ty!! 🧚

Third hand smoke

Nanny will be my little sister, who is moving in.

She and boyfriend were heavy weed smokers, but have stopped for several weeks due to the upcoming move.

She’s wiped down all her stuff and will be washing all clothes several times with enzymatic detergent.

We’ll still have her showering before starting day with baby and making sure hair is kept away

Is this enough to remove potential third hand smoke? Will edibles still affect their skin and hair?

I love and trust my sister, but obviously I’m a little more than a little anxious about toxins. But I also don’t trust anyone besides close family to take care of the kiddo, until he can at least communicate with us if he’s being mistreated.

Edit: I trust my sister completely. I’m anxious about leftover toxins from third hand smoke—not my sister. I love her and she would never do anything to endanger the baby. I wouldn’t say she’s a heavy drug user, but she did smoke a lot because she’s a young adult and that’s what a lot of kids do these days. She stopped smoking immediately once being a nanny for our kid was brought up. A heavy drug user implies addiction—she was never addicted. My sister knows I’m an anxious person and she goes above and beyond with trying to keep baby safe, even if we both know it’s more to help my paranoid addled brain than anything.

Short of learning Russian

What’s the most accurate translation of Tolstoy? I’ve read a dozen articles and opinions, but still unsure what translations to go with.

I want the ones that are most faithful to his voice.

Baby neck

Baby is 11-12w old. When in his carriers, he doesn’t want to put his neck down and relax. He’s the same during tummy time (and yes he’s been to PT).

Anything I can do to help him relax his neck?

Missing chapter

I remember someone posting about a missing chapter. Does anyone remember what chapter in which book?

Thinking of just printing it out and stuffing it in the book. I don’t think they’ve fixed it yet in the official novels.

Nurse napping

9 week old has been nurse napping.

I don’t mind it, but am concerned I am extending his naps beyond what they’d normally be. Without nursing, he’ll wake up 20 min - 1hr, but still be sleepy and request to nurse until he falls asleep.

With nursing, he’ll fall asleep, unlatch, wake up after 20min-1hr, nurse back to sleep and repeat. I have been cutting him off at the 2/3 hour mark, as I’m worried I’m keeping him asleep beyond what he’d wake up from.

These last few days, it seems he wants to sleep 3+hrs. I’m not sure if he’s in a growth spurt and if I should just let him sleep as long as he wants, helping him stay asleep via the nurse napping.

I’ve been concerned he sleeps too much in general, as he sleeps 12hr through the night regardless of day sleep. He does dream feeds at night.

So far, day sleep doesn’t really affect his night sleep. So far.

He’s also been gaining over an ounce a day. He doesn’t spit up much and he usually doesn’t have a firm belly, but I am a little concerned he might be over feeding. I was told you can’t overfeed a breast fed baby, but his Ped was concerned after he gained 20.5 oz in 13 days and he jumped up percentiles. He does breathe hard in general, but overall looks okay. He has the cutest double chin (which he’s had most of his 9weeks) and barely any rolls, so am only concerned due to the rapid weight gain and that’s because ped was concerned.

Nose bump

I just took baby to Dr and he has an appt next week so wanted to ask here first.

Baby has a little nose bump on the edge of his inner nostril. This morning it looks like there was a little bit of dried blood on it. I did try to suck up his mucus this morning since he sounded congested, but he wouldn’t let me.
