What happened at Boogaloo’s on 22nd and Valencia?

Walked by Boogaloo’s just now on my way to LatAm and every single window on the building is damaged or fully smashed out. No damage to neighboring businesses whatsoever. Seems targeted? LatAm folks say it happened last night but don’t know anything else. Anyone have any idea what the hell happened?

Grew up in Madison in the 90's/early-mid 00's, coming back for a vacation. Any restaurants, bars, etc that still feel like old Madison (or show new Madison holding its own)?

Madison was a huge part of my life and childhood but other than visiting for a couple of hours here and there I haven't spent significant time there since probably 2005 when I was transitioning to college. Formative years on the East Side off Sherman, grandma worked for Social Services in the old Sanatorium, mom spent a little too much time smoking weed in Peace Park to the point that dad got custody, silly memories of skinny dipping at Tenney Park Beach with my first girlfriend, etc etc.

Now I'm going on 40 and living way out in San Francisco (Mission) and for the first time in a very, very long time I am heading back to Madison for a real vacation and spend some time enjoying where I came from. The couple times I passed through in the 2010's things already seemed very different and I'm sure it's only progressed from there. Time passes, can't ever really go home again and all that, but I'm hoping there are at least a couple places left that remind me of the Madison I grew up with!

Looking for suggestions for restaurants, bars, or anything really that reminds me of the Madison I grew up with. Or, new stuff that makes it easier to digest how much things have changed! I hear State St is almost unrecognizable though I will have to walk it for old times sake. It seems like Willy St/Atwood area and Monroe still have some cool stuff going on? I tend to go more for cool holes-in-the-wall than fancy stuff, but open to any/all suggestions!

Guanajuato’s salsa. What’s the secret? Anyone have a good home knockoff?

I lived in Milwaukee for 15 years and GTO’s was always one of my favorite Mexican spots, if not the actual favorite.

I moved out to San Francisco for work during COVID and while there’s plenty of good Mexican out here there is NOTHING quite like Guanajuato’s amazing salsa. I still think about it all the time.

Does anyone know what their secret is or have a good home recipe version? The things I would do to be able to get some out here…

Follow up on Era 100s dropping audio: the order you group speakers in matters

Last week I made this post asking for help with my Era 100s dropping audio and otherwise being a pain in the ass. Started a whole thing with Sonos support and after a few days of troubleshooting and some time on the phone I have learned…

My Arc is the problem. 😐

Apparently because my Arc is the oldest device in the system, when I group speakers to play audio through my home, I need to start with one of the Era 100s and NOT THE ARC. I was told that the Arc’s older hardware and position near sources of interference (TV, game consoles, etc due to being a soundbar) cannot reliably support being the primary speaker in a grouped playback scenario. (To be clear my Arc is hardwired over Ethernet but that doesn’t matter per Sonos support.)

If I am only listening to audio on the Arc, I can just play to the Arc. But if I’m playing in any kind of other group, I need to play to one of my Era 100s and THEN add the Arc to the group.

Frankly this is annoying AF as the Arc is in my living room where I’m listening 90% of the time but so far the guidance seems to be legit as I have yet to experience the problems again.

I don’t know if an Arc Ultra would solve my issue due to newer hardware but it feels dumb to have to invest hundreds of dollars to maybe eliminate this annoyance.

So, problem seems solved, though I think this is where my investment in the Sonos ecosystem ends as who knows what the next very expensive product will be that requires a specific grouping order to function reliably! My girlfriend sure wishes I hadn’t spent the money on all this but here we are 😂

Better cut for my thin blond hair?

FYI: beard is current look/newest photo, beardless is older and just for reference!

Hi all, in need of advice as I think about changing up my hairstyle. I have been rocking some variation of the millennial side part with a looser sort of look since I was in college. Now that my hairline has pulled back a little bit and my hair is a bit thinner, I don’t feel like it’s working for me anymore. (FWIW I’ve been on minoxidil since shortly after the beardless photo was taken, can’t do finasteride because of side effects)

As a kid I was always forcibly given buzz cuts and I hated it, and also just as someone who grew up in the 90s I always feel like shaggier/messier cuts are cool, but I don’t really know how to square that with my hairline and hair type, or if I should even bother to try.

Will note that the men in my family don’t have balding problems but the widow’s peak is pretty consistent and I am not pretending it’s not there, just want a style that works given the situation.

Thankful for any thoughts or opinions y’all might have 🙏

Era 100s randomly play audio for 1-2 seconds then go silent despite showing active/playing in apps

Recently ditched a complicated 7.1 system with AVR and the whole nine yards to try a Sonos setup since I was tired of all the overhead, hard wiring, etc.

Have an Arc with Sub Mini in my living room, Era 100 in dining room, another Era 100 in bedroom. Router is a Netgear RS700 and not ISP garbage (I actually work for Netgear so am pretty well versed in network config). Arc is hardwired with Ethernet, everything else is on WiFi.

Since getting this system up and running I have faced a consistent problem with the Era 100s:

  • I will play something in the living room (main listening area) and then add either Era 100 to the group to listen through the whole house
  • Either one of the Era 100s will play audio for 1-2 seconds, then go silent
  • Despite being silent, the apps still show them as part of the group and playing
  • This happens both from the Sonos app and using AirPlay

Sometimes, this also manifests in trying to play audio directly to one of the Era 100s; for example, I'll want to put on a bedtime podcast in the bedroom, so I will try to AirPlay or use the Sonos app to play the podcast only to the bedroom speaker and it will do the same thing; play audio for 1-2 seconds then go silent, while my device will show the speaker as active and playing.

I have tried every possible configuration change I've seen suggested in various threads: setting static IPs on the router, separating SSIDs, manual 2.4ghz channel selection, disabling SonosNet, etc. But the problem just will not go away.

The only thing that seems to kind of work is a hard reset of the affected Era 100 when the problem occurs. Then it will work reliably for a day or two until the problem comes back.

Is anyone else experiencing this? The only thing I haven't tried is a full factory reset and reinstall of the whole system, which I have doubts about.

A Sonic Message to Millennial Moral Police

You fuckers don't understand what it was like to find them in the eighties and nineties.

Imagine walking thru a desert for years then stumbling upon a rock. Under the rock is a cool water spring. No one else knows it there. It's yours. You drink from it. It makes you glow. It relieves your pain. It stirs your imagination.

It's pathetic to see post internet Millennial Moral cop bootlickers re-evaluating high art ( well , high popular culture art haha) and recontextualizing it to fit inside your stupid Mark Zuckerberg nerd Puritan Meta shit glasses.

You motherfuckers have no respect for how trailblazing all these bands were, and how they were diametrically opposed to the mainstream of the time ( well excusing the major label dalliance)..

And you have the nerve to make some douche comment on the internet about some gossip column style ' he said she said' domestic voyeurism evaluating an entire important artists Canon thru the lens of some sexless saintly pearl clutching shit sucking dog fucking pea brain attitude you copy and pasted from Reddit.

You wanna keep your opinions to yourself around here. Get Thurstons name outta your mouth. I know he's a big dollop of candy ass wholesome bullshit but give the man the respect he deserves for the work he did.

You anaemic screen leeches couldn't hold a candle to what they did as a band yet you wanna sit in your stepdads study and throw popcorn at some motherfucker you never even knew.

Die you assholes.

Signed,

Respectful Art Fan and Consumer Who Doesn't Project My Stupid Bullshit Onto Artists and Gives Them the Respect They Deserve.

It's called 'Credit Where It's Due', you insipid McShitlickers. Go start a band and see how easy it is, loser fuck.

P.S

Go join a convent if you want to be some high fallutin' high school level mid brain National Enquirer cop lickin' shit for brains.
